'Toronto police say the homicide unit is investigating after a man was reportedly pushed to his death from a balcony downtown late Wednesday night.

Police said they were called to Church and Shuter streets at around 11:58 p.m. for an unknown trouble call'.

“Ibby Albazz, who lives next door to the unit where the incident occurred, said he and his girlfriend frequently observed ‘strange’ behaviour by residents in the apartment, especially in recent weeks. ‘We just hear a lot of arguments, door slamming, glass shattering, all the time,’ he said.”

Homicide and Missing Persons Unit

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of a Homicide investigation.
On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at approximately 11:58 p.m., police responded to a call at a residential unit in the Church Street and Shuter Street area.
It is reported that:
  • a person fell from a balcony
  • the suspect fled the scene
  • the victim was transported to hospital where they were pronounced deceased
The victim has been identified as Ryan Williams, 38, of Toronto. An image of the victim has been released.
The suspect is described as male, 38-40 years old, 5'8"-5'9", wearing a black hooded jacket, beige pants and black shoes. The suspect goes by the alias "Justice".
An image has been released.
Investigators would also like to speak with three persons of interest. They are described as:
Person of Interest #1: Male 5'10", wearing a black jacket, gray shirt, dark gray sweatpants, and black shoes with white soles.
Person of Interest #2: Female, 5'6", brown hair in a high bun, thin build, wearing black pants with white accents on the sides, red shoes with white soles, pulling a grocery trolley bag.
Person of Interest #3: Female, 5'6”, with a thin build, dark hair, wearing a black jacket, white toque, black pants, and black shoes.''

On Friday, April 26, 2024, Joshua Pilgram, 29, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

  1. Second Degree Murder
He is scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 106.

''As of Monday, police say the three people of interest have been identified.

At a news conference last week, Det.-Sgt. Henri Marsman said the man fell from the balcony following an altercation involving weapons in the unit he shared with his mother. Police initially said they believed the man was pushed, but Marsman now says investigators are still probing what caused the fall.''
