According to this timeline, one of the two classmates she spoke to at 11:59 am said she might have two devices.

According to Wiki there was a Signal app at the time, but only for iOS. I'm not sure if it has ever been said what type of phone Mekayla had, but I assume it was an older Android if she was actually taking it apart to change the SIM or whatever it was she did at the Tim Hortons.
Thank you for supplying the source!

There is a shuttle to Regina from Yorkton but she would have just missed it as it left at 10am.

Someone knows something about this case, I find it weird that nobody saw her after leaving the bus depot

Was there bus schedule posted for Saskatchewan Transit Company (STC) routes to compare arrivals and departures between 1-2 pm? The info is hard to track down since STC Shut down May 2017.

Google search brings up summary that buses from Regina and Saskatoon arrived mid day.

If the bus to Regina was departing Yorkton at 10am, it doesn’t look like MB was planning to take that bus.
In the timeline pieced together from CCTV footage, Mekayla Bali arrived at the Trail Stop Restaurant in the STC Bus Depot in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, around 12:00 p.m. to 12:15 p.m. on April 12, 2016. She purchased a meal (poutine), stayed there for over an hour, and was last seen in the vicinity of the restaurant at approximately 1:45 p.m.

Hopefully the schedules from April 2016 were saved and shared.

Were the private shuttles operating in 2016? I would hope by now LE looked info that to determine if MB left Yorkton using a shuttle service instead.

The way Mekayla was acting in the day she went missing really seems like she was meeting up with someone. I'm sure her Internet activity in the days/weeks/months leading up to her disappearance has been exhausted by this point but the footage we have of her on the day she went missing has all the telltale signs of looking for someone she has planned a meeting with and waiting for them to arrive.

I know back around the time she disappeared is when all the free dating sites were picking up steam and they were notorious for having a hook-up culture. You technically had to be 18 to use them but I'm sure there were tons of underage kids on there as all you would have to do is put a fake birthday down.

It’s hard to tell, from watching her walk and talk on the phone she didn’t look particularly nervous or excited so it makes me wonder if she was waiting for someone she knew from school or locally.

Did anyone ever explore whether MB had some sort of job that paid cash? The talk of going away, having 5,000, trying to pawn silver rings, asking a woman to help her rent a hotel room. It may not have been dating related. Perhaps trying to sell belongings? Her friends said MB carried a purse most days not the backpack. Her mom said if she was planning to go away she would not have left her makeup and meds behind.

It’s awful that she has not been found. I do hope the truth comes out.

It kinds of reads as though maybe she was the one trying to help someone out (pawning rings, renting a hotel room etc). I wonder if she met someone who was in serious trouble and she got lured into danger?

It would be interesting to read about other missing persons reports within the area around the same time to see if the stories could match somehow...just a thought

I hope this angle has been looked into. Being talked into helping someone in trouble is a possibility too.
I recall from this article how MB was described by a longterm friend:
“She was caring, loved music, [and] she was very conscious about what her needs and her friends needs were,”

Ten years ago already! I can’t believe it!

Is it foolish to hope that we’ll get a Cleveland miracle here in Saskatchewan and that she’ll eventually be found alive like Amanda Berry, Gina Dejesus and Michelle Knight were?

While you can never say never but that case was likely a 1 in a million situation. 99% of the time in these situations they are usually killed within a day or two. Most of the time they are killed as soon as the individual is done raping them. It's far easier for these individuals to just find new victims then to successfully keep a slave for years and years. The reason they are such huge stories when they do happen is because they happen so rarely.

From what I read, they got the connections through her Telus phone account, but it could not tell them what any text messages said. Her friends from school said she had 2 phones. LE believed IIRC, she may have been texting/messaging via an app. They say getting access to the app messages is extremely difficult as they are USA.

Yes, Manitoba is a large open area. I think locals may have done a search of their own properties (may have read that somewhere).
Wish I could edit. I meant to say Saskatchewan has large open areas. (Was thinking too hard about a Winnipeg case.)

It’s hard to understand why the app companies didn’t provide much help when it came to a missing teen. 10 month delay and no records of incoming or outgoing calls.

I hope the truth comes out.

Yeah, I just don't see a teenage girl going through the effort to do all of those things for a rendezvous or elaborate scheme of some sort, but I think it could be plausible that she was talking with someone who may have needed her help. I believe she also texted a friend saying she needs help?

If it was some older person she may have wanted to impress them or maybe get them to like her; but whatever it was it could have led to her disappearance.

Romance scams is definitely something gullible individuals fall for online. However they don't usually go missing in those situations. They just fall for a good looking picture asking them to give money.

Something that has stayed on my mind, Mekayla Bali’s maternal grandfather died in March 2016, about one month before she disappeared.

Could this have been some type of trigger? His obituary NIEBERGALL - Gerald Paul

CTV Regina: It’s been a decade since Yorkton teen Mekayla Bali disappeared, with RCMP still actively investigating the case.
Apr 12, 2026 rbbm.
''The Yorkton teen was 16 when she vanished from the city's bus depot, 173 km northeast of Regina. Her mother, Paula Bali, says that April 12, 2016, at 1:47 p.m. CST was the last time their family ever knew where she was.

"You can't live a full life looking for someone," Paula said.
"We never imagined in our lifetime that this could happen to someone we love. And that we still continue to have no answers 10 years later is absolutely mind-boggling and devastating," she said.

According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, police have received and investigated more than 1,000 tips about the case over the last decade. But Mekayla — who would be 26 now — is still considered a missing person and both police and her family are appealing to the public for information.

Her mom says their family has never given up the hope of finding her and they "desperately need" the public's help to do so.''
''I continue to believe that we can have a positive recovery, that perhaps she's alive somewhere," Paula said''.

'Surveillance footage shows her entering Sacred Heart High School at around 8:20 a.m. but leaving shortly after. Approximately half an hour later, she entered Terry’s Pawn and Bargain shop on 3rd Avenue North. After being unsuccessful at pawning a silver ring, she went to a nearby TD Bank, and then to a Tim Hortons on Yorkton’s Broadway Avenue East.'

'Surveillance footage shows her entering and leaving Tim Hortons several times. Inside, she appeared to take apart and reassemble her cellphone, as well as make phone calls. Her telephone provider, Telus, had no records of those calls.

In 2019, Bali’s friend Amy Liang told CTV News that Bali was using a messaging app called Kik, which does not track conversations like most phone carriers and only identifies users through a username.'

'Over the years, the search for the missing teen has taken the family to Vancouver, B.C., the United States, and overseas.'

''At the time of her disappearance, Bali was described as five feet two inches tall and 115 pounds. She had blonde hair and blue eyes and sometimes wore glasses. She was known to dye her hair other colours and also went by her grandmother’s last name, Niebergall.

Mekayla Bali would now be 26-years-old.''
