On the day of his disappearance, Shahzad had phoned his mother to say that he had just been fired from his job. Her advice was for him to come to her apartment but he did not return.

The next phone call that she received was from police in Islamabad, Pakistan. Apparently, Shahzad’s luggage was found on the airport luggage carousel where it lay unclaimed.
