SASKATOON — Closure is a word that Brian Gallagher does not believe in, even if the remains of his daughter Megan are found and she is given a proper burial. All they have are memories of the times they spent with her.

Gallagher told SASKTODAY.ca that a lot of people feel they are missing a part of their lives with the disappearance of Megan, who was last seen on Sept. 21, 2020, in the 100 block of Avenue P South at around 3:30 p.m.

“I don’t even know if we will ever get closure because like I said, we will carry missing Megan for the rest of our lives. We will never hear her voice, her giggle and her laugh. We will never play catch again, since she is a good fastball softball player,” said Gallagher.

She also plays hockey and was an amazing mother. She was very social and had so many friends. All of these people are missing a part of her. So, will there be closure? I think time will tell if there will be a total closure.”

“Our family is suffering. Ashley’s family is suffering. All the families of the missing people are suffering. It just goes on and on,” added Gallagher, who joined the group leaving Saskatoon Friday morning.

Monday is the second anniversary of Megan Gallagher’s disappearance. Her father Brian Gallagher says she is missed every day. “She is thought of, she is loved and she has not been forgotten.”
To honour her and to bring awareness around the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, Megan’s family has organized the second annual Megan’s Walk. It begins Sunday morning at Joe Gallagher Field in the Gordie Howe Sports Complex. There is a program at 10 and the walk begins at 10:15, and then walking to the amphitheatre at River Landing.
Megan’s family encourages everyone to wear red in support of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit Persons (MMIWG2S). The theme of the walk is “the silence is killing us”. Megan’s father Brian acknowledges that breaking the silence is working, because four people are facing charges of indignity to human remains as a direct result of people coming forward and breaking the silence.''

Human remains were found during the first day of a four-day search for Megan Gallagher on Thursday, though police have not yet confirmed the remains were those of the missing woman.

Gallagher has been missing for more than two years. A number of people are facing charges in relation to her disappearance and death, though her remains have never been found. This week, police announced an intensive search of an area of the South Saskatchewan River near the village of St. Louis.

“At approximately 2:30 p.m. today searchers on the river near the community of St. Louis located human remains,” Saskatoon police said in a written statement issued late Thursday afternoon.

Saskatoon police are asking for the public's help locating the ninth and final suspect charged in the believed death of Megan Gallagher.
Police said in a news release Wednesday that they're searching for Summer-Sky Henry, 24, who's wanted for first-degree murder in the case.
Henry also has several unrelated outstanding warrants, including for unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, robbery, and other gun and drug charges.''

''Police continue to search for 24-year-old Summer-Sky Henry who is also wanted for first-degree murder.

The others who were arrested face charges including indignity to human remains, assault and unlawful confinement.

Gallagher was 30 when she disappeared. Since then her family has distributed posters throughout Saskatoon and raised a billboard asking for information. They’ve also held vigils.

Her father, Brian Gallagher, said in a news release from Métis Nation-Saskatchewan earlier this year that it has been a struggle not to have answers about where his daughter is.''

''Ernest Whitehead, another individual charged in Gallagher’s death, told police he saw Gallagher tied to a chair and saw her taken to a back room at the garage where she was killed. He claimed he was not present at the time of her death.

According to the agreed-upon facts, witnesses also claimed to have seen Gallagher dead with a plastic bag over her head.

The statement of facts revealed that Badger and another person asked Sanderson to help dispose of Gallagher’s body.

Badger paid Sanderson to dispose of Gallagher’s body, the court heard – a $120 e-transfer from Badger was found on Sanderson’s bank records.

Whitehead and Sanderson wrapped Gallagher’s body in a tarp and drove with her body in a truck to the Gabriel Dumont Bridge, the court heard. The two were going to dispose of Gallagher’s body there until they were spooked by a car driving past.

The pair then drove to the St. Louis Bridge south of Prince Albert, the court heard, and dumped Gallagher’s body over the side.

Gallagher’s remains were not located until Sept. 29, 2022. Forty days later, the identity of her remains was confirmed through forensic work and DNA testing.

A dozen victim impact statements were read at in the courtroom on Wednesday, and sniffles could be heard throughout the room.''

Ws Thread for Mackenzie..

''The father of a Metis woman whose remains were discovered last year organized a Saskatoon walk in her memory to call attention missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) on Sunday.

Megan Gallagher, 30, had been missing since Sept. 19, 2020.

Brian Gallagher, her father, said people with missing loved ones go through a "special kind of hell."

He's committed to raising awareness about the issue. In the past, he organized walks asking people to come forward with information about Megan Gallagher's disappearance.

He said although his daughter was found, his message remains the same: the silence is killing us. And he encouraged people with information about those missing to come forward.

"It might be one little piece of a thread that you may think is insignificant, but it might make all the world of a difference to some families that are living this," Brian Gallagher said.''

Krista Fox, a MMIWG advocate, brought posters of about a half-dozen other people who are or were missing to the event.''

“A brief preliminary hearing was held in Saskatoon provincial court this week for Roderick William Sutherland. The 42-year-old is charged with first-degree murder and offering an indignity to human remains.
He is one of nine people accused in Gallagher’s death on Sept. 20, 2020. Her remains were found two years later, on Sept. 29, 2022, on the bank of the South Saskatchewan River near St. Louis.”

A trial begins Monday morning at Saskatoon Court of King's Bench for two women charged with first-degree murder in the 2020 death of Megan Gallagher.

Summer Sky-Henry and Cheyann Peeteetuce are both charged with first-degree murder. They have pleaded not guilty.

Gallagher, 30, was last seen alive leaving her friend's house on Sept. 19, 2020. She was captured on a surveillance video at a convenience store in Saskatoon the next day

In addition to Sky-Henry, Peeteetuce, Thomas and Roderick Sutherland, five others were charged in connection with Gallagher's death:
  • Thomas Sutherland is charged with manslaughter.
  • Ernest Vernon Whitehead, 41, was sentenced to 739 days in jail in May 2023 on a charge of indignity to human remains.
  • Jessica Badger (Sutherland), 44, was given a conditional sentence order of two years less a day on the same charge, which means she serves it in the community. After that, she will be on probation for 18 months.
  • John Wayne Sanderson pleaded guilty in 2023 to the same charge, and was sentenced to 1,096 days, minus 327 days for pre-sentence custody.
  • Robin John was charged with unlawful confinement and aggravated assault, but the charge was stayed last fall

Justice Richard Danyliuk asked the lawyers to turn in their chairs and look at the gallery.

"Make eye contact with some of the members of the gallery. These are the people we serve," Danyliuk said.

"The justice system doesn't exist for us — the lawyers and the judges. It exists for them ... It exists for the people of Saskatchewan and Canada."
