Bumping for Sharron Prior, someone out there knows the truth...

  • #62
reminds me of the Gloddy case

  • #63
Uncanny how much she looked like Martha Moxley, who was killed the same year.

Just read through this thread and was stunned by rghan post #40, page 2, 25 March 2012, clarifying Sharon was found in a gated alcove where bees were kept and that one would have to back out on to the highway to leave.

That is exactly the same description where Debbie Silverman was found on 12 November 1978 in Sunderland, Ontario - 3 months after she was abducted from her Toronto apartment.
One can only drive in and back out of the Sunderland spot. It was a bee keeping site and the boxes were still there a few years ago. Debbie was found just beyond where the bees were kept in a shallow grave. There is a gate that is easily opened, but unsure if the gate was there in 1978. Debbie's panties were found at the abduction site in Toronto - 2 abductors? One to control here, one to remove her panties? See UC site for more detailed info.

Bee keepers need queen bees brought in from time to time and there are suppliers for that.

"Although the Longueil Police Department says they have yet to link the case with a serial killer, Yvonne suspects otherwise, believing Sharron may have been the victim of a serial killer who roamed the country, perhaps by train, targeting young girls close in age and looks. Reading Yvonne’s detailed reports on the victims’ age and deadly injuries, one can’t help but notice the patterns. She seems like a seasoned professional"

From above NP link.
This week, police announced an anonymous donor has stepped forward to offer a $10,000 reward. Police also set up a fresh command post in Point St. Charles, and set up a dedicated phone line.

“I believe in my heart that someone, somewhere, knows something,” Yvonne says"

"Yvonne's list includes cases such as Tammy Leaky, a 12-year-old who went missing in 1981, just a few blocks away from where Sharron disappeared six years earlier.

Tammy's body was found later the same day, raped, beaten and strangled.

"In the 70s," says Doreen, "we didn't have computers and social networking. There was no Child Find when Sharron went missing. There was no Amber Alert, no poster campaigns. There was paper and radio but now there is so much more. Photos can be posted online and distributed around the world in minutes. The first 48 hours are the most critical in a missing person's case, so now when a child goes missing, we want it out there in the public's eye right away."

Eleven-year-old Kathryn-Mary Herbert was out with a friend on Sept. 24, 1975, and walking home when she was snatched a short distance from her Abbotsford, B.C., house. Her body was found two months later. An autopsy report revealed she had suffered a fractured skull and broken jaw"

"LONGUEUIL - More than 37 years after her body was discovered in a wooded area in Longueuil, it seems someone has taken an interest in finding out once and for all who killed 16-year-old Sharron Prior.

Police in Longueuil issued a statement on Wednesday asking anyone with information about the cold case to be in touch with their investigators, explaining that an anonymous donor had recently offered a reward of up to $10,000 for any tips leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect.

The reward, offered through Sun Youth, will be valid for the next six months"

"Of course, when we found out that there was an anonymous donor, we felt it would be a good time to bring it out in the media again," said Longueuil police Constable Mark David.

"The last time the (Sharron Prior) case was publicized was a while back."

David said police may never know why someone suddenly decided to offer such a large reward in exchange for information in a case that is nearing its 40th anniversary.

"Maybe it's from somebody who knows the family," he theorized.

"People may have all kinds of reasons."

Sorry for flooding the thread with posts, but after looking for new material for months and finding none, I "gave it a rest" and totally missed the Motherlode of articles posted these last few weeks , until now!
Considering how precious a few yellowing news articles are in older cases, it feels like an absolute luxury to be able to post (and keep for posterity)these newspaper links!.

"I was 37 years old when this happened to my daughter. You can count, I'm 74 now," said Prior. "I can't believe that I'm still waiting for this to be solved," said Prior."

"People are often scared to call 9-1-1 [saying], 'Oh we're going to bother the police officers,'" said Mark David of Longueuil police. "Well that's our job. That's why we're here."

Police say despite 37 years since Sharron's death, any clue could still be useful.

"Sometimes we can go very far with just a little piece of information," said David.

Anyone with information about the murder of Sharron Prior is asked to call Longueuil Police at 450-463-7211. All callers will be treated with full anonymity and confidentiality.

I e-mailed the OPP today asking if Debbie Silverman's case had ever been compared to Sharron Prior. Given when these murders occurred and 2 provinces/jurisdictions, they may or may not have been. Have never found any details on injuries to DS, COD or what she was wearing when found etc.

I never knew about the D.Silverman case, but now after perusing US, (WS, Crimesolver's Toronto cold.Case thread Toronto Crimes Discussion - Page 2 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community
notes DS case. does seem to have similiarities ( possibly two perps, panties left out) ect...must find some news clips to post.Have not yet read where in Toronto D.S. was living, but would be very curious if it was near Yorkville ( Tice,Gilmore).

It's where DS was found that has most the similarities to SP - wooded alcove (that has had a gate for many years) where beehives were kept at the time. In August, when DS went missing, it is impossible to see the area where she was found - you would have to know it's there. Seemed so similar 3 years and 5 months after SP.

Hmm, I am thinking bees, honey, restaurants (Marina's for Sharron,Papaya Hut for Debbie), food delivery?...

Here is a better list of what is the same regarding the locations where SP and DS were found.

- Both were found at private beekeeping sites.
- Both sites were off the beaten path.
- Both sites were alcoves cut into existing woods with no exit.
- Both sites had gates to deter people from entering, but not enough to keep out someone that wanted in. The lock at SP site was not fastened, and may not have been on a regular basis. One can untwist wire at DS site.
- Both were found about 75' beyond the gates.
- Both had panties left on display.
- SP was held captive for a time, someone spent time digging a shallow grave for DS.
- It's not possible to randomly find DS site in August when she disappeared due to foilage growth, not possible to know from road that lock at SP site was not fastened.
- The possibility of 2 perps has been discussed for both.
- Both seem crimes of opportunity - who knew exact route of SP and the time she would be walking along it, DS arrived home about 5:00 am after a night out - not possible to predict her exact time of arrival home. DS was snatched from the back door of her building with items left behind showing a struggle.
- Both found quite a distance from where they were taken, in same setting.

Pretty coincidental for 2 crimes that were 3 years, 4 months and 2 weeks apart. The distance is about 650 kms, or a 6 or so hour drive. Someone traveling that was familiar with both locations? I wish LE would release more on DS COD and other crime scene info on clothing, tire marks etc. I hope the similarities were noticed previously and dealt with.

The annual Toronto Exhibition had just opened as well, bringing people from all over, making for a busy time.

In addition to above list, SP was driven across a bridge - why so brazen? How could one be sure no one would notice her hurt, crying etc in a vehicle? DS was driven from a busy area of Toronto out of town just as the sun was coming up - I always found that brazen.

I wonder if it was of any significance that SP was a Catholic and DS, Jewish?
What would bring someone to a Jewish part of town (Bathurst and Steeles) early a.m. and someone to a working-class Catholic area (Pte.St.Charles) early p.m. Easter?

http://wikitravel.org/en/Toronto/North_York
"Like any major city, North York (as part of Toronto) has its share of crime, though far less than the rate found in American cities of equal (and even smaller) size. While it is easy to name specific areas (Jane and Finch, Don Mills and Finch) these are based as much on local legend as police data. Additionally, they tend to be out of the way and purely residential areas and so most tourists will have little reason to venture to them. A lot of the crime is gang-on-gang and in the wee hours".
