BOWEN ISLAND (NEWS1130) - People on Bowen Island are joining with the RCMP and North Shore Rescue today to search for any evidence in the disappearance of 17-year-old Jodi Henrickson. There's been no trace of the Squamish teen since she vanished after a house party a year ago.

Jodi Henrickson, 17, has been missing for more than a year and is feared murdered. RCMP revisit a possible crime scene with volunteers looking for evidence Saturday, July 17.
Search launched for new clues in Henrickson case
They are hunting the Seven Hills area for any personal effects that could direct them to a possible crime scene. The search wasn't spurred by new information, Cpl. Dave Ritchie said, but will cover some areas overlooked during previous dog team searches.
"They are going to be going down terrain the dogs didn't get down, where it's quite steep," he said. "In other areas, if the dog was after a scent, they may have missed something small."
In March, police announced they were treating Henrickson's disappearance as a homicide. They have not explained why they believe she was met with foul play.
Henrickson's brother Rob James, who came out on Saturday to thank volunteers and authorities for their ongoing efforts, said the lack of closure still haunts his family.
"We're just trying to cope, doing our best, trying to stay focused on other things," he said. "We're just hoping for the best conclusion to this."
Searchers return to island to look for clues in murder of B.C. teen
By Cassidy Olivier, Postmedia News July 17, 2010 11:01 PM
BOWEN ISLAND, B.C. — Rob-James Henrickson stood quietly Saturday on Miller Road on this island 20 kilometres north of Vancouver and watched with mixed emotions as search crews worked diligently to find something, anything, belonging to his missing sister Jodi.
On the one hand, the 20-year-old university student was touched by the number of people who turned up to help. At the same time, he was unsure how he might feel if someone did find something.
"I’m watching people search for anything that can link my sister to a murder, so it’s pretty messed up," he said. "But at the same time, there’s an optimistic feeling because there are so many people here."
More than a dozen volunteers, RCMP officers and members of the North Shore Search and Rescue team spent the better part of Saturday searching the area known locally as Seven Hills for personal effects of Jodi Henrickson.
RCMP said news of relevant findings would be posted on their website. As of late Saturday, there was nothing to report.

Police nearly ran out of evidence bags during a six-hour search effort on Bowen Island today, but there's no telling yet whether any of the items recovered are connected to last summer's disappearance of teenager Jodi Henrickson.
Local resident Ily Allen said she believes the entire Bowen community has been touched deeply by the Henricksons' story, which is why she felt obliged to help with the search effort.
"I think it's important that we do everything we possibly can," said Allen. "As a mother, I can't imagine having a child go missing like that. The family needs closure."
Fellow volunteer Peter Matthews echoed Allen's sentiments.
"Our community needs to show support for their family in this terrible time," said Matthews.

North Shore Rescue leads search party on Bowen

Everyone has a different way of giving back to their community.
Some people volunteer at the local soup kitchen or food bank. Others raise pledges, or donate money, in support of local charities. But for members of North Shore Rescue (NSR), "giving back" usually means scaling a steep rock face, scouring rough terrain, or coordinating a dramatic helicopter rescue. All out of the goodness of their hearts.
On Saturday, July 17, seven members of NSR led a search party of police investigators and community volunteers through a wooded area of Bowen Island known as "Seven Hills."
The five-hour search, which started around 10 a.m., was for personal effects that may have belonged to Jodi Henrickson — a 17-year-old from Squamish who disappeared on the island more than a year ago and was never found.
According to police, Henrickson was last seen in the early hours of June 20, 2009 after leaving a party on the island. While details around her disappearance are murky, RCMP announced in March that they believe Jodi "met with foul play" and did not leave the island. The case was upgraded to a homicide investigation.
While standing on the side of Miller Road on Saturday, NSR team leader Tim Jones said the group of North Shore volunteers was happy to aid in the investigation, given the tragic nature of Jodi's disappearance.
"We all feel for the family," said Jones. "We understand that they want closure and we want to do anything we can to help. It's devastating that they can't find their daughter."

Investigators are processing several bags worth of material gathered Saturday (July 17) after volunteers, police, and search and rescue workers combed the Bowen Island locale believed to be the last place missing Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson was seen more than one year ago.
It’s unclear whether progress was made during the search of the Seven Hills area, which is off a main road and characterized by underbrush and vegetation about 30 feet from an embankment leading to water.
“The investigators are still going strong at it, but I don’t know if they feel they’ve made headway or not,” said Cpl. Dave Ritchie, who took part in the search.
Sea to Sky General Investigation Section personnel collected the material found at the scene and transported it to Squamish for dissemination. Police are soliciting expert investigators to go over the material, according to Ritchie.
“There’s lots of stuff found and I don’t know how much, if any, will be linked to Jodi, but that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said.
“The search went quite into the afternoon and they didn’t get as far as they want exactly, so they’ll probably do more,” said Ritchie, adding there’s been no date scheduled for a second search.
