Exactly - don't think she'd bail on the dog. I don't think disappearing was her choice, JMO.

She does seem attached to the dog. And if she did bring it with her, I think it's definitely something LE would have mentioned, as a means of describing her.

Indeed. Thank you for explaining your point of view. I had it all wrong. What you're saying totally makes sense.

Sorry, I'm not the clearest at explaining myself sometimes :)

Well you are in good company, that makes two of us ;)

Where is Shannon --- Madill --- Burgess...???

:candle:

( Just an observation, fwiw, she DID take HIS name ---> As someone trying to build a NAME for HERSELF, she certainly DIDN'T have to. )

Exactly. I hope (wishful?) she's ok.

Funny how a forum can change your mind...

Welllllllllll  the family asked for tips not supposition...I have to wonder how many tips have been recieved??? Any sightings in Calgary, Vancouver, the TeeDotOh or otherwise???
If any, were they directed to LE and/or the family spokesperson??? Regardless, there doesn't seem to be a need for help from the public these days. :moo: :cow:

I am curious if the dog is still around. Maybe it is just me, but I could NEVER leave my dog without a second thought. My ex and I completely agreed about child custody, but were ready to fight to the death over the dog. SB seemed really attached to her furbaby.

Yep ... on her okcupid profile, her dog was one of the things she listed she "could never do without".

Second on the list:

Yes, I've wondered and thought about that also. Pretty weird actually (MOO), in this day and age, and at her biological age, and with the type of career that she has chosen, to take a man's surname as her own, and especially (IMHO) when it is a mostly non monogamous relationship. I guess we could argue for hours about this but to me, non monogamous equals less committed than monogamous. Your birthname is for life, but who wants to keep a surname of an ex husband? And what are the divorce rates lately?

That just makes me wonder.... since nothing at all was said about the dog.. (ie 'may' have a xx type dog with her).. or that it would be unheard of for her to leave the dog unattended in her home alone.. it makes me wonder if the dog was no longer with them.. or... since JB didn't know she was going away for a few days, (and assuming he lived elsewhere, even though they 'shared a home'?), the dog died during the time when she was last seen to the time she was discovered to still be not at home (just about 5 full days).

Can a dog live without food/water for say 4 days? I wonder what the usual protocol was when SB left town to go to say, Edmonton, for a couple of days.. would JB know in advance and be told and therefore know to look after the dog? Would SB ask him to look after the dog? If that is the case, then what happened this time?

Why wasn't it stated in MSM, ie 'it is out of character for her, and unlike when she usually travels for a few days, she did not indicate to her 'husband' that the dog would need caring for'? That would give further weight to the premise that she was involuntarily missing as opposed to left on her own accord, which may give more cause for concern.

Would love to know therefore, if that dog was still alive and living in that home when SB 'left'. So many unanswered questions about the JB part. And yet, aren't spouses always the first to be looked at? But yet not in this case. Why?

I am curious if the dog is still around. Maybe it is just me, but I could NEVER leave my dog without a second thought. My ex and I completely agreed about child custody, but were ready to fight to the death over the dog. SB seemed really attached to her furbaby.

Sadly, I travel often and come home more so to see my dog than my teenage son. I know my dog misses me. My pup always greets me happily. My son only wants clean clothes and homemade meals.

Has anyone found her profile on any other relationship sites? She mentions eHarmony on her OkCupid profile.

Just noticed that she was using his name before they were married: they were married in May 2014, but she's used Burgess on this profile, which was last changed earlier in 2014. Also, it indicates she'd bought the domain name shannonhburgess.com.

Maybe she took his name because she preferred the sound of it, professionally, over Madill?

I'm still thinking that LE, her family, and friends have evidence that leads them to believe she left willingly---her family pleads for her to contact them, LE has said that she could be in Toronto or Vancouver, and on one of the LARP FB pages, there's something to the tune of "I hope she's just taken some time to unplug." Her last three FB posts indicate she was having a rough month---the post about her brakes insinuates it was just one of several bad things to happen, the Blank Spaces reference indicates relationship problems, and the "We're adults & busy. No reason to be in constant contact with you to prove my friendship to you. Just know when/if you need me, I'm here," suggests some conflict over communication.

The dog is an interesting point. She did go to Edmonton just prior to disappearing, would it be possible that while away, she'd left the dog with family or JB, who was staying somewhere else? And the dog stayed there in the 5 days it took for anyone to notice she was missing?

Even if she did leave willingly (which I really hope is the case), it doesn't mean she's safe.

<Mod Snip>

It's not rational, that's for sure. But if she were coping with mental issues, it wouldn't be a stretch for her to makes some irrational decisions.

There's no doubt in my mind that Shannon is no longer amongst the living. The only remaining question I have is: was it suicide, or did someone harm her? Suicide seems unlikely given that everything in her professional life was going well. I'm suspicious of the husband. Even though Shannon was clear in terms of stating that she was not committed to a traditional marriage, that doesn't mean that her husband was okay with it. He may have entered the marriage with expectations that she would settle down and commit.

It is certainly not a good idea for someone to go out in the middle of the night without a cell phone or car, but it's not entirely irrational. If she was going for a short walk, why wouldn't she take the dog? If someone was coming to her house to pick her up, there should be evidence of planning that meeting on either on social media, or her phone. The fact that she is missing, and personal items that people normally take with them are not, is curious.

Can someone please refresh my memory ... were her keys and wallet missing, but cell phone and car remained at home?

Yes, her wallet and keys were gone, cell phone and car at home. No mention of the dog, it's possible it was somewhere else, as she'd just returned from Edmonton. We don't know if she left at night. Her husband last saw her at their residence at 12:30am---it's possible HE left then. They were in the process of a divorce, so he may have been staying somewhere else.

Dec 14: Vancouver Police Service and the Toronto Police Service issued news releases saying investigators have received information suggesting she may be in one of those two cities.

The irrational decision I was referring to was willfully disappearing...

You know, maybe something happened to the dog that might have contributed to her mental state...
Pets are like children ( only better :blushing: ) to plenty of people. (just saying...) :moo:

Good points. For some reason I thought I remember that she brings the dog with her to Edmonton, but not sure if I read that or thought that! Will try to find that to be sure.

I can't see anything that supports wilful disappearance. With today's social media, and massive "big brother is watching", Shannon could not vanish such that she is alive and well in another location.

Her husband has a regular day job, so presumably he would not be going out at 12:30AM. I'm pretty sure that they were living together. The fact that this was a marriage of convenience for Shannon, but they were getting divorced, suggests that there was some disagreement about the game plan. Clearly someone was not satisfied with the definition of "convenience". Divorce creates the most dangerous time for married women; the time when the risk of injury and murder is highest. It seems to me that the easiest way to get rid of someone in Calgary is a soft kill and a body in the river just before the river ice cover. Bodies in the river always seem to be deemed accident or suicide ... barring injuries from weapons.

I'm not suggesting JB went out for anything social at 12:30am, but rather to wherever he was sleeping. I'm thinking that maybe they had a discussion when she came back from Edmonton, and then he left to stay somewhere else.
