Canada - Possible armed abduction of woman from porch in Toronto, 23 Aug 2018

  • #21
Sorry for being confused:

Woman rings doorbell at random door, possibly looking for help/rescuing. Nobody answers, or nobody is home. Armed man drags her by her hair into a car a drives away after uttering death threats?

Did I get that right?

Domestic dispute gone terribly bad maybe?
More than likely human trafficking or prostitution. She likely tried to escape and he dragged her back. He was driving a decent car, and judging by his vocabulary, isn't making that kind of money honestly.

Watchword here still 'possible'.

"Homeowner John Vuong told CTV Toronto that he was asleep when the woman rang his doorbell and discovered the disturbing content on his surveillance video when he woke up later that day.
Police release video of vehicle used in woman's suspected abduction
“I kept playing it over and over and over again because I couldn’t believe my eyes,” he said on Friday. “It’s unbelievable that it happened in my neighbourhood.”

Vuong said he doesn’t know the woman or the man in the video.

“I really hope for the safety of the lady because that was very life threatening,” he said.

Police said they’re looking into recent missing persons reports, but they don’t have any leads yet.

“We don’t know who the victim is. We don’t know who the suspect is. We’re very concerned for the safety of this victim,” York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden said. “As you can hear in the video, she’s fearful for her life and the male threatens to kill her.”

Curious about your " possible " comment up thread?

Could be a set up too, to get home owners to answer door and turns into home invasion. But if that's the case, they certainly put a lot into the drama part. Time will tell hopefully.

Maybe that's what he meant by "possible"?

This is horrible. I hope LE have had some calls and are checking leads.

Good point.

Another reason to never answer the door. Even in a 'nice area'.

Opinion | Police have little to go on after terrifying gunpoint abduction in Richmond Hill
By Rosie DiManno
Aug. 24, 2018
"The porthole nighttime view is eerie in itself.
Wee hours stillness."

"Who is she? Who is he? What is going on, apart from the obvious, a woman manhandled into a car against her will?

A Google map view of the street shows a tidy, peaceful residential neighbourhood in Richmond Hill, lined by trees and typical suburban double-storey houses.

Last place in the world one might imagine a gunpoint abduction taking place, if that’s what this is.

Given the location and the hour, it’s unlikely the woman has come from a great distance to knock on this door. But that’s just speculation. Everything is speculation.

A domestic? A human trafficking situation that the female is trying to flee?

Did the occupants of that corner lot house hear the bell and ignore it? It’s understandable, if so, that someone would not open the door in the middle of the night to a stranger."
"Investigators have checked their own missing persons records, and those in surrounding jurisdictions, but nothing has been turned up corresponding to the female. Police aren’t even certain of the woman’s skin colour, or the man’s."

“We don’t know why she chose that doorbell to ring,” Pattenden told CP24. “But you can see from the video that she does look scared and what happens afterwards is shocking. That’s why so many people are concerned for her well-being, just as we are and why that video has been shared so widely. We’re really hopeful that someone has that piece of information and leads us to (who) this person is so that we can find her, most importantly make sure she’s safe.”

Who are you honey? Is nobody missing you?"

Regarding a nice area and the potential for sex trafficking, which may or may not be what has happened here but posting just in case, imo, speculation.rbbm.

'They’re lured from their parents’ homes, the library, high school, the local shopping mall.'

"When Mike heard Amy’s reluctance to work for him, he threatened to kill her and bury her up north".

" Most don’t realize the typical target is “your average 14, 15-year-old who goes to high school in Newmarket."

"And the victims, in Canada, number in the thousands, she said."

"Traffickers "can make $250,000 with one girl. It’s more lucrative than drugs or guns.”

"Sex traffickers are manipulators. Some of their common lines:

"I can’t believe we’ve found each other so young. Most people wait their whole lives for this."

"We love each other and we’re willing to do anything for each other."

"You’re so much more mature than the people you hang out with. That must be pretty rough on you."

"Your parents are treating you like a child."

"You need a real man, not boys like these guys."

"You don’t have to pay for these gifts/drugs/alcohol. You’re my girl. I take care of you."

"You owe me. I’ve paid for drugs and food and housing and clothing. Once you pay me back, then you can leave."

"You want to go to police? Have fun in jail. I didn’t sell my body; you sold yours."

"You don’t want to do this anymore? Maybe your little sister does? Maybe I should give her a call.”

RED FLAGS

Signs to watch for:

* expensive clothing

* secretive

* boyfriend that is not introduced to family or friends

* erratic sleeping patterns

* unexplained injuries

* slipping grades

They should be able to estimate her height by putting a few other people in the same position in front of the camera and seeing if she's taller or shorter than them in the view?

I just tried to do a missing person's search but I feel like something went wrong as I was expecting 1500 results and only got 44 back. There was one who looked possible, a First Nations young woman who went missing in 2013 aged 22. But there should be far more than 44 missing females in the whole of Canada in the past 14 years, so I think I must have messed up that search somehow.

Someone at the local university linguistics department ought to be able to tell where she's lived during her life to get her particular accent, that would help. And then if her approximate height could be determined, those two factors could be used to narrow down a list of missing females over the past 10 years who were born after around 1988, and from that you could narrow down build and some facial characteristics, and from there it might be possible to get that tape targeted to say 100 families of missing females to see if they recognize the voice?

Why are things never as simple as they seem to be in my mind?

And it wouldn't help find her if we knew who she was...but it might help as if we could find out who she is and what she looked like when she went missing, then a name and a reconstruction of what she might look like today could be released? She might not be still using the same forename? But it might help.

If she's fine why hasn't she come forward to say so?

Well thank heavens for that. now to arrest the guy and get to the bottom of what was really going on. The sooner he's behind bars, the better.

We don't answer our door most of the time, now it will be none of the time.

Looks like the suspect in this case was involved in some way in a 2014 shooting.

Two men facing attempted murder charges after victim shot in groin, pepper-sprayed

Police say a known associate of the victim drove him to the back of an apartment building under false pretenses around 1:45 p.m.

Two other men were waiting for the victim when he arrived at the building’s parking lot and one of them was armed with a gun, police say.

A struggle ensued when the two men approached the victim and the victim was shot in the groin. He was also pepper-sprayed in the face by the man who brought him to the back of the building, police say.

I hope LE is watching over her, I feel scared for her until he is behind bars. If they were in a relationship this must be so difficult for her. I’m glad people called tips in. As much as I hate social media and what not sometimes it’s supee helpful (no clue if it helped but I’m sure it did)

This article has a picture of McLennan. Could someone bring the picture over here?

I'm so glad that poor woman was found safe!
