Nailed that on the head. Why isn't the family involved in this?
The benefit of the doubt would allow for letting LE do their job without unknowingly giving out information best kept secret.

Also, should SB later return, discussing things like one's sexual habits in public could strain relationships... but so could not making enough of an effort to find one in their moment of crisis.

A classic case of damned if you do... damned if you don't.

Exactly.

... with one small snag however... if the safety of your loved one is at stake... which side do you err on?

Exactly indeed.

And if anyone was wondering if a family's involvement in the discussion creates more involvement from the public... click on the link everyone bumped and jumped to... and look at the sudden lack of activity here.

What has yet to be determined, is if that level of involvement will help or hinder any investigation and/or future court cases.

I think the person you're referring to doesn't have the best faith in the way police are handling her case, so I think that's why she's decided to interact with and reach out to the public. She's also extremely interactive in discussions on her FB page.

I guess people deal with tragedies differently. I'm an acquaintance of a girl whose sister was murdered and her family was in the media a lot after it happened, and people turned on them a little saying one of the family members had an ulterior motive for being in the spotlight. So wrong!

I do find SB's family awfully quiet though. There's quiet but then there's *too* quiet.

Just to play devil's advocate a little... ;) SB's sexual habits are out there forever on the internet, she put it out there, we and others found it.

The scary thing is in today's world people put all their private info on the web for all to see thinking no one is paying attention when more people than they think are. It's interesting that most of the stuff we find her on WS is all found online. I imagine LE find tons of information when they do the foot work, interview people and go to locations, we only scratch the surface with what we find online, JMO.

Hmm, *another* one?? Roughly same age, 10 minutes by car from where SB was last seen(?)... missing since March 10th. There is a WS thread already started for Jessica Rae Newman. Here is her missing persons poster. What's going on over there in Calgary??

Do any of these that you can think of over there that are unsolved.... seem at all similar, as if there could be some kind of serial thing going on??

No, I had a look at that site awhile back, and it is just bad. So many aren't on there. There must be another site around that lists *all* the missing people?? Or at least... one for each major area or something?

This could be the case. I've been trying to get the list of the missing in Calgary but, according to the canadian government site, Shannon Burgess isn't even missing so I doubt that it lists every missing person...

I just found this site http://missingpeople.ca/category/missing-person/missing-in-alberta/

It appears to be more complete than the other one. I have to go to bed but I'll look into it tomorrow.

I've been looking through that, and it's definitely got more than the RCMP's site, but there are a number of profiles that have not been updated to show that the person has been located. Unfortunately, the number of inactive cases draws attention away from the cases of people who are still missing.

It appears from the other thread, that Jessica Newman worked in an area with a large number of hookers,as did Shannon? She was supposed to work the night shift so she could have been outside at night,as Shannon may have been.Is it possible that someone who is targeting hookers may have mistaken Jessica and Shannon .( especially hookers resembling these two?) Just a thought......

Or perhaps given the glaring custody issues, and the glaring lifestyle and income issues... coincidence?

I think this is more likely. But the thing is that they're about the same age and a bit similar (physically). And it happened in Calgary.

While it is not in the same area, both areas are in the SE and known to have prostitution.

Was it 3000 missing persons cases a year in Calgary?

It would be interesting to know how many are young women with mental illness issues... that are later found. One cannot dismiss the possible similarities, but statistically, the circumstances may be more similar to hundreds of false alarms.

As well... how much basis for public attention is placed on age or looks? Is the story less compelling without the pictures?

Was it said somewhere that Shannon had mental issues?

I agree with you that it would be interesting to see the similarities in the different missing cases. I looked through the missings list at http://missingpeople.ca/category/missing-person/missing-in-alberta/
and I couldn't find anything, except that there are way too many teens that went missing in Red Dear.
