There is a little bit more info now about the video ... they are hoping to be able to release the footage to the public ... and in the video, taken on a cell phone or computer, Zehaf-Bibeau threatened to act ‘in the name of Allah in response to Canadian foreign policy'.

http://www.680news.com/2014/10/28/cpl-nathan-cirillo-honoured-at-funeral-in-hamilton/

"Thousands of people lined the streets of Hamilton on Tuesday to pay respects to an unarmed soldier gunned down as he stood ceremonial guard in Ottawa in what the prime minister called a terrorist attack.

Cpl. Nathan Cirillo’s coffin, carried atop a gun carriage to Christ’s Church Cathedral, was accompanied by members of his regiment as well as scores of soldiers and police officers marching to the sounds of muffled drums.

In a homily, Rev. Canon Rob Fead called Cirillo “Canada’s son” and said the tragedy of his death helped bring the country together.

“We gather this day in faith and in hope,” Fead told mourners. “His bravery, his sacrifice, is not in vain.”

In a message to Cirillo’s regiment, the Queen expressed sorrow at his death under such “grievous” circumstances.

“I send my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this tragedy, in particular to members of Cpl. Cirillo’s own family,” the Queen, the regiment’s colonel-in-chief, said in her note."

He [Stephen Harper] choked back tears in a rare public display of emotion when addressing Cirillo's five-year-old son.

"May time ease the searing pain of today," Mr Harper said.

"And may his son, young ..... Cirillo, some day find comfort in the fact that our entire country looks up to his dad with pride, with gratitude, with deep abiding respect."

He was buried in the Field of Honor at Woodland Cemetery in Hamilton.

Today was tough to watch, but oh so touching.

Canada lost such an honourable and beautiful young man with that unforgettable smile, the military and his regiment lost a proud and dutiful soldier to the core, and his family has lost such a bright and loving light in their lives.

May we all find peace and comfort in the memory of this good man and soldier and what he means to us all.

Rest in Peace, Corporal Nathan Cirillo … you will never be forgotten.

I am glad I watched the live coverage today.

The regimental bagpipes were beautiful when they played Amazing Grace -- the pipes were powerful with their crescendos. Best rendition I have heard for a while.

Played after a relative's funeral years ago and I find it uplifting and powerful.

The day before his attack on Parliament Hill, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau was overheard at an Ottawa shopping mall engaged in a heated discussion about the killing of civilians by soldiers, bolstering police claims he was driven by ideology when he killed a Canadian Forces reservist at the National War Memorial.

The angry exchange about politics occurred while Zehaf-Bibeau waited in a line that formed outside the ServiceOntario outlet in the Westgate Shopping Centre on Carling Avenue, where he was hoping to complete the purchase of a used car.

Three witnesses have independently described the conversation he had with a black male, apparently a stranger, while they waited for ServiceOntario to open last Tuesday morning.

Their loud discussion apparently carried over into the ServiceOntario office when it opened at 9 a.m. Zehaf-Bibeau was asked by staff to lower his voice or leave, the daughter of the car seller told the Ottawa Citizen last week.

Police devoting ‘considerable resources’ to uncovering Calgary life of Ottawa shooter ...

... The news comes a week after Chief Rick Hanson confirmed that the Calgary Police Service was investigating Zehaf-Bibeau. At that time, the only confirmed link between the shooter and the city was a photo radar ticket from Edmonton given to a man named Michael Zehaf. The car was registered to the Calgary Islamic Centre on 14th Avenue S.W.

“People are expected to use their permanent address or a legitimate address, but the system is such that it can happen,” said Daroux. “While it’s not usual, it’s not uncommon.”

No one from the centre, or from the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, which runs the downtown mosque on 8th Avenue S.W., knew of Zehaf-Bibeau or could say if he ever attended their mosques.

Photo radar only takes a pic of the plate. If the registered owner of the vehicle is the Calgary Islamic Centre and the ticket was mailed (as it is with photo radar) to that organization, how did Zehaf's name as the driver in Edmonton get connected to the use of the vehicle?

How can the two organizations claim they don't know him? He apparently had access to that vehicle from Calgary and was using it in Edmonton (3 hr drive / 6 hr round trip + however long he spent in Edmonton).

Uncovering a killer: Addict, drifter, walking contradiction

How Michael Zehaf-Bibeau’s life spiralled from privilege to petty crime and drugs to, eventually, deadly extremism. The story of a desperate madman ...

Hasibullah Yusufzai, a 25-year-old accused of joining a terrorist group in Syria ...

For investigators trying to piece together the motives and final movements of the Parliament Hill gunman, Hasibullah Yusufzai may provide some clues. Both men knew each other from the Burnaby mosque and were seen speaking on numerous occasions ...

Paulson also revealed that the shooter’s email was found on a hard drive belonging to a suspect already charged with terror-related offences; Paulson didn’t say who the drive belonged to, but because Yusufzai is the only “traveller” charged so far the answer appears obvious ...

I wonder if Canada has a similar system to ours. For example, an associate of mine has a work van, someone else was driving the van when he was caught speeding on a speed camera. When the infringement notice/fine arrived, my associate completed and signed a Statutory Declaration which was then witnessed and notarised by a Justice of the Peace. The Statutory Declaration stated that the other person was driving the vehicle at the time of the infringement, and the other person is now responsible for the infraction.

Of course, this would mean that a responsible person at the Calgary Islamic Centre did, in fact, know that Zehaf was driving the Centre's vehicle at the time of the radar photo.

Or ... maybe they are saying that Zehaf stole the vehicle. I wonder if it was recovered while in his possession, and formal charges were or were not filed?

<rsbm>

Given that both centres claim they didn't know him, they could not have provided his name as the driver at the time.

Then in the Mcleans article linked above, the mosque in BC said he had keys to the mosque but they didn't know how he got them. Guy seems to have a habit of being in possession of things belonging to others without their knowledge.

There is a new in-depth article. It says that the vehicle was registered in Zehaf's name, with his address as the Calgary Islamic Centre.
Other interesting bits and pieces in the article too.

Around the same time, he may also have passed through Edmonton, where a car registered in his name with the address of the Calgary Islamic Centre was slapped with a photo radar speeding ticket on Aug. 1.

http://ottawacitizen.com/news/natio...orces-base-in-iraq-named-after-nathan-cirillo

“The naming of Patrol Base Cirillo by members of the Special Operations Task Force – Iraq, and the naming of Camp Vincent by members of Air Task Force – Iraq, pays tribute to the loss of two Canadian Armed Forces members in recent weeks,” added Brigadier-General Michael Rouleau, Commander of Canadian Special Operations Forces Command. “

Just wanted to acknowledge that two overseas bases are going to be named after the two soldiers who were murdered.
