A person was killed and the suspect is dead after multiple people were stabbed in Hollow Water First Nation on Thursday, RCMP say.

At least six people were taken to hospital, police said in a news release. RCMP will hold a news conference about the stabbings at 2 p.m. CT in Winnipeg.

Tyrone Simard, 26, from Hollow Water, about 160 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, was identified as the suspect.

Lasson said the 18-year-old woman who was killed was Simard's sister.

Simard died as he fled the community in a stolen vehicle, crashing with an RCMP vehicle around 6:50 a.m. on Provincial Road 304 near Black River First Nation, about 40 kilometres south of Hollow Water, Lasson said.
