Police investigating after letters containing white powder delivered to Toronto, Burlington residents
''Toronto and Halton police are investigating after numerous residents received suspicious extortion letters containing packages with white powder in the mail.

Residents in both south Etobicoke and Burlington have reported receiving these fraudulent letters, according to police.

Toronto police Const. Alex Li told CP24 that several people received letters specifically addressed to them that were delivered to their homes by mail from an unknown sender.''


''Halton police said it is believed that the letters were delivered by Canada Post in the morning hours of Dec. 18.

The letters included a small bag containing a white powder claimed to be fentanyl, police said.''

''They say initial police analysis indicates the white powder is confectioner’s sugar.

However, anyone who receives such a letter accompanied by a white substance is advised to avoid handling the substance as much as possible.

“Investigators are cautioning the public to be vigilant when opening their mail,” Li said.''

“Place the envelope outside, preferably in a covered area, and cover it with an upside down garbage can or something similar to protect it,” Li said. “Please contact police immediately and officers will attend and safely seize it as soon as possible.”
