Wonder when his last tour of duty was seeing as he is 50? is PTSD curable?

Some therapists claim to have had great success with treating PTSD patients with a therapy called 'VI' or (Virtual Iraq), which uses a Virtual Reality scenario that recreates the events which led to the PTSD, and as the individual relives it, the therapist helps them learn coping techniques to desensitize them to the event.

Others use drug therapies to help individuals cope with the anxieties and fears, but many complain these drugs cause other problems that impair every day living.

There is no cure. There is only coping techniques. Support groups and counseling seem to help with teaching the affected individual coping techniques, but that is it. For some people, the PTSD becomes less and less prevalent as they learn how to cope and deal with daily situations, for others, it never lessens.

As to when he was last deployed, I heard somewhere he was currently on medical leave due to the PTSD, can't remember where I heard that. But in his CBC interview didn't he say that people would tell them they were in the 'honeymoon' stage of their marriage for the first 3 or 4 years due to him being deployed, going away for half a year, coming back, then being deployed again, etc? If so, it sounds to me that we could guess his last deployment was around 4 years ago, as they have been married for 8 years.

I thought maybe I would try to explain how the SCA works in an allegorical sense for those of you who know nothing about it. It's been difficult trying to think of an example that completely works, as nothing 'really' fits, but I'm going to try.

It's like being part of a bowling league. Lets say every Friday, the league gets together at one particular bowling place, and everyone bowls. You get to know the members of your team quite well, you are often a bunch of friends who put the team together. You get to know the members of the other teams because they all come to the same place, every Friday night, and you interact with them.

However, lets say your bowling team has decided to become really good at bowling, so you've decided that on every Tuesday, just your team is going to practise by going to either the same bowling place, or another one more convienent to you, and bowling. Afterwards, you probably head to the bar, unwind and have a couple of beers or so before going home, or you head to a gathering place like a favourite restaurant or coffee shop to hang out, talk bowling, and unwind.

Also, lets say that someone gets it in their head that your bowling team should have specialized shirts, and maybe you should make your own bowling shoes, or bowling balls. So now, your team gets together on Sundays as well to work on the shirt design, and on Thursdays to work on making the bowling balls and on Wednesdays to work on making the shoes.

Well, now you and your team are spending almost every evening together anyway, so what the heck, it's Saturday, why don't we all just get together and go to a movie, or for a beer, etc. We can talk about bowling!

Main difference is the 'team' isn't 4 to 6 people, it is 15 or 20 (your local group), and the league is made up of people from all over the Province, and where they 'bowl' moves around throughout the Province almost every Saturday.

I get the feeling the majority of things that took place in their local group took place at H&M's house, therefore calling it, as a joke, the 'flophouse'.

Bakergurl, can't find your original post, but were you on the page when it started to go south? Where there really nasty comments being posted to the page or was it just people expressing disbelief and/or trying to offer suppositions of what happened?

I didn't get to see any of those 'nasty' comments if there were any. I got told HR had been arrested, logged into Facebook to take a look at the page, and saw references to 'nasty' comments and people saying 'oh no, admins, take this stuff down!', but I didn't actually see anything nasty being posted. Next thing I knew, the page went from being open, to closed, then people were being removed, and it was deleted within a few hours.

I was shocked. Especially since I didn't see anything nasty at all.

Chesterville is where police closed off a road and searched for evidence.

What I find strange about the positioning of all of this, is the fact that, from what I understand, the road most chosen by MR to go to South Keyes, a place her and HR went often to hang out, as many of their close friends lived in South Keyes, would be the road to the west of the house, heading north directly into Bank Street, where the South Keyes mall is located. It would make no sense to leave the house and head east.

However, as there is no 'activity' listed on the group calendar for that Wednesday night, it is possible that HR and MR were coming back from a gathering in Cornwall, where a few of the groups members live and some activities take place, as the group is listed as being based in Cornwall. If this is indeed where they were that evening, then they would have gone through Chesterville on the way home, which changes the possibility that MR and HR actually did make it home that night, and she did leave the house on her own, and maybe he followed.

Thanks. I thought it was probably the Chesterville area ... where the road was closed while police searched for evidence.

I was wondering if any of the locals knew what the names of those roads were. I want to see where that intersection is in relationship to the Richmond house, any gas stations and where Melissa was found.

I'm trying to figure out what route LE thinks Harold took on his way home.

That page went South in a real hurry. People were questioning the situation and people were getting upset defending Howard. They were talking about the PTSD and people who had been thorough it were describing it and the Howard supporters were having none of it. It was strange.

Lots of attacks on armchair sleuthers on that site and news article comments, also.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

It doesn't matter. Many fine WSers in this group. :blowkiss:

Ummm, Joe, it's Howard, not Harold.

I am not BG, but did happen to be on the group at the time.

I can assure you from what I read, there was sweet diddly on there for nasty comments. I have seen positively HORRIFIC things posted on FBI groups in these types of cases. Those admins have no idea.

What I find astounding is that so many were so quick to defend HR when clearly his wife has been heinously murdered. Canadian LE is not perfect, but, surely Melissa's friends have some sort of belief in them?

Then again, from the little I have read, there is a strong anti-government sentiment about.

So basically, they were taking offense to posts like the ones on here? And calling those nasty? Must have been a knee jerk shocked reaction to the news, because nothing here seems nasty at all.

Any locals know where this picture would have been taken and where in relationship to this picture was Melissa's car found, where there might be a gas station that the couple might have been seen on video surveillance at the night she went missing/murdered, where in relationship to this picture is the house called Greyskull?

In the picture below it looks to me like the police officers might be retracing the path taken by Harold possibly on his walk back to his truck or his drive back to their house. The police are no doubt looking for evidence that might have been dropped while walking or thrown from a vehicle.

I think the video from the gas station showing both Melissa and Harold in separate vehicles played a major role in solving this crime. The video likely placed Harold at the gas station which contradicted what he told the police by saying he and Melissa were both at home at that time or that he was home and Melissa had left on her drive. When in fact he was not.

The video might show that Harold left his truck at the gas station and later returned on foot, it might show an argument between the couple or perhaps show that they both drove away and in what direction they left (not towards their home).

Great catch, Joe.

Video I linked upturned did indicate LE was searching for the murder weapon on that road in Chesterville. Early in the case, I might add.

My guess is LE has an eyewitness, video or ping info placing HR in that area for an extended time.

Has anyone dug up the cell towers in the area yet?

I also saw no nasty writings on the FB wall. Just people like me who like to discuss all aspects of a crime or mystery. They got shot down in a hurry. Things like don't post these things because Howard may not have done it.

ITA with Wondergirl that they said they loved Melissa so much but had no anger towards the person who put her in that position.

I have been lurking around WS's since the Scott Peterson trial and have never found posters to be as close minded as that FB page.
Which is why I have been wanting to comment about the family friend who spent quite some time in front of the cameras. On the FB page she kept stating Melissa was her daughter but then it was foster daughter and then daughter in their role playing community. I think it confused some on the page.

What people don't understand is when these FB pages come about for help. They work wonderfully but when things are somewhat resolved and people who have been involved like to know details they get accused of invading privacy.
Do you guys remember the woman from Ottawa that went missing in LA? They used FB and Twitter, when she was located people asked what happened and how did that situation come about. They absolutely got nasty with those posters and called them insensitive and intrusive. When a poster mentioned asking for help and then tossing people out after their purpose was done got the group shut down.
Sad how close minded some are.

I guess so. I didn't see a single offensive post. I have seen things so vile in these types of cases, I have almost lost faith in the kindness of mankind.

More offensive comments by the "friends" to be honest.

The PTSD poet soldier with 24 years in the service sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Does it? Soldiers with (or without) PTSD have a long history of poetry. Think Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. Poetry, writing and art have all been used to encourage mentally and physically wounded soldiers to express themselves. There's some on this site http://www.anothersource.org/shattered_1.html

In my opinion PTSD is a red herring in this case. JMO

ETA: I seen the photo on an article. I did a Google image search to re-find the photo and was wondering where in area in the photo is in relationship to where her body was found, the house is located and any gas stations.

I'm not a local, but I used contextual clues to find where the pic was taken on Google Street View. (Wanted to do some actual sleuthing instead of speculating for a change.) Appears to be the intersection of Main St and Loucks Rd. in Chesterville.

http://www.standard-freeholder.com/2013/08/02/couple-may-have-had-money-problems

Court documents show Howard and Melissa Richmond may have been having money problems.

On July 15 — the week before Melissa Richmond disappeared — Scotiabank filed a lawsuit against the couple seeking full repayment of a $141,000 loan.

The bank also sought possession of a Queen St. home in Winchester, owned by Howard, which he had pledged as security against the loan.
...

Sources tell QMI that Melissa Richmond’s life was insured for a substantial amount of money.
