GUILTY Canada - Melinda Vasilije, 22, stabbed to death 47 times, Kitchener, 28 April 2017 *Arrest*

  • #101
Suspect in fatal stabbing of Melinda Vasilije has been in contact with police

"We have had some interaction with Mr. Hasan, who we believe is in the United States of America right now. Most recently, we spoke to him yesterday and with the encouragement to turn himself in to U.S. authorities," Insp. Michael Haffner told CBC News Thursday.

Haffner said he could not disclose the nature of the communication between Hasan and the investigators, or confirm whether Hasan called police.

"At this point, we're at a bit of a standstill until he does turn himself in, so we're asking anyone who may have any contact with Mr. Hasan to really encourage him to turn himself in."

[...]

As part of the ongoing investigation, Haffner said investigators are working on a social media campaign, which is expected to be rolled out next week.

It will have elements that can be easily shared by other police forces across Canada and the U.S.

The goal of the campaign will be "to get Mr. Hasan's picture out there, to make it known that we are actively pursing his whereabouts and actively trying to locate him," Haffner said.

Pretty sure some real intense media at the beginning (from media outlets on both sides of the border), including a plea by Melinda's family, might have accomplished the same thing. Still don't understand why more of a big deal was not made right away of this fugitive crossing the border and hiding out in the US?

That's new info I believe. Although I mentioned quite a while ago that according to his IG, that he has since deleted, he has family in Nashville. So perhaps he headed there first before moving on? I think the early Reddit rumours were that he was heading to Mexico. Not sure if I believe that or if that rumour is/was being floated by him or other people trying to help him stay underground in the US.

I wonder what conversation he had with LE when they were in contact with him? I think he's a fool if he keeps running like this. He will be caught and he will be returned to Canada. He will not be given any leniency in sentencing if he continues to try to flee and not take responsibility for what happened to Melinda. He really had a chance at a minimum charge and sentence, now I'm not so sure.

Selfish 🤬🤬🤬.

Considering that he has family in Tennessee and it only takes 11hrs to drive from Kitchener to Nashville, and he was still there almost a month after fleeing, I can't believe LE didn't pass on the info of his Nashville connection to their counterparts in the US. I wonder who said they saw him in Hurricane Mills? Or if it's from a video?

Whoever is/has been harbouring him should also be charged.

I wonder who saw him as well. Was it some random stranger that then saw a media blast on Ager being wanted? I can't really believe this guy still isn't caught. I really thought LE would have captured him within days.

Yeah, like a Canadian born Kurd, probably spoiled rotten by his parents (I don't see his mother in the media pleading for him to return to face his charge or to bring back her car), isn't going to stand out in Mexico...or Texas for that matter.

I doubt he's going to head anywhere near Mexico. What on earth would he do there for a living. I doubt he speaks a word of Spanish and I don't think he's the "hard labourer" type (do we know if he even had a job before he killed MV?). If he thinks he's going to work for a Mexican drug cartel...well good luck to him. My guess is that he probably won't leave Tennessee if he's been able to have a support system there to help him out for the past month. He'll just lay low for a while to avoid LE and keep putting out rumours, via "pals" that he's in Mexico.

i wonder if the judge will take into account the fact that he likely has been helping his brother stay on the run when sentencing Ager's brother today for his own criminal acts. Police have stated that he was in contact with family after going on the run.

There is some information in the article about the family. Not sure why I thought I read that Ager was born in Canada. :waitasec:

Is this his older brother? Maybe Ager was born here once they came. Who knows.
I'm so sick knowing this guy is out there. Idk I just don't think this will have any resolution anytime soon.
What about the big media push in the USA? I didn't see anything.

No this would be his younger brother. He would be about 22 now, Ager is 24. So I guess Ager supposedly experienced the same "trauma" in his life that his brother did, including domestic violence. Explains a lot really.

Maybe we won't hear about him again until he assaults or kills his next girlfriend? I think LE in both countries really should have stepped up the effort to find him before that happens.

I wonder if he has ties to Turkey or Iran still and I wonder how hard it would be to get there via Mexico.

The family is actually from Iraq (likely Duhok based on social media) and supposedly fled to Turkey sometime between 1995 and 2001 where they lived as refugees before immigrating to Canada around 2001.
