It doesn't look like either of these suspects is getting much sleep.

Isn't it the law that no information about an ongoing investigation can be released until trial?

Yes there will be a publication ban

From a CTV news article...

Her brother states

Saunders' brother, Edmund, said the public's response to his sister’s disappearance is something that should happen every time an aboriginal woman goes missing.

This is what I was hoping would not happen.

This type of response needs to happen every time anyone goes missing! Black, white, aboriginal, male or female, young or old.

Canada is a multicultural country where one in five citizens is a visible minority. It would be very difficult for investigators to selectively ignore missing women in one of the numerous international peoples in the country.

I think the response that we saw in this case is typical, regardless of the missing person's origins. Two important factors are that someone knew Loretta's plans and that she was reported missing, albeit four days after she was last seen.

In cases where women vanish while, for example, hitch hiking, regardless of their origins, it becomes very difficult to solve the case.

Personally I think that the fact that Loretta was aboriginal had very little to do with the way people reacted to her being missing. I know myself I didn't become interested because of it. I became concerned because a young WOMAN from my home province was missing.

That is what mattered to me, not her race or color of her skin , hair or eyes ... But the fact that a young woman seemingly vanished from a city right here. To me the responses now trying to make it about her being a white looking aboriginal cheapen the efforts of those involved.
I truly don't believe that the people of Halifax and NS would have responded or cared any less had she looked like a " typical aboriginal " ( to quote an article I read today) I think we still would have rallied and been concerned and done things just the same.

I agree. I didn't react because of race, I reacted because it touched me. I would like to think that if she had markings of another ethnicity that I would react the same. A missing person, to me, is a missing person.

I respectfully do agree.

What interested me about the case is that it's another couple in their twenties that murdered the room mate (sublet landlord) that they had known for only a few weeks. I see similarities between this case and others where a young woman is murdered by a couple where the murdering woman seems to have some abnormal feelings of jealousy and resentment towards the victim.

Did B and V arrive at the court house in the same transport van? She looks different than she did the other day ,he had on the same clothes. One of the conditions placed on him when he was in court earlier this week was that he was to have no contact with her.

Not sure about whether they were in the same van. Unless someone brings them a change of clothes, I expect that they'll be wearing the same clothes for each appearance. The coat that Victoria is wearing is provided by investigators and has big letters on the back.

It looked to me like they arrived in the same transport this morning at court.

So, so sad, though.

Would this be similar to the AK case in your opinion?

This is more heartbreak, but almost a must read if you've been following this case.

This is the forward of the piece:

Quote: Darryl Leroux teaches sociology and criminology in K’jipuktuk, Sikep’nekatik district, Mi’kma’ki. He was supervising Loretta Saunders' honours degree thesis, on missing and murdered indigenous women. This essay was first published on the Halifax Media Coop website.

Lying in a ditch along the Trans-Canada Highway. I simply cannot get this image out of my mind.

I noticed about the coat it was the same coat she wore her last appearance except the hood was removed.

Maybe it was just the way the clip was spliced together. I would think there would be more than one transport van.

If they did arrive together that was probably a uncomfortable ride LOL.

There was a post earlier that had a screencap of VH/VL's facebook discussion with a friend where she made disparaging remarks against LS. Does anyone still happen to have it?

Welcome to WS - the screencap was posted about 2-3 pages back. I cannot remember which WS member posted it though so really not much help.

Have you been following the case from the beginning?

Right at the end of the video, it is stated that residents report hearing a commotion coming from in or around the apartment on the night of Loretta's death.

I have a copy and can post it in a couple of hours if it hasn't been re-posted by then.
