Makhniashvili’s mother thanks public ahead of Mariam’s funeral
Mariam Makhniashvili’s mother issued a statement Friday, thanking the community for its support during the search for her missing daughter and since her remains were discovered in a wooded area last month.

“It's been a long journey for my family on the way of finding our beloved daughter and sister Mariam. But I feel we were not alone in this exhausting search and had emotional support from the community, school and first of all authorities and media. We are very grateful for that,”
Lela Tabidze said in a statement to CityNews on Friday.

“Now that we have our daughter come home we found some peace. And again we have your full support and sympathy to go through such a devastating pain. Thank you all for caring for our Marika.”

Mourners pay tribute to Toronto teen Makhniashvili

li-620-mariamm-cp02379720.jpg

A woman pays her respects at the visitation for Mariam Makhniashvili in Toronto on Friday.
Makhniashvili had been in Toronto only three months, and in school only four days, when she went missing on Sept. 14, 2009
Mourners gathered Friday at a Toronto funeral home to pay their final respects to Mariam Makhniashvili, the Toronto teen whose remains were discovered last month after she had been missing for 2½ years.

Friday's gathering was for members of the public and comes ahead of a more private family service set for Saturday afternoon.

Messages of sympathy are being collected in a book at Forest Hill Collegiate, where the 17-year-old went to school briefly before her disappearance in 2009.
...........................

Makhniashvili's father, Vakhtang Makhniashvili, has been denied permission to attend the funeral, but his lawyer says he is fighting the decision.

We may never know the truth of what happened to you, dear Mariam but I hope you have a peaceful rest up above in heaven. Give Tori Stafford a big hug and tell her how much her family and even people like me who have never met her, miss her and that Justice for her is coming real soon.

Amen. RIP Mariam. :rose: :rose:

rest in peace, Mariam.

And -- NSU: I think the wording in my last post was a little strong; I'm sorry for that. Although I feel what I wrote deeply, I'll be sure to word my posts in future more gently
;0

I know we're all pretty much on these forums for exactly the same purposes, and that we work together as a community to make a difference.

I understand completely. This case (and many others, of course) is terribly upsetting to all of us here at WS. We're only human afterall, and being upset is part of the human condition.

May Mariam now rest peacefully and be free from any emotional pain she experienced on this earth. :rose: God bless all who suffer......

Mariam's final voyage:

A private funeral service is underway for a Toronto teen who disappeared on her way to school in 2009.

Family members and students from Mariam Makhniashvili's school have gathered to pay tribute to the girl whose story captured national attention.

Rev. Jim McKnight says the search for Ms. Makhniashvili “seemed to draw the people of Toronto together quite closely.”

More compassion for Mariam coming in:

http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120324/120324_Funeral_Mariam/20120324/?hub=CP24Home

"She was a very happy young girl, by the sounds of it, with many interests, be it literature, be it music," said Chris Parkin, a physical education teacher at Forest Hill Collegiate, where Makhniashivili briefly attended.

"It was just nice, I think, for everyone and many of us who did not really know her to hear about that happy childhood," he said after the service.

"I think there's a sense with a lot of people that there's some closure ... so there's a certain amount of relief with that."

From NSU link above.http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120324/120324_Funeral_Mariam/20120324/?hub=CP24Home
"Students from Makhniashvili's school said that though they didn't know her well, they felt a special bond with the girl whose story captured national attention.

"She's a part of our school, so she's a part of us," said one student who sang at the ceremony.

Another student, Irving Castro, said Makhniashvili has left her mark on the school even though her stay there was fleeting.

The service "was a little emotional, but we managed to get through," he said afterward."

"She was a little girl who went for walks in the country in Georgia and returned with her arms so laden with flowers, twigs, rocks and other items that caught her eye that she could barely hold them all.

“At home in Georgia when there were blackouts, when lights went out at seven in the evening, candles would be lit and the coffee table cleared off and rehearsals would be had and Mariam would come out and ascend the coffee table stage, and sing her little heart out,” said McKnight. “She’d be followed by her little brother George.”

What a shame - Mariam was obviously very happy in Georgia.:rose:

More from dotr's link:

The girl who gave her grandmother injections when she was sick.

The girl who loved to sing, whose family called her Marika.

The girl who taught herself to read, but more than anything else liked to listen, with her brother George, to tales made up by her father Vakhtang.

Her father was not at the funeral. He is serving six years in prison for stabbing three people a year after Mariam’s disappearance. His request for a pass to attend the funeral was denied.

The entire situation is still begging the question - what happened?

Still many questions about VM:

1. Why was he not allowed to attend his daughter's funeral? (In spite of his psychiatric condition).

2. What don't we still fully know about what happened in both California and in Georgia?

3. What drove Mariam to take her life?

Many, many questions still linger........ This entire picture isn't sitting well with me. Perhaps no one will ever know.........:moo:

*I know this post will cause some upset to some posters here. Please refrain from lashing out at this post of questions. Also, please know that my intention is to get to the bottom of Mariam's life as it pertains to VM. Finally, I do have compassion for VM.* :tyou:

I don't feel Mariam's death was suicide. I don't want to belabour my old theory, but I had previously suggested a possible link between Mariam's case and Russ Williams. Mariam was found on a golf course just a touch northeast of where the CF College is on Yonge Blvd (a bit south of Earl Bales Park)

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - OPP charge Col. Williams with 82 additional charges

Well, i guess i am belabouring my old theory ;)

I'm still not convinced it's a suicide either but didn't RW's crimes involve home invasions and that's how he got to his victims?

Don't know they would be categorized as home invasions, but in Jessica's case, he removed her from her home, took her to his cottage, and subsequently disposed of her body.

Just a lot of coinkydinks:

Dragon boat races (sponsored in part by the H&S Fdtn)
Air Show took place a week prior to Mariam's disappearance
Air Show involved military VIPs with VIP guest enclosure at Marilyn Bell Park
Mariam marshalled at dragon boat races the following weekend at Marilyn Bell Park
RW's date/time re his Sept 14 Alert Bay trip differed from date recorded by Quinte West Mayor John Williams
RW was known to attend courses at CFC in Toronto

Now the coincidence of where Mariam's body was in fact found

Dunno, but will revisit my past posts and think on it more
