The seed was planted by a confluence of many, many factors. Blaming it on buying an Airsoft rifle is a huge oversimplification.
Agreed. Many teens play with airsoft guns and never kill anyone, ever.

I read elsewhere it was at the Surrey detachment. Still a longer journey for AS if he is still in Victoria.

Yes, a news outlet claimed it was at the Surrey rcmp HQ. The lawyer is a better source. I questioned if the Mcleods or BS' mom would have been required to make the same journey, if they also demanded to watch the video. Also had me wondering if it was specific to AS which could mean he's under some kind of house arrest/health watch. To me, he's guilty of withholding information in a murder inquiry so how he rates any concession at all from rcmp is bizarre. Unless, rcmp wants to use AS reaction to the video in their report. Its a nice interrogation tool, shame the lawyer was on to that.

That video makes the rcmp case and I would think it likely to almost warrant an armed guard if its to travel. I don't see rcmp risk exposing the tape via email, or video conferencing. Also unclear is why anyone's last will and testimony must be obeyed. Never heard of such a thing. The dying could demand anything at all, like banning rap music. So why do rcmp feel obliged to show AS the fruit of his fatherhood?

I don't get this.

It's not helpful at all.

I could see that, but the post I was responding to referred to, and I quote, "gruesome damage."
Hi, I brought up the possibility that the airsoft pellets could have been used as a signature or statement:
*point blank, repeated, continuous shots to sensitive tissues around the face causing or adding to the facial damage that was described as "gruesome damage." Or,
*a handful left around as a statement or signature. Or,
*possibly both, as above.

This was in response to someone pondering what the "conclusive evidence that links the two cases" that RCMP Officer Hackett referred to in a press release I can't find right now.

Complete speculation and conjecture on my part.

It'll be heartbreaking if they were found to not be responsible or if it was an accident and they felt they had no choice but to run.
1) We have to believe they are innocent until proven guilty, and in this case it won't be in a court of law.
2) I don't believe these two crimes, as they have been reported are examples of accidental death.
These two thoughts can be held at the same time.

Maybe they left orange peels, pork chops and matches as their "signature." IMO

I'm so sorry @katydid23 . The quote does seem to be messed up. I'll go back and see what went wrong with the quote.

My apologies!!

“Leamon said she was pleased that an agreement had been reached with Mounties that would protect the integrity of the investigation, “but also acknowledges my client’s parental rights.”...”
Father of B.C. triple-murder suspect views ‘difficult’ video recorded before son’s death

Is this to suggest the media drama over the RCMPs refusal to show AS the 30 second video was self-created at the onset only because he refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement?

I’d surely hope by now he’s fully cooperating with the investigation as he’s hired a defence attorney because he should have no reason whatsoever to attempt to sidetrack, thwart or stall it.

I’m thinking the knife Bryer was pictured with could also be linked to both crime scenes.
Me too and didn't BS fantasize about cutting off peoples heads.I really hated to say that since I haven't seen it mentioned before.

The poster may have done multi-quotes with one of your posts and deleted the wrong quote or vice versa.

Haha, well they must have left something behind, if there were items found which connected them to the murders.
Maybe eventually we will know the answer to this mystery. Imo

I really don’t think the lawyer can set up her client like that. I think she could be disbarred or face penalties for that. It’s not about obeying the request of the deceased it’s about the legal rights of access to what is being referred to as a last will and testament.

“That part of it is regretful, but I am pleased to see that the RCMP was willing to negotiate out this agreement, which in my view properly protects the integrity of the ongoing investigation while also acknowledging my client’s parental rights as a father,” she said.”
Suspected B.C. triple killer’s dad watches clip of son’s ‘last will and testament’

The Globe article states that AS has resided in Victoria since separation from his ex ten years ago.
Mounties had released the clip to Mr. Schmegelsky’s mother, but had previously refused to show his last words to his father, who has lived in the Victoria area since he and his wife split up more than a decade ago. ”
B.C. men who led police on a cross-Canada manhunt filmed several videos while on the run

I had seen comments from his lawyer that AS has a housing arrangement and support in place now. But that’s not indicating house arrest. I can’t find that link at the moment.

ETA.. found link
Leamon said Al is currently “marginally housed” but he is getting the support he needs.

“He is in regular contact with counsellors and is able to access those types of resources,” said Leamon.

“He does have people around him who are supporting him and ensuring that he is getting the counselling and the debriefing he needs in order to be properly supported throughout this very difficult process.”

Leamon described Al as “such a tragic character in many ways.”

“He is such an intelligent man,” she said. “He is so well informed. He just had a very, very difficult life circumstances. It’s hard to see that.”

I really don't feel that airsoft plays into the RCMP findings in any significant way. It's one of very few things we know about Breyer and easy to fixate on but not going to cause 'gruesome damage' like a firearm would. Even repeatedly shooting someone in the same general area, the worst you're going to see is some bruising.

If I were looking at conclusive evidence, I'd be looking at Canadian firearms laws more than airsoft. Most people are unaware that any restricted firearms in Canada are sold tested. The purchaser receives a target showing one round fired in the bullseye area. That round is also registered and allows for ballisitic evidence and quickly traces back to the owner of a specific firearm, which is why Canadians are reluctant to sell certain firearms without following proper procedure.

Other conclusive evidence that would put someone at the scene of any crime would be, finger prints, hair fibers (one or both may have owned pets), fibers from the burned truck & camper, etc.

I never considered that AS would have refused the non-disclosure in the beginning but that could be very possible. But why didn’t he mention that part earlier on when he claimed he wasn’t allowed to view it? The RCMP email to his lawyer that was leaked never offered that as a reason either.

Either way, having a lawyer oversee a ND put in place (possibly a modified version specific to AS - different from what the others may have signed?) seems to be the solution.

I don't think he was offered an NDA to begin with. Alan has issues, but he was so desperate to see that footage that I think if given the opportunity, he would have signed right away. MOO

The copied email didn’t say why AS was refused but now we know the reason he was required to sign a nondisclosure agreement is due to the fact the investigation is still ongoing. If the reason was something other than that, police didn’t say.

BBM

“At this time we will not be providing access to the video for Alan,” the officer wrote in the email. The message doesn’t say why, but Leamon said the RCMP told her it’s because the investigation is ongoing....”
