I have not seen one real link yet that shows me the RCMP stating that they have no doubt about who murdered the couple, only links to links to links of people's opinions or snippets cut from reports that do not state this. A statement saying they are still working on charging suspects means absolutely nothing. If there is are real links stating that they have no doubt who killed the couple, where are they, why are ppl just making random statements here with nothing to back them up?
"Spokesperson Sgt. Janelle Shoihet also pushed back against any suggestion that the delay in laying charges is due to doubt that Schmegelsky and McLeod are the suspects who should be charged in Fowler and Deese’s deaths."
B.C. RCMP say they’re still working on charging suspects for Fowler, Deese murders

Is there a link somewhere to this footage? Definitely want to see it! I know the Twitter account has been taken down but surely it remains somewhere on the interwebs..

If you go and search #canadamanhunt you will see it. I just saw one and it was from an australian news station.

Yeah, I think people talk about being compassionate about mental illness in the abstract, but when they see it in action they still tend to jeer and throw peanuts.

Its a shame, because, to be honest, I wouldn't doubt some news outlets jumping on a possibly offhanded comment he made about delaying his book release, and 'encouraging' him to release to create a headline. Even if this didn't happen and he initiated this himself, I think its a bit judgemental for anyone to make sweeping generalisations about him right now, given the situation he is now in. I can't imagine his decision-making is entirely clear, nor do we know the real motivation around it all.

Ahh, gotcha. I misunderstood your initial post to mean there was a new update. :)
No sorry. But it has occurred to me that what we heard from the Bear Clan spokesperson about shots fired was indeed true and if so then it’s very likely at least one person was killed tonight. The RCMP would need time to sort out what happened before going to the press. Hopefully no officers or innocent bystanders have been injured or killed.

I want to see them brought in alive simply so they can explain their actions. That won't make it okay, but the "why" is very interesting...

I just don't want to see any more death, but I do admit I am very curious as to what is going through the heads as well.

Rez security is my understanding
Article posted earlier this evening. But the group was brought in to patrol and assist RCMP. Their official titles according to the article were "ambassadors".

My mistake re stony, it is in Manitoba. I did my post real fast as I was trying to keep up with others. I too worked in a federal penitentiary as well as a LUDO but not in BC. It has been awhile so I was a bit foggy. Anyway, I did welcome anyone to correct me :) My main point being that co-convicted are not usually placed in the same institutions.

There was a murderous teen duo from Victoria, I do believe they were both sent to Kent. The younger one was kept at a youth detention centre until he turned 18 but was then sent to Kent where his "partner" was...

The Bear Clan are respected by both the indigenous and the RCMP in my opinion. No way they would fake this and use it as a publicity stunt.

Yeah that seems ludicrous. What a terrible allegation. Sad to see it. I doubt we'd ever see such an allegation about a non-native volunteer group like volunteer firemen.

So the twitter account that previously posted the footage has been taken down. Not just the video, but the entire page “does not exist” anymore.
I and am sure many others saw the video but without being able to see the town on google/apple maps to verify those buildings etc. that video could have come from anyplace IMO. The resolution on google maps so far as I can tell doesn't permit viewing down to regular street level.

Hi wary!

Yes, that's my understanding as well. These 2 would be charged in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada, which is a federal law and doesn't differ from province to province. It's not like the States where the laws and punishments differ by State. JMO

That is correct,,,our federal law is the same across the country. We do extradite though to other counties,,,,,for example if an American or Australian committed a crime in Canada,,,,immigration would work with federal corrections and the offenders country of origin,,,,to return the offender home,,,,however only with the countries we have agreements with and not to a location where the death penalty or a firing squad would be waiting for him or her upon arrival. We also do the same in return,,,accepting Canadians home to complete their sentences here when they have been arrested in foreign countries.

In placement and transfers of inmates within Canada,,,,we do try to house offenders in provinces,,,,and penitentiaries where there is some positive community ( family) support for them,,,, if at all possible.

might be pedantic quibbling but Im not sure I agree with the characterization, and thats not actually what the article said

A manitoba FN assembly asked bear clan to "provide support and services for residents in three smaller communities"
""We are very concerned for the safety of the people in our northern communities,""
"While RCMP officers conduct door-to-door checks on residents in gilliam, patrol group members will be splitting into pairs to check in on people living in Fox Lake Cree Nation, York Factory First Nation and War Lake First Nation."
"AMC said it approached Bear Clan – an Indigenous-led, community-based, crime-prevention group – to send teams into communities where tensions were high"
"The community-based solution is intended to fill a gap in police coverage"

I mean if we can stop beating around the bush for a second it was basically "Hey can you guys come up here and do cop stuff for a bit, cuz if its got "first nation" in the name then actual cops cant be bothered"

Cant say they were wrong as it was bear clan who spotted the suspects, in a FN town rcmp didnt bother with

Edit: if I seem a little defensive or snippy its cuz its 3am and racist conspiracy theories have a way of making you extra tired (dont mean you afitzy)

I dont know how to link to that particular tweet, but if you scroll 3/4 of way down tweets page it should be there, It looks like unconfirmed and probably not relevant footage and that was why it was taken down elsewhere?

Issue here. Have we heard anything about these two being “skilled survivalists?”

A look at the vast wilderness where teen fugitives #bryerschmegelsky and #kammcleod grew up. The two friends are said to be "skilled survivalists." #reportingfromCanada #canadianmanhunt

The 2 have lasted this long in challenging conditions. But I'm calling BS on this post as if you compare the 2 suspects to the Germans with the canoe situation there is no comparison. The Germans survived because they were prepared and had navitgation tools and skills even if they picked the wrong canoe!

We don't know that the 2 suspects have any of this knowledge. But BS father did say initially that his son was 'hiding in the woods' and he didn't seem too concerned about that being the case IMO. If BS were a typical city kid that had never been in areas like Gillam then why would BS father say what he did about his sons survival skills?

Yeah. My issue is that that quote almost makes them sound like Bear Grylls or something.

I’m sure they’re “outdoorsy,” as you kind of have to be there.

I don’t think their survivalists or anything, although you’re right, this did take a degree of knowledge and skill to survive in those conditions.

I'm sorry if this article has already been posted, but Sherman Kong (owns a wilderness survival company in Manitoba) gives an interview about the suspects, and how they may be dealing with being on the run in the wilderness.

There was the full version of the video which now appears gone from the web which went for about 40 seconds.

Now I’ve seen the location map I’m sure the video is real. The full video had someone being dragged or something being put into a car. Potentially they might have been staying here? It might have been their belongings they are grabbing maybe.

Water Treatment Plant – York Factory First Nation
I believe that will be fresh water treatment. “Water Treatment Plant” is the standard terminology for these (https://www.awwa.org/portals/0/files/publications/documents/toc/watertreatmentplantdesign5etoc.pdf) and the building looks right based on design drawings and pictures of plants I’m aware of using sand filter media for drinking water treatment. It’s pretty hard to tell, but my guess is it’s the brown roof at bottom center in this satellite view:
