I don't want to be negative as I enjoyed that forum very much but there was one particular case that turned out completely different from what was predicted there, Tiffany Tehan. Her leaving on her own, with her own private motives, was considered to be almost beyond possibility. And we all know, or most of know, that is exactly what she did. JMO

I have a few 'problems' concerning VM's situation in California:

1. What on earth was he doing shaving near a school/place for young children?

2. What on earth is the comment about "a third world" all about?

3. I find it odd that shortly after the California incident he and his wife seemed to run off to Canada!

:moo:

------------------

ETA: Ooooops, sorry. I just read back where the VM situation was explained. That leaves me with MORE questions:

1. A mayo jar? In the heat of California? In a car?

2. And it seems that VM is playing/has played the victim card quite often.

2. What on earth is the comment about "a third world" all about?

(BBM)

The Republic of Georgia is considered part of the "third world". To what his remark was referring is a mystery. We discussed it back then and never found out. There was speculation that it wasn't his face he was shaving, but that was just speculation. We'll probably never know.

1. A mayo jar? In the heat of California? In a car?

Well, this was entered into evidence during his trial and his acquittal was based at least partially on confirming that's what it was. So, there's no disputing this fact, IMO. He had been living in his car for only a few days.

2. And it seems that VM is playing/has played the victim card quite often.

Sounds that way, but I believe the verdict in California and the psychiatrists' evaluation here in Toronto. I can see no other explanation for the stabbings here except a delusional, distraught state of mind. There seems to be no other motive and he was quite blatant in his attacks - no apparent stealthy planning or attempts at concealing what he did. In the second incident, he even voluntarily went to LE and surrendered. He pleaded guilty to all three counts. Also, I definitely believe that he is a victim in his daughter's disappearance and death. I am a parent.

Last night I made a list of all the coincidences in this case and was about to post but out of respect for Mariam decided not to.

I've always believed that one coincidence is possible but when you get a list of all that has happened in the short time the parents and Mariam and her brother were in North America, one starts to wonder if there is more to this case than meets the eye.

I don't think we'll ever know the truth. IMO

Since early 21st century visible positive developments have been observed in the economy of Georgia. In 2007 Georgia's real GDP growth rate reached 12%, making Georgia one of the fastest growing economies in Eastern Europe.[112] The World Bank dubbed Georgia "the number one economic reformer in the world" because it has in one year improved from rank 112th to 18th in terms of ease of doing business.[114] The country has a high unemployment rate of 12.6% and has fairly low median income compared to European countries.

I wouldn't necessarily say it is third world country. :moo:

Certainly VM is a victim in his daughter's death. But, there's something off in his behaviour in California and quite possibly in Georgia.

Oh, I know, Toronto Police contacted Interpol, etc. and VM came up clean.

It all does beg the question - was VM and his past a reason why Mariam left that day?

More and more, I'm leaning towards suicide in Mariam's case.

So sad for her. :rose:

Did LT know anything further about VM but remained silent? This has been niggling away at me. Did G know more about VM's actions? Why did LT follow her husband to California and leave her children behind in Georgia? Was she coerced by him? Afraid of him? Did he display personality disorders even before they went to California? Did VM simply wake up one day and start to exhibit unusual behaviours?

Too many questions here.

It's open to interpretation.

The term Third World arose during the Cold War to define countries that remained non-aligned with either capitalism and NATO (which along with its allies represented the First World), or communism and the Soviet Union (which along with its allies represented the Second World). This definition provided a way of broadly categorizing the nations of the earth into three groups based on social, political, and economic divisions.

Due to the complex history of evolving meanings and contexts, there is no clear or agreed upon definition of the Third World

Interesting politics, MM is even mentioned....
http://www.messenger.com.ge/issues/2569_march_20_2012/2569_leka.html
" On March 21, there will be a political consultation between the Georgian and Latvian Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Tbilisi, where they will discuss both bilateral and general cooperation on issues related to external challenges, on which there will be joint plans formed.

During the briefing, Kalandadze also spoke about Mariam Makhniashvili, the Georgian girl who was found dead in Canada last week. The Georgian Embassy is actively involved in her case and the Ministry hopes there will be additional information regarding the current investigation.

According to Russian television news, there are rumors that another independent state may form in Georgia. Media reports claim that ethnically Armenian residents in Javakheti want to form their own state. They are concerned that Georgia joining NATO would bring the country closer to Turkey, and further away from Armenia. "

Jailed father of Mariam Makhniashvili not allowed to attend funeral
Published 28 minutes ago
The family’s lawyer, Calvin Barry, said permission was denied by the prison warden. Barry said the warden was relying on psychiatric reports filed at Makhniashvili’s hearing, and felt there was a risk in letting Makhniashvili attend a public funeral.

Vakhtang Makhniashvili's wife, Lela Tabidze, when asked if she wished her husband could be at the funeral, said emphatically, “Of course. He should be there.”

:rose: Just read on Twitter that many students from FHCI are preparing to attend Mariam's funeral.

The flag is flying at half mast.....

God Bless Mariam on her voyage home. :rose:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2012/03/23/toronto-makhniashvili-funeral.html

"
Though Makhniashvili's classmates have long graduated, she says the school has a special bond with the girl whose story captured national attention."

"This young woman who went missing really was embraced by this city, in terms of the care and concern and worry and so on," Aitchison said.

"I think it speaks a lot to our collective humanity in this country that someone who is a stranger to the country, to people, that so many people in the country... cared about her and wanted the best outcome for her," she said."

What information has surfaced to suspect something was wrong in Georgia??? Is there something you KNOW or are you speculating? Apologies if I sound frustrated. But -- Mr. M. was ACQUITTED of the California charges. He was found to be innocent. (And, yes, I'm not so naive that I don't realize guilty people often go free.). But this is a man who had NO violent record before his daughter's disappearance. His PSYCHIATRISTS (unlike most of us here who have NO professional training in psychology or psychiatric illnesses) have determined that he suffers from a form of PTSD and pathological delusion brought ON by the disappearance of his daughter. He is suffering from trauma. He still has to account for his crimes. And while I understand that the purpose of websleuths is to posit a number of possible theories and perhaps unconventional interpretations, I just find it overwhelming that it is so easy to cast aspersion on this man who has suffered beyond imagination already. I hope you don't think I am disrespectful to you, NSU, or toi any of the posters, because I know we all have the same intention -- hope for justice or, at least, understanding in mariam's case. But this man and his family have been through enormous trial. And it is somewhat easy, in our protected and anonymous identities, to make insinuations that can be devestating psychologically to families. This man must account for his crimes -- but he also deserves our compassion!

What information has surfaced to suspect something was wrong in Georgia???NOTHING - it's merely MY OWN gut feeling. Is there something you KNOW or are you speculating?Speculating; thinking out loud. Apologies if I sound frustrated. But -- Mr. M. was ACQUITTED of the California charges. He was found to be innocent. (And, yes, I'm not so naive that I don't realize guilty people often go free.).I realise that he was set free in California. I work with disturbed young people and I suppose I am a bit biased because there OFTEN, not always, is a family connection to the disturbances of the teens. He is suffering from trauma.I CLEARLY understand that. And I FIRMLY believe that the psychiatrists here in Toronto have diagnosed him perfectly. My BIGGEST concern is WHAT HAPPENED PRIOR TO COMING TO CANADA FROM CALIFORNIA! Many apologies that you are so upset by my posts regarding Mr. M. That said, I DO work with medical people for the young people I am involved with in my work and I DO have a knowledge of trauma, PTSD, acting out, etc. THAT isn't my query here - I was merely asking/suggesting that BEFORE COMING TO CANADA (BOTH FROM CALIFORNIA & GEORGIA) PERHAPS THERE WAS AN UNDERLYING CONDITION WITH MR. M. This man must account for his crimes -- but he also deserves our compassion!

Mr. M does have my thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry he won't be able to attend the funeral. I AM a compassionate person. I only was hoping to get to the bottom of the Mariam story/history/family life.......no doubt, mainly because of my work with disturbed young men and women. The young people in my work are:

1. in youth jails (with psychiatrists)

2. some have attempted suicide.....many times (psychiatric problems)

3. some are being treated at various psychiatric hospitals in the Toronto area(obviously, with psychiatrists)

4. some have witnessed horrific events at home (and are referred to psychiatrists)

5. the list is quite extensive......(with psychiatric involvement)

Sorry I caused you so much upset.

(My responses are contained WITHIN the quote itself).

Perhaps it's time I left the Mariam case alone now. My intention was certainly NOT to cause upset to anyone. Sometimes, uncovering the truth/facts is an arduous process.

Sending blessings/compassion to Mr. M and to the entire M family at this time.

--------------------

ETA: This is the part of my post which was left unquoted. This is where I posed my questions about the past history (psychiatric):

More and more, I'm leaning towards suicide in Mariam's case.

So sad for her. :rose:

Did LT know anything further about VM but remained silent? This has been niggling away at me. Did G know more about VM's actions? Why did LT follow her husband to California and leave her children behind in Georgia? Was she coerced by him? Afraid of him? Did he display personality disorders even before they went to California? Did VM simply wake up one day and start to exhibit unusual behaviours?

Too many questions here.

And I don't really see how these questions are lacking in compassion for anyone - least of all MARIAM.

God Bless her........:rose:
