I'm starting to agree with you here -- thinking that they went off and the RV was stolen while they were gone.

Considering they have not contacted family and didn't reach their planned destination with their daughter by July 10, then I think something is up. For both of them not to contact anyone I think is out of character. That would mean both would of had some type of diminished capacity. I think the odds of both having something like that at the same time is low.

To tell the truth, I have a mental picture of them having stopped at a mountie station to report their RV being stolen, so that one division knows where they are and the other divisions are searching for them...

LOL, there has definitely been some screw ups in this case.

Timeline of the McCann investigation

July 3

Lyle Thomas McCann, 78, and his wife, Marie Ann McCann, 77, leave St. Albert, Alta., headed for B.C. They are driving a 1999 green and white Gulf Stream Sun Voyager recreational vehicle and towing a light green Hyundai Tucson SUV.

Lyle is filmed on surveillance video filling the RV at a St. Albert gas bar around 9:30 a.m., the last time either of the McCanns has been seen.

July 5

Around 7 p.m., firefighters respond to a call about a motorhome fire at the Minnow Lake campground near Edson, Alta.

No bodies are found inside, but police discover the registration linking the RV to the McCanns. The SUV is not found at the scene, but the manager of the campground later tells CBC News it was in the campground earlier in the day.

Mounties phone the McCanns' home and officers later knocked on the McCanns' door, but found nobody home, according to the RCMP's lead spokesman on the case.

July 10

The McCanns are scheduled to meet their daughter, Trudy Holder, at the Abbotsford, B.C., airport, but never show up. Holder, who says her parents are always early, calls a family member and then the RCMP.

After hearing from Holder, the Mounties begin an investigation into the couple's disappearance. They will search 259 square kilometres from the air, interview witnesses and search the couple's cellphone records and bank accounts.

July 12

The RCMP confirm the July 5 discovery of the McCanns' motor home at Minnow Lake. Police have returned to the site to search for evidence.

July 13

The McCanns' SUV, bearing Alberta licence plate ZPK 289, has not been found. (RCMP)

Diana Bjorklund and her father, Evert, go to the RCMP detachment in Prince George, B.C., to report having seen a vehicle in the community on July 8 matching the description of the McCanns' SUV . Bjorklund says they had noted the car because it was moving so slowly.

After a discussion with civilian staffers, Bjorklund and her father are allowed to leave.

Bjorklund later tells CBC Radio in Prince George that the RCMP weren't interested when they reported the information.

July 14

The Mounties put out a media release asking the Bjorklunds to return to the detachment for a followup interview.

July 15

The RCMP say they have multiple credible sightings of the green SUV in the Prince George area, but back away from saying the vehicle was actually there, since it hasn't been stopped or seen by police.

Thanks, Ruby. Bolded and underlined by me:

Is this confirmed, then, that the "couple" who LE was looking for, is the Bjorklunds and his daughter?

Why is LE backing away from saying it was in Prince George with multiple sightings? They wrote the plate down, so, is it being suggested they are not credible? I could see LE hesitating on one report of the vehicle, but weren't there multiple sightings?

Wouldn't there be video of the vehicle in Prince George from gas station/store etc., to verify if the vehicle is there?

EDMONTON — RCMP say the investigation into the disappearance of a St. Albert couple will be reviewed for possible procedural mistakes, and new details into the investigation are expected to be released this afternoon.

A press conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with RCMP assistant commissioner Peter Hourihan. (This would be 4:30 pm EST, I think)

On Tuesday, two Prince George residents came forward to report having seen a missing SUV matching the description. The pair said they left without leaving contact information. Webb said that a civilian employee at the Prince George detachment failed to record contact information from the witnesses, which would be a breach of normal RCMP procedures. After they left, Prince George RCMP released a statement asking the couple to return.

A resident of Edson wondered whether the couple's troubles began even before leaving St. Albert.
There's always the possibility of perps getting into the m/home prior to their leaving. Probably not at the pumps as they gassed up right on the main highway through St. Albert and there was surveillance. If McCann's had everything ready to leave in the morning their m/home and SUV would have been parked already attached on the street in front of their home would be my guess. Anyone could have gotten in and hid, knowing this m/home was going to be heading off down the highway.
Bret also said as his father had been a long haul trucker, would not have stopped as soon as Edson and certainly not at that campground. So somewhere between leaving St. Albert for the 1 and 1/2 hour drive, something happened to them very likely. First the m/home was parked in stall 8 and shortly after it was found burning down a cutline. Both vehicles had been seen on the move prior to the fire. That was 2 days after leaving St. Albert. It seems to me that the perps were in control of both vehicles at that time, using the SUV to escape.
They know their way around Edson for sure, at least the backwoods.
