This post comes on the heels of another here, which was the first time I'd ever heard the term "wry-neck"!

UK - UK - Staffordshire, White Male, 23-39, torticollis (wry neck), buried on his knees, 27 Mar 1971
Good grief, here is a thread for another uid with wry neck. Did not pay attention to it at the time, probably thought it was an abbreviation for a wrinkled neck.
Note to self, if i ever get neck pain to just keep it to myself!
Ws thread..
IL - IL - Jefferson Co., WhtFem Head 166UFIL, 30-50, wry neck syndrome, Jan'93

25 years after woman's head found in Jefferson County, mystery lingers
"They say the woman had wry neck, a condition which causes stress on the muscles that keep head posture upright.

They believe it may have been caused from previous head trauma".

I was born with a wry neck, the cause of it being I suffer from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Believe me it is much more that neck pain and 60+ years later it still likes to make its presence felt.

Roger's case details have me curious whether he's a match to John Doe. His profile is linked below. Some thoughts/questions I have:

Was Roger nervous enough about testifying to stage his own disappearance? If he planned his disappearance, then it seems he could have bought a spare set of mobility aids or used an actual 'walking' stick from nearby brush. His profile reads to me as if he could have left on his own as he was able to walk.

Would he appear as aged as JD does in the composite after living homeless for 5 years while dealing with his disability and any other potential issues?

I think the bigger stumbling block in determining whether he's a match is the wry neck syndrome and missing teeth.

Those of you with medical/dental knowledge...
1. Could Roger's back injures have appeared as wry neck at autopsy? If not, could it be that the wry neck issue was not specifically mentioned in his profile but rather included as part of "back problems"? Is it common for wry neck be casually described as "back problems"?
2. Roger's teeth appear perfect in the photo which would have been taken at least 5 years prior to UID being found, but are those dentures or partials? If they're dentures could he still have decayed teeth in his mouth?

Roger Paul Bertrand
Missing since November 11, 1999 from Hanmer, Ontario, Canada
Classification: Endangered Missing

Vital Statistics
    • Date Of Birth: September 5, 1957
    • Age at Time of Disappearance: 42 years old
    • Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'5"; 145 lbs.
    • Distinguishing Characteristics: White male. Brown hair; hazel eyes.

    • Clothing: Black leather, waist length jacket with many zippers and buckles; three-quarter length, grey-blue, down parka; jeans, and brown workboots.
Circumstances of Disappearance
On the 11th of November 1999, between 10:00 - 11:30 a.m., Roger Bertrand left his home on Dutrisac Road in Hanmer, Ontario. Bertrand was scheduled to testify as a material witness in a case where the accused, was suspected of trying to hire someone to kill his wife, and he had appeared nervous for a week prior to his disappearance. Police have not drawn a link between the disappearance and the court case.
When Bertrand first disappeared, no one paid much attention because he had the habit of leaving for months at a time.
Although he needs a brace and cane to walk, those items were left behind in his home.
Bertrand was brilliant at repairing electronics and had a passion for ham radio. He worked for construction and for Ernie's signs before an injury left him with back pain. He was on a disability pension.
Foul play is possible.

Amongst all the other uncertainties on Roger, it states his height is 5"5. Even if that was slightly off, the UID was stated to be 5"9 to 5"11 :(
