There was some very important information in the article used to open this thread:

Mounties looking for missing woman and her dog

. . .Police said Monica Winter was last seen on Feb. 7 leaving work on West Broadway near Alder Street in Vancouver. Her bank card was last used the same day at a grocery store shortly after 5 p.m. and her fob key was used in the parkade of her home on Gray Avenue near Wesbrook Mall on the University Endowment Lands at 6:20 p.m., according to police.

Mounties later found Winter's blue Toyota Corolla near the Fraser River Foreshore Park on Tillicum Street near Fraser Park Drive in Burnaby on Feb. 10.

"Winter's family and police are concerned for her safety and well-being. Ms. Winter's dog—Chloe—is also missing," Mounties said in a statement. . .

Here is a map of possible routes from Monica's residence in Vancouver, to where her vehicle was found in Burnaby:

I'm worried about Monica. Finding her vehicle abandoned at a river park is very troubling.

Friends of missing woman putting up posters in Burnaby to spur tips - Vancouver Is Awesome

RCMP is still asking for the public’s assistance in locating 61-year-old Monica Winter – and her friends have joined the effort to produce tips in the woman’s disappearance.

Snip

One of Winter’s friends contacted the Burnaby NOW to say that a group of friends has been putting up posters and speaking with people in the Burnaby neighbourhood where her vehicle went missing. The group has also been sending out messages on social media.

MISSING PERSON • Monica Winter • University, British Columbia • 61 Years Old
There's a comment on this report that mentions perhaps an error in her last known location. I've linked LE's official media release for reference. Can someone familiar with the area make heads and tails out of this info? TIA

RCMP in British Columbia - University RCMP seek assistance in locating missing woman

it’s just confusing because they’re referring to the area as “university” as though it’s the name of a city. the area is around UBC (university endowment lands) and perhaps it has its own RCMP detachment ?

There is no town in British Columbia named University. Both the title and the article state that incorrectly. Monica's residence was on University of British Columbia Endowment Lands. My map in Post #3 is correct, as far as I have been able to research.

I agree that the RCMP may have a detachment for the University of British Columbia. I have not seen any press releases released by the "University RCMP." I have also tried to find info from the Burnaby RCMP, without any success.

Yes, I read that when @YaYa_521 linked it in Post #6, but at the bottom of that release is this info:

"Released by
S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet
Senior Media Relations Officer
BC RCMP Communication Services
bc.rcmp.ca (English only)
14200 Green Timbers Way, Surrey, BC V3T 6P3 - Mailstop #1608"

Perhaps all branches of the RCMP in BC release their info from the main office, I'm not that familiar with the communication protocol of the RCMP. I was trying to find more info about the University branch of the RCMP, and to find the office that would be responsible for releasing any future info about Monica.

I just went to google and I was able to find the info:

"Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
Directions
3.310 Google reviews
Federal police in University Endowment Lands, British Columbia
Address: 2990 Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 2B7, Canada
Hours: Closed ⋅ Opens 8AM Mon
Phone: +1 604-224-1322
Province: British Columbia"
RCMP University branch in Vancouver - بحث Google

Then I went to Wikipedia. What I learned is that the University RCMP are separate from the Vancouver Police Department, even though they have a Vancouver address! The fact that the BC RCMP are handling this disappearance might be helpful for the investigation, as Monica's car was found in Burnaby. I checked out the BC RCMP Facebook page, and that page hasn't posted any missing persons. Updates on this case will just be found in RCMP releases, MSM, or from her FB "Find" group:

Rest in Peace Ms Winter, Prayers for comfort and peace to family and friends. Hope someone had found her little pup. Very sad ☹️

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a case of the dog having gone into the water and her attempting to retrieve it. It's sad how attached so many people get to animals.

Rest peacefully, Monica.

That's for some a very strong bond , I would probably do the same . They are together forever if that's the case.
I have a couple of pups waiting for me :)

I just found that @Darling136 had posted that Monica had been found deceased in Port Moody, and I'm just so sad. I was hoping that she was just taking a break from life. RIP Monica, and condolences to her family and friends.

I'm a bit confused about the part that she was found in Port Moody. Her car was at the Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park.

That park is on the north branch of the Fraser River, which flows west into the Stait of Georgia. I looked to find a currents chart:

https://library.wmo.int/pmb_ged/jcomm-tr_34_en/Papers/Stronach.pdf

This chart shows the currents 2 hours after high tide. I do not know what if the currents are different at other times of the day. (I had to enlarge the original diagram at the link, on page 9 of 15, in order to see the arrows around Vancouver clearly). I just don't know how Monica got to Port Moody.

I am sad to hear this. While I did not know Monica well I used to run into her as we walked our dogs in the Wesbrook Village area of UBC where we both had apartments. She was always very pleasant and lovely to talk to. Rest in peace Monica.

there's nothing sad about it but we don't know if that's what happened here anyway
