All efforts are being made in York Landing to apprehend two individuals matching the description of the suspects. The safety of community members is our priority. We remind residents to stay inside & check all doors & windows to ensure they are closed & locked. #rcmpmb

I hope it winds up today! Middle of the day and I've barely done an inch of work. Eeeep. I need this over so I can resume my life XD
Haaaaa. I think there’s likely several more hours left in this manhunt.

Law enforcement might set up a perimeter, and wait for daylight.

If these guys don’t try to breach it, I can see this all being over during the daylight hours of tomorrow.

sainte poussière les lapins, mon cher ami! ....

holy dust bunnies, my dear friend!....

a long night indeed, and I am up for it, mid afternoon here in Sydney, and lets us hope it winds up today!
Agreed!

I dunno. They probably have to keep moving at this point. Their camp would have to be an incredible distance away for them to feel safe, and I doubt that’s the case.

I think they are looking at a long night stumbling through the woods.

Not good in the current weather if they’re as lightly dressed as some are suggesting. The forecast low is 8°C/45°F.

Just after midnight here and I'm exhausted. Went to bed at 4am last 'night' due to this case and I figured I'd get to bed earlier tonight. LOL. I'm wondering if the RCMP will establish a perimeter and begin again in the am when they have light and possibly better weather conditions.

Long time lurker first time joiner as above great to see a site not fighting each other!

My first point, that video which was released across socials showing the chopper above the house looks to me like one person was taken away.

Is it realistic to say that one is in custody whilst the other is still on the run? The police have claimed they are both on the run. Who do you believe here? That footage was rather unique.

My heart goes out to these communities being affected by this. I can only imagine the terror they are feeling in their own homes right now.☹️

You can assume that if an angry bearded man did confront them, RCMP will provide a summary before trial.
A perfectly good reason to ignore him as a suspect

Amazing that they've made it this long. Especially, Kam in that short sleeved shirt.
I was going to comment on this earlier, Port Alberni sometimes gets that cold at night in summer, so does Liard Hotsprings and Dease Lake: I think he'd have a jacket.

I wonder how much stuff they're carrying and whether they had a camp set up near the dump, that they ran back to. It would make tracking them easier if they did.

Exactly. But you gotta so what you gotta do.

They might be too weak and tired to keep moving though, but adrenaline can be powerful.

Not sure why the darts directed at the RCMP but I thought the RCMP leveraging with the Bear Clan Patrol was absolutely brilliant! They know their people who in turn know their land and territory best.

Winnipeg's Bear Clan Patrol to act as 'ambassadors' as Mounties hunt fugitives
“For the first time, members of the Winnipeg-based Bear Clan Patrol are travelling to remote First Nations in Northern Manitoba amid the massive hunt for two fugitives suspected in two homicides in Northern B.C.

Six Bear Clan Patrol members from Winnipeg flew into Gillam, Man., to provide support and services for residents in three smaller communities surrounding the town at the centre of a nationwide search for the suspected killers....”

RCMP are NOT the ones who invited the bear clan, as it says in the article. Just correcting facts.

I said you get what you pay for. Take it as you want
I say again, there are experienced and able counsellors in Health Units who help people with mental health issues. There are also a plethora of support groups a person can be referred to. This is not the time or place to delve into the shortcomings of such.

Perhaps they have a camp set up where they are keeping the rest of their stuff? It would be risky to leave anything behind though. Who knows if they’d even be able to go back to collect their belongings if they are in fact on the run again.

They can't cover 200-240 km in several days and "have a camp set up." They have been moving (a lot) and therefore, have to take their stuff. If their stuff included food, they wouldn't be at the dump.

Therefore, they have very little stuff (having burned it all in their truck fire). They left all the camping stuff in the RAV4, apparently, as well. If they left their stuff near the dump, good luck in getting it now that LE is so heavily involved and locals are very much on the look-out.

Anyone else think they will be heading onward wearing their same clothes...with no food...no guns...I doubt they ever had water filtration.

A perfectly good reason to ignore him as a suspect
He might've come forward when they were searching for him, and been discounted as involved in any way, and RCMP didn't identify him to prevent people harassing him? Though, they could've at least said that it was cleared up...

But let's not overstate the charges. It's a second degree murder charge, implying no premeditation (which could change of course).

At any rate, I doubt they knew that they were in the media until after they stole the RAV4.

Let's not understate the charge of second degree murder!

They needed a new getaway vehicle, and murdered the next suitable vehicle's driver.

I've also heard "what you put in is what you get out."

Take it as you want.
I agree. Free of charge does not always equate with poor service. But like I mentioned previously, this is not a subject for this thread.

It’s now 11pm in York Landing, Manitoba, and almost half an hour after sunset, so it will be interesting to see if/how the search continues overnight. We’ll keep you updated if there’s any news

What we know so far 9:00 PM PST
  • Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky are believed to have been spotted in York Landing, a town of roughly 450 people, 80km from Gillam, in Manitoba by the Bear Clan Patrol, an Indigenous patrol group who are based in the provincial capital of Winnipeg.

  • Heavily armoured police have descended on the small town with tracker dogs, helicopters and drones and are searching for the pair.

  • McLeod and Schmegelsky are suspected of killing Australian Lucas Fowler, 23, and US citizen Chynna Deese, 24, and have been charged with the death of Canadian, Leonard Dyck, 64.

  • Residents were warned to stay indoors overnight, as the search for the two men continued.

  • The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed as night fell in Manitoba that the suspects had not yet been caught and that the search was continuing. They asked people not to post photos of their officers onto social media, for fear of jeopardising their operations.

I’m sitting right beside you.

I think, to a certain extent, it was planned.
Who goes out on a killing run without a little planning?
2 guys in a truck decide suddenly to kill random people?

I think burning the cars was part of the plan.
That part failed.

Guns were also part of the plan and I am sure they still have guns.
They can play games in prison?
Their choice: prison with games for the rest of my life or end it now?
That is why I believe they still have their guns.

The part that was not planned properly was the escape route.
It is their (so far) successfull escape in such harsh conditions that is propulsing them into "folk heroes" or drawing a fan-cluyb as one poster noted.
David vs Goliath.
Man vs Manpower & Machinepower
Man does not surrender.

The end
