No sign of Squamish teen one year later
Jodi Henrickson last seen alive after house party on Bowen Island

By Cassidy Olivier, The Province June 20, 2010 9:13 AM

It's been a year to the day since Henrickson, 17, was last seen by her ex-boyfriend, Gavin Arnott, along a stretch of Miller Road at 5:30 a.m. The couple had been at a house party, but went their separate ways after a fight.

Arnott claims he left her at an intersection along Miller Road and didn't look back. Henrickson hasn't been seen since, leaving her family to agonize quietly as the days stretched into weeks and the months into a year.

Christmas came and went without a word. Her 18th birthday passed quietly in February. Still no answers, still no hint as to where the popular Squamish teen, who was close to her family, might be.

Three weeks ago, she would have walked across the stage with her classmates and graduated from high school, a loss felt by friends and family who posted tearful comments on the Let's Find Jodi Henrickson Facebook page.

"As I and many others walk across that stage tonight we will be thinking of you," read one post. "Whether your here or not you to are a graduate of 2010. Congrats Jodi you made it."

This weekend will be a quiet affair, explained Henrickson's brother, Rob-James, and will likely be spent as a family at his parents' house in Squamish, the unanswered questions not far from everyone's minds.

The not knowing has been the hardest, he says.

"I think everybody would just like to have that closure; it just hangs over us," he said. "It's just like a sore [that] doesn't heal."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

'We need somebody to come forward'

By: ctvbc.ca
Date: Sunday Jun. 20, 2010 6:06 PM PT

One year after Squamish, B.C., teenager Jodi Henrickson disappeared, her family is pleading to anyone with information to come forward and help them find closure.

The agony of not knowing where Henrickson is, and whether or not she is alive, has taken a toll on her parents. They were too upset to speak on Sunday, the anniversary of their daughter's disappearance, but their 21-year-old son Rob spoke on their behalf.

"It's just really depressing for them," he said. "It definitely is different every time I come home. It's just weird not to have Jodi around."

Police initially treated Henrickson's disappearance as a missing person's case, but in March officials announced they had classified it as a homicide.

The family is still holding out hope that Henrickson could be alive, and they believe someone out there has information that they haven't shared with police. Mounties agree, saying there are some who have refused to cooperate with authorities.

"We need somebody to come forward with something," Rob said. "Right now we don't have any closure. Without any new information, this isn't going to go anywhere."

Jodi Henrickson: Family of teen missing a year still in shock

Teenager disappeared June 20, 2009, after leaving a house party on Bowen Island

By ANDREA WOO, Vancouver Sun June 20, 2010 8:02 PM

If things had been different, Squamish teenager Jodi Henrickson would have walked across the stage May 28 for her commencement ceremony.

The next day, she would have dressed up with the rest of Howe Sound secondary’s 200 Grade 12 students for her prom.

Henrickson, who would have turned 18 on Feb. 23, didn’t get to celebrate these milestones. On Sunday, her family instead marked the one-year anniversary of her disappearance.

I don't know how I've missed reading about Jodi's disappearance! Thanks to those who have posted recently. What a sad, sad story. I have vacationed on Bowen Island and it is tiny, tiny. Someone has to know something. Prayers for her family and friends.

I googled Gibsons, BC, and seems close to Bowen Island; however, I cannot find the other location mentioned in the article: "Gospel Rock". In another article it says it's is located northwest of Vancouver. Perhaps someone local could comment on this?

Thanks for posting that Hazel. I did see the same story by the RCMP a couple of days ago, but didn't want to post it yet before finding out more info.

Here was the first one:

2010-07-05 07:38 PDT

On 2010-07-02 a beigh t-shirt was caught in a fishing line off of Gospel Rock. The fishing line was pulled in and several bones fell out of the t-shirt into the water, one bone was caught and turned into the Sunshine Coast RCMP. Initial investigation reveals that the bone appears to be human. The investigation is ongoing to determine the probability of recovering the rest of the remains.

Here is an update from yesterday: (still not much new info)

Found human remains- Dive Team update
As of 2010-07-06 the Sunshine Coast RCMP investigation regarding the found human remains off of Gospel Rock, Gibsons is still ongoing. The RCMP Dive Team have been consulted along with various internal partners and it has been determined based on information obtained that it would be ineffective and impractical to attempt to locate the remains through the Dive Team. The RCMP is currently looking into other avenues of recovery.

I'll keep my eyes on it and post whatever else may come up.

Does anyone remember what Jodi was last seen wearing? Just asking because of the beige shirt they found with the bones.

 • #494
Nevermind, I found it. :(

<snip>
Jodi has not made any contact with friends or family which is out of character. When last seen she was wearing a black leather jacket, black long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

As part of the continuing investigation into the disappearance of Jodi Henrickson police officers from the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section will be co-ordinating a search of an area on Bowen Island, known locally as "Seven Hills" on Saturday July 17, 2010, beginning at 1000 hrs and continuing throughout the day. . A Bowen Island community group has offered to assist by providing volunteers from the local area, to participate in this more thorough evidentiary search, in a renewed community effort to aid in this investigation.

The search will be assisted by North Shore Search and Rescue who will be checking the more difficult terrain areas, and giving instruction to local volunteers.

It should be emphasized that investigators in this instance are searching for personal effects, and are hoping to narrow down the area of a possible crime scene. The area was previously searched by canine units in an attempt to locate Jodi, however this search will be looking for items that may have been left behind at the time of Jodi's disappearance. This search is being undertaken as part of the normal progression of a criminal investigation of this type, and has not been prompted by any new or breaking information.

No media conference is planned, however the local MRO Cpl RITCHIE will be available on Bowen Island.

It is so nice to see some action in this case!!! Any kind of search or action helps.
Justice for Jodi!! ♥♥

Police revisit search for Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson

By Cassidy Olivier, The Province July 14, 2010 3:53 PM

RCMP officers will search a section of Bowen Island again Saturday in an attempt to find evidence linked to the disappearance and suspected murder of Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson.

Cpl. Dave Ritchie said officers will be joined by local volunteers and members of North Shore Search and Rescue in the search of the area known locally as Seven Hills, roughly northeast of Snug Cove.

Ritchie would not say what prompted police to revisit the hilly area, which was searched by police dogs following Henrickson’s mysterious disappearance in June 2008.

He said investigators will be looking specifically for personal effects belonging to Henrickson in an attempt to narrow down the location of a possible crime scene.

“This search is being undertaken as part of the normal progression of a criminal investigation of this type,” he said. “[It] has not been prompted by any new or breaking information.”

According to this, volunteers are needed for RCMP search in the Jodi Henrickson case.

Volunteers will be asked to meet at the Bowen Island detachment at 9:30am, and the search will begin at 10am. It is expected to last until approximately 4pm.

Although the area has already been searched by K-9 units, investigators are looking for any personal or small items which may have been left behind at the time of Jodi’s disappearance. As such, anyone wishing to volunteer is reminded that they will be required to walk in forested, uneven terrain and are requested to bring the following items if they possess them: ski and/or hiking poles, work gloves, protective eye wear, appropriate footwear and an individual supply of food and water.

Also:

Please note that volunteers must RSVP with the RCMP. I understand they can take twenty volunteers who email them. So if you are going to sign up make sure you are available for the whole day, are physically fit for the task and have the necessary equipment. A van shuttle will be available to take the volunteers to the search site.
