Found Deceased Canada - Norah, 11 & Romy Carpentier, 6, Quebec, 9 July 2020 *father died of suicide*

My speculation is that if this was “planned in advance” in some way, something went (very badly) wrong along the way.

- Could be the car accident itself (and/or that he was injured/hurt more than he expected if planned)

- could be that he couldn’t get back to/find the children (if injured and/or if the car crash wasn’t part of a “plan”)

- could be that whatever the next part of the putative plan was supposed to be failed to materialize for whatever reason - perhaps the car crash? & a helper/back up/accomplice for want of a better word got sidetracked by that

Or it could be that we’re all barking up the wrong tree, because the circumstances seem so mysterious possibly because we have so little official info :(.

My other speculation is that he’s dead somewhere in or near the search area, or he’s alive & long gone from it. I lean slightly towards the former.

Regarding the trailer break-in & how/why LE are so sure it was him (I don’t believe they would have announced it if they weren’t): I have a theory about that which treads a too-fine line re TOS, gossip, rumour, speculation.
Was it verified that MC's parents own wooded lots in the area where the poor angels were found?...
and where LE is searching for MC?

If so...
Could he know of some well hidden basements/storage sheds/etc. on his parents' properties?

Just some thoughts...

Looks like my queries above may be too late?

I guess finding him will make the folk of St Apollonaire feel safer...but it all also leaves so many questions unanswered.

Le corps de Martin Carpentier retrouvé

The video report mentions the exact address where he was found (by the owner), which I’m not comfortable repeating, but it’s in the original search area, on rang St-Lazare not far from where Norah & Romy were found.

The reporter says she’s “heard” he hung himself, behind the garage. No official confirmation on that.
It is said in the video that he was found about 5 km away from where his daughters were found.

BBM: I’ve not seen that verified, but I was aware of that rumour. I was wondering to myself at the time if the trailer perhaps belonged to a family member or friend. All speculation.

A member of the public told us that the owner of the residence in question had been away for a few days. It was he who made the macabre discovery upon his return. He was in shock and was quickly encountered by investigators. The address would be outside the area previously searched by the police and the various search teams.

I checked the areal view on Google Maps and the location where he was found appears to be along Rang Saint Lazare, about 1 km east of Route 273. It's on the southern border of the search area.

So did I. It’s fairly close -I think - to the area of one of the unconfirmed sightings/increased SQ activity which was filmed by bystanders & circulated on social media the weekend the girls’ bodies were discovered, area which was then over-run by volunteer searchers.

I look forward to what will be officially released over the next few days. I’m not sure that there will be comprehensive (to the general public) explanations of the whole tragic saga.

RBBM: We don’t know that he wasn’t nearby, I don’t think?
He was found about 5 km from where the girls were found (who were not next to each other btw) and 6 km from the car accident happened.

The SQ will hold a press conference this afternoon (ETA: at 2.30pm).
Twitter

TVA is reporting from “sources” that Norah & Romy died with severe head injuries (blunt force trauma?) either sustained in the car accident or from a blunt instrument.

Again according to TVA, Martin had been dead for several days when found, but time of death is difficult to establish:

If the girls died from head wounds sustained in the car accident, then they likely would not have been capable of walking for at least a kilometer from the crash site to the woods where they were found. MC probably couldn't carry both of them.

MC's coworkers state that there were no warning signs. MC allegedly joined scouts to spend time with his daughters on weeks when he didn't have custody. His boss said that MC asked to leave work early the next day (Thursday) which speaks against premeditation.

Edited: I re-read the article.

How many times do we & will we hear this sort of comment from friends, acquaintances, co-workers etc in these cases?? I.e. that everything seemed fine, he (or she) was an exemplary person, they wouldn’t have done x if y.... etc. :(. /rant.

I think it paints a picture of someone seemingly normal who did something terrible out of the blue. We're looking for a motive (or just an explanation) and we're not getting any clues yet.

Starting right now!
Collision not intentional, or deliberate (pre-planned).

After watching the press conference, everything he did after the crash is still a mystery as to why. The police believe that all three were dead by the next morning (July 9).

He left a sandal and his cellphone (I think) in the car. Witnesses saw him crossing the highway with the daughters but he was never seen afterwards. The children were found close together 2.4 km from the crash site and he was found 5.5 km from from the crash. The police visited the house behind which he was found on July 10 and 17. The owner didn't notice that a ladder was missing. The Amber alert wasn't issued earier because the family didn't believe that MC was a danger to his daughters.

Martin Carpentier and his daughters were dead the day Amber Alert was issued: police | Montreal Gazette
''Spokesperson Guy Lapointe said autopsies have confirmed that Martin Carpentier, 44, and his two daughters were all dead by July 9.

Carpentier had picked up the two girls on the evening of July 8. His car was later found damaged after an accident on Highway 20 just west of Quebec City. Police and volunteers searched for days in the area around the accident, before calling off the land search on July 18.

The collision was an accident, not intentional, Lapointe said.

“Up to that time there was nothing premeditated,” he added''

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/sq-update-martin-carpentier-news-conference-1.5658615

"The reality is, the suspect has died and there are some things we will never really know," said Lapointe.

But Lapointe said a crash on Highway 20 on the evening of July 8 seems to have been a "tipping point" for Carpentier.

Lapointe said that up until that moment, Carpentier showed no signs of violent behaviour. The accident investigation team said the crash did not appear to have been deliberate. But Carpentier left his cellphone in the car, and fled the scene with the two girls.

Police say he then broke into a trailer for some supplies. Shortly after, he killed the girls in the woods''.

The trailer was about 1.7 km away from the crash site and the girls were found some 750 m south from the trailer.

I wonder if he had a head injury that made him go crazy and kill them?
