Canada - Ontario doctor saw severely malnourished boy in care of 2 Ontario women just days before his death Dec. 21/2022- trial October 2025

In the year before they were arrested for murder (while they were on bail for charges related to abusing the surviving brother), one of the moms made a series of videos about the boy’s death. She lies about the use of restraints, takes no responsibility for his death, and says her theory about why she was arrested was that her and her wife were questioning the boy’s Indigenous heritage - she believes the CAS, police and Crown are charging them so that a publication ban would mean they couldn’t go to the media with their suspicions CAS placed non-Indigenous children in a home with one Indigenous parent.

To put it mildly, this seems…delusional. The other mom is set to testify Monday when the Crown wraps up. Just a hunch, but I don’t see it going well.

Her testimony so far has been really disturbing but also really damaging to their defence. Beyond not coming off as honest/forthcoming or sympathetic, the Crown has covered a lot of ground that really works against them - more abusive behaviour, more awful texts and a complete lack of proof for their claims that the boys were injuring them or destructive to their home.

What on earth? This child was not given any protection from these two. I think the child services people need to be charged as well.
CAS really dropped the ball with these 2 boys. So many calls, so many signs of neglect/abuse, but yet they allow them to stay with these monsters for a couple more years. CAS did absolutely nothing to protect them, shame on you all!

Someone from CAS is finally testifying. The personal and institutional failures from almost every professional involved here are astounding. Gift link: A CAS worker saw a 12-year-old boy three months before his alleged murder. What she saw left her deeply worried
Left her deeply worried……give me a break, if you were deeply worried, why would you not remove the children. These CAS workers need to be held accountable for this childs death. THEY could have prevented his death!!!

CBC also published this informative article yesterday: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/cooney-hamber-trial-9.6961836

What’s consistently jumping out at me is that while the foster moms were lining up these services, it doesn’t seem like this child could ever speak with anyone alone - they were always in the room and actively involved in the mostly virtual appointments. He didn’t go to school, and from the earlier testimony it doesn’t seem like he played outside with friends, etc. He never had a chance to speak candidly to someone who could help him.

The Crown needs to prove unlawful confinement for first degree murder here, and that confinement can be physical, psychological or both. I’m curious about how that aspect of this will factor in.
This case is making me sick…..

LL saw the Dr 8 days before his death and didn’t have him removed from these monsters, he let him go home to continue the abuse until his death.

A co-worker testified earlier on that Cooney was only in it for the money.

"Brandy Cooney’s former co-worker was so tired of listening to her complaints about the young boys she and her spouse were trying to adopt that she suggested she return them to Children’s Aid.

She was appalled by Cooney’s response.

“That was her source of income, she couldn’t give them back,” Leahann Maloney said, recounting the disturbing exchange for the Milton courtroom where Cooney and Becky Hamber are on trial for first-degree murder of a 12-year-old boy and other offences relating to his younger brother."

"That was her source of income"

I just discovered this case earlier today. Ive spent the day reading up on it. I have so many questions, Im so frustrated with the CAS system, the family doctor and the therapist. Why did they not do something to get these 2 boys removed from the torture. They all saw the signs, they knew they were being neglected and abused. WHY did they allow this child to remain with monsters until his death. I hope the Therapist was fired, I hope that Doc is no longer in practice and I hope CAS workers are haunted by this case, as that child's future was in their hands. Shame on all of them.
