The search started on Monday after Kozak didn't show up for work in the morning.

Police said Ferrier was last seen at work in Forestburg on Friday. Ferrier was last seen in Galahad the same day.

The two have been known to use the Mount Edith Cavell Road trails over the summer.

Their Hyundai Kona was located in the parking lot near the trails, RCMP said in a news release Monday evening.''

"The couple have often gone to Mount Edith Cavell Road trails and their Hyundai Kona vehicle was located in a parking lot at this location" Killam RCMP request public assistance in locating missing couple

It sounds like no tent was found in the vehicle.

You're supposed to register and get a permit to camp anywhere in Jasper. Also, aside from the big drive-in campgrounds, the backcountry sites are a strenuous hike in, needing backpacks, extra food, etc.

People do boondock: tent close by or sleep in the car, in a location like where they parked, and the hostel there is closed so no one might notice.

It was cold over the last few days, freezing at night. Hope they're found okay.

Here is a map showing the location of the parking lot. If you follow the link, you can see the trail they are thought to be on. If I had zoomed out, the trail disappears:

The disappearance of this couple is very concerning. Also in this report Matthew was known to be missing only because he didn’t show up for work on Monday. Thankfully his employer must’ve been concerned enough not to let it slide as the couple hadn’t told anyone of their plans - might’ve been a day hike or overnight Saturday. Hoping they’re found very soon, safe and sound. Fortunately the heavy smoke from the forest fires in the US has finally cleared.

“.....Kozak's brother Michael and his father drove to Jasper from Saskatoon on Tuesday morning to join the search.

A search party is scouring trails near Mount Edith Cavell. Members of the search party have heard from hikers who recognized the two on the trails on Saturday, Michael Kozak said.

"We got some information of what [Matthew] was wearing, but not a lot of information," he said. "But at least we got some information now." ......

....."I wish they would have told somebody where they were going, what was going on, because it seemed like they just did a spur of the moment trip. [They were] just thinking of going for a hike and weren't expecting anything bad to happen and we're praying that's the case," he said.....”

According to one of their fb posts it seems they were 'adventurous' hikers and were not afraid to blaze their own trail. I hope they are ok.

I grew up with Matthew and his brother is a friend of mine. They definitely had gotten a little reckless with going off trail, before they went missing I would see social media posts by them and think they were being a little dangerous. I REALLY hope they are okay as this hits very close to home.

I hope they are just lost or stuck somewhere. Together is better than one alone.

Yes indeed. Her FB page has a post from 2 weeks ago where she sprained her ankle because the lost the trail on a summit attempt and continued on anyway forging their own trail only to reach the top of an unintended destination. She describes loose rock and steep ascents. Sounds scary, which she admits to, yet thrilling, which she also admits too.

Could pushing the limit successfully lead to the continuation of the same type of risk taking?

I too hope they became disoriented this time in a similar scenario and were unable to find their way back to their base camp in this instance. 3+ days and counting.

How tragic, for them and their families and friends. RIP Matthew and Zabrina, you are both gone too soon. Here is the google map of where they were located:

The article stated that Matthew and Zabrina were located in the Verdant Pass area. "“It is believed the couple [was] hiking and succumbed to their injuries after falling from a steep bank in the area,” said the news release."

Such sad news, they had so much to look forward to. What a waste.

Condolences to their family and friends.
