Nationwide manhunt underway for Luka Rocco Magnotta as police search for missing body parts

After the janitor found the torso Tuesday, police went over the building’s five security cameras and asked Mr. Schorer to identify a man putting something in the building’s garbage. “I said, that’s the guy in 208,” he said.

Neighbour Derek MacKinnon, an actor whose best-known role was as a killer in the 1980 slasher film Terror Train, was one of the few people who struck up a conversation with Mr. Magnotta.

“One day we talked, and I said, ‘You and I have something in common. We’re both in film, but I’m not in the same kind of film world you’re in.’ He just laughed,” Mr. MacKinnon said. Later Mr. Magnotta confided that he was worried about his career haunting him forever and asked for advice about getting into “legitimate” movies.

Then about five days ago, he invited Mr. MacKinnon up to his apartment as they sat on the front step, where resident gather on warm nights to drink beer.

“He said, ‘You’ve never been to my apartment, why don’t you come up?’ And I didn’t, thank God.”

Richard Payette was running his air conditioner full blast Wednesday to fend off the smell coming from Apt. 208 across the hall. He said he never got so much as a hello out of his neighbour, but nothing in recent days suggested crimes were being committed a few metres away.

“Believe me, if there were screams or anything I would have notified somebody, but he was quiet as a mouse, this guy,” he said. Looking out his back window, he had recently noticed the suitcase among the garbage bags in the back alley. “I was telling myself maybe I should pick that suitcase up. You know, one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure,” he said. “I’m glad I didn’t, but it looked too new to be in the garbage.”

According to a neighbour in Montreal, Magnotta moved to the city from Toronto four months ago to be closer to his child.

Several members of Magnotta’s immediate family live in Peterborough, where local police said they got a call from investigators in Montreal at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Staff Sgt. Marc Habgood said police visited Magnotta’s family that morning. “They hadn’t seen him in years,” he said.

But one neighbour said Magnotta returned to the home occasionally, and lit a fire inside a closet in the second-floor bedroom about a year ago. Black soot still stains the window and eaves.

Police were called to his mother’s home to warn reporters she was not interested in speaking.

“She’s intimidated, afraid. It’s all news to her today too, all these things unfolding,” said Sgt. Dan Maclean.

IMHO I do not believe KH ever ended up in the Carribean. I believe she is somewhere in Montreal still. IMO again, I cannot see another country welcoming convicted murderers into their country. I believe in 2007 she was spotted in Montreal, Quebec and caught on video. Who knows thought. Hopefully someone, somewhere will find her again. Maybe this sicko is heading her way. :moo:

I (think I) posted the FB account for Vladmir earlier in this thread, but didn't look at 'Logan' because I hadn't seen that, didn't make the H connection, so I didn't feel it would be appropriate to snoop around.
There are also some B names there, and I had read recently that KH either goes by that name, or is married to somebody of that name. Figured that was just rumour (was looking for KH's possible location).

Comments go way back to December 4, 2011 about the kitten killing videos and people being able to ID him :what: I still cannot believe something wasn't done about these videos and LE long ago, this is nuts. So many people posting hateful and revengeful remarks but was nothing done to track this monster down and question him? My mind is spinning wondering how he was able to get away with this and move onto killing a guy months later. I'm shocked and disgusted. Maybe I'm wrong and LE was contacted but why wasn't he arrested then for cruelty to animals or inhumane treatment, whatever they could nail him with. IKES! :moo:

Once again I really worry about the decay of our modern society.......these stories used to happen once every couple of years and were instantly notorious, but these days it just seems to be happening all the time......I mean a couple of days ago we had the nude nutter eating the face of a guy on a highway and now this!!!!

It really is nightmarish stuff and to me is happening wwaaayyy too much for me.

Oh I hear you revampz, this is scary stuff these days. I took supper over to my elderly parents this eve (for supper tomorrow) and my dear dad broke down and sobbed and said how he is so scared for his children/grandchildren/greatgrandchildren. He said it may seem so selfish of him to say but he said he is glad to be checking out of life soon rather then just coming into life. I totally understood where he was coming from. Something has got to change. I don't know where we as society can start other then at home, but it seems for every parent who gives a cr@p about the well being and future of their children, there are three who don't give a cr@p kwim.

Here in Canada there has been renewed interest in the death penalty (especially since the abduction, rape and murder of Victoria Stafford, eight year old little girl), but it seems our government leader is not interested in visiting that issue. No matter how many signatures are on a petition; they chose to turn away from it. I don't know what would be more beneficial; the death penalty or life in prison anymore. One way I see life in prison as more punishment because the perp has to live the rest of their lives confined to a cell, knowing and living with what they did on a daily basis, whereas the death penalty seems to be an easy out for them. Sorry, JMHO and I'm not meaning to bring up the DP debate here, just saying. Something has got to give; don't know what but hopefully sooner then later. All :moo:

That link is for St Catherines, Bernardo frequented that area, got me thinking this guy looks like Bernardo. He also looks wasted.

I have not caught up reading posts but I noticed some similarities here. I wonder if KH and PB somehow knew Luka in their earlier years. I read an article which reported Luka was born in Scarborough, ON. PB also lived there IIRC or at least was known to have raped many women there. Now this link to St. Catherines...LM and KF were both from St. Catherines. The house which PB and KH lived in, where they LM and KF where held and murdered them, and the other Jane Doe was raped happened in that house which is in Port Dalhousie, ON, which is minutes from St. Catherines. PB lived in St. Catherines also. There are connections there somehow and now that you say this sicko looks like PB...And KH supposedly dated or was seeing Luka. Odd. KH is 42, PB will be 48 this August. Luka is 29. Maybe my mind is just overworked/overtired. I do wonder if there was a connection of knowing each other prior to PB and KH's arrests. Luka would've been around age nine at that time (1992) :what: :moo:

This apparent lack of evidence collection and crime scene security is appalling and embarrassing.

The only thing that would make sense is that the authorities are hoping he will return... which is unlikely. I believe he is long gone now, possibly out of the country.

I hope LE collected cuttings from the mattress and blanket and whatever else they found for further testing. Let's hope they're not bumbling this case already. MOO. I could see them taking cuttings instead of taking the whole mattress so to speak but strange none the less.

Eh, maybe we can have it both ways. Let them rot in jail, then when their measly 25 year "life" sentence is up, hang 'em?

Whether or not the death penalty issue is visited, something needs to be done about this pathetic, sorry excuse for a 'life sentence' we have here. And sentences should be served consecutively, not concurrently. Such an insult to the victims.

Luka's personality seems to be that of someone who would have nice possessions (even if stolen)

His advice on disappearing essay said to pack up valuable belongings in your car and leave. So maybe anything he had that was worth anything was packed up already.

Sillybilly may be right that he really does have a car. His other advice was do not get rid of your car. Sell it to your fake identity. So the police need to see if he sold a car and if so to whom. That person would likely be him under a false name.

Did you see the video of the apartment? The mattress was not cut. Blood was on a table still. And one thing I did not see is any finger print dusting. I mean the police need to know if he had an accomplice or if any other missing person had been in there. The place looks like there was no investigation.
