As far as the McCanns are concerned, it would seem to me that time is of the essence, in terms of locating them. I wonder if LE and the Crown could negotiate something whereby they make a "deal" with TV; that all previous legal/criminal issues/warrants he's got will be disregarded IF he provides them with information on the whereabouts of the McCanns? Seems to me that his other issues are so trivial now in comparison to locating this dear couple.

The saddest thing is; they cannot really "force" TV to tell them anything if he doesn't want to, or claims he doesn't know anything (when in fact they may have evidence that he does).

It boggles my mind that he was found basically right at home. One would have thought he'd have been long gone, hiding out and trying to get as far away from there as possible. I wonder what it "says", the fact that he was found where he was?

My heart goes out to the family; things must feel like they're at such a stand-still. How frustrating to know LE has the POI in custody and have reason to believe he knows something about the McCanns but nothing can "force him" to talk.

I think his other charges are trivial to this also. Yet I doubt he will talk because then I think he will be facing double murder charges. Now if we had the death penalty then they could bargain with him. Canada made a big mistake getting rid of that.

RCMP searched a campground Wednesday just a few kilometres from where Travis Vader was arrested earlier this week.

Residents of MacKay said police had blocked off the road to the Nojack campground, a small rest area on Highway 16, near the town’s turnoff....

The search that lasted all day Wednesday was less than ten minutes east of where the St. Albert couple’s SUV was discovered abandoned last Friday in a stand of trees.

I wouldn't be against this either as long as it meant closure of some sort for the family. I also have to wonder what pointed them to the campground that was searched yesterday on Highway16, was it a tip from someone? Something TV told LE? I honestly hope there was at least something found there providing a clue as to what happened. It will be interesting to see if there are any new developments in the case announced today.

I don't know what kind of personality TV has, but if he is an arrogant kind of person, maybe he thinks there is no evidence left behind if he is connected to it, and therefore no need to run. If he is arrogant, might he want to stay close by just to sit back and watch the cops getting a run around? Who knows what his reasons were for not running. I still have to wonder why his sister has claimed as well that she was with him from Edmonton between the times the McCann's went missing and when the RV was found?!

Nearly three weeks after a St. Albert couple vanished, RCMP searched a campground east of Edson on Wednesday.

Police wouldn’t confirm by press time whether the search of the Nojack recreation area was related to the mysterious disappearance of the McCanns.

Nor would they say whether anything was discovered.

Authorities keyed on at least four locations at the campground, a source said.

Bret McCann — whose parents Lyle and Marie McCann vanished after embarking on a road trip to B.C. — said Wednesday night that he was not aware of the search.

“We’re anxious but optimistic,” he said.

Bret noted that his brother and sister went to the St. Albert RCMP detachment Wednesday to provide DNA samples.

Earlier in the day, Bret said he received an apology from an unlikely source — the family of Travis Vader, the man believed to have crucial information about the seniors’ disappearance.

So would providing DNA samples be considered normal procedure at this point in the investigation given what we know so far? Or has LE found something they want to compare?

He hasn't been charged in connection with their disappearance, but police believe he has crucial information that would help their investigation.

The case has captivated people across Canada, and Bret said he's received sympathetic letters from many of those people -- including some from Vader's family.

"I think they were victimized as well," Bret said of Vader's relatives.

"I understand their situation as well."

Mounties have interrogated Vader, but the McCann family said they're still awaiting answers on what fate befell their parents.

"We're highly anxious," Bret said. "Every time the phone rings, there's a lot of trepidation."

He urged Vader to share any information he has.

"It's obvious he has a family and children and that he had a happy family life before he had those troubles," Bret said.

"I would appeal to that side of him to help us find our parents."

Nettie, I was wondering this myself.

Four key locations within the campground indicates specific information to me.

Unfortunately, I think that LE is preparing for identification, and that is where the DNA request has come in.

This makes me sad.

I am hopeful that the McCann's will be found today. :-(

Also, the lack of urgency in trying to find the McCann's (if they were believed to be wandering in the bush), is fairly indicative to me of the direction the case is taking at this point.

LE has information, and they are pursuing that.

It pains me greatly to agree with this, but I have to be honest and say I do. I would truly consider this a miracle if this couple were found alive at this point. I feel so sorry for this family. They have such high hopes, but then I think anyone in that situation has to live each day having hope. I just hope they get answers TODAY!

I believe it's pretty common for people to stay close to something they know. That's why it's so common to have bodies that are dumped in remote locations turn out to have connections to the murderer, and stuff like that. Plus this guy's apparently pretty drug-addled and probably not thinking that clearly.

What are the boxes in this this picture, being taken from the home?

tp-vader-home-search.jpg

It says here that LE has been searching the Novak Campground since Saturday, July 17th. Tight wraps on the searches then, that started then, and ended Wednesday.

The area was first searched on July 17, CBC News has learned.

RCMP officers also spent Wednesday searching a home in nearby MacKay, where Travis Vader was apprehended early Monday on outstanding warrants unrelated to the disappearance of the McCanns.

Officers could be seen carrying boxes out of the home.

RCMP have completed a search of the Nojack recreation area where they were hoping to find some new evidence in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann.

They won't say if anything was found but the fact they've left the area speaks louder than words. The investigation continues in the Edson area.

The so-called person of interest in the McCann's disappearance, Travis Vader (above), has been moved to the Edmonton Remand Centre. The 38-year-old man has been interviewed by RCMP Serious Crimes investigators but they can't disclose what, if anything, he said.

It will be possibly weeks before forensic evidence including DNA found in the McCann's SUV can be completely analyzed. Until then, investigators are trying to narrow the time line that the green Hyundai Tucson was in the Edson area before it was found.

I am thinking they are boxes that LE has put evidence in.

Mike Tarasko, with 'The Fox' radio in Edson, says there is major police activity on scene, they have closed off the recreation area in Nojack.

"I spoke to a constable on scene here and he just kind of said they are there searching the grounds. He's not allowed to comment on what their searching for as it is a part of an ongoing investigation." explains Tarasko, "So, I specifically asked him if it had anything to do with the missing McCanns, Lyle and Marie, who have been missing for almost two weeks now and he just kinda said, 'Well I can't really talk about it'.".

Tarasko says many of the police in the area are wearing blue gloves as they search.

I thought those boxes look like computers. (from the bottomside)???

I also want to add, the fact that officers are wearing gloves really shouldn't come as a surprise to the newspapers! Isn't it standard procedure when looking for evidence so as not to compromise it any way??

That's it. I was thinking they must be computers, but......that's it, 3 CPU's, bottom side showing...odd (the number that is).

A search Wednesday of a campground east of Edson was related to the disappearance of a St. Albert couple, say Mounties, who remain tight-lipped on what they may have found.

"I can confirm our investigators were out there," said Doris Stapleton, a spokeswoman for RCMP K Division in Edmonton.

"I can tell you they've wrapped up their search of that area."

The search was related to the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann, she confirmed.

Stapleton said cops are back in Edson resuming the investigation.
