Sherry Shelley was last heard from on Nov. 13 and police said her disappearance is highly out of character for her.

“Based on the evidence we have and understanding her lifestyle, this is out of character for her,” Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, media relations officer for the Nanaimo RCMP told Global News.

“As a result, the information has been forwarded to our Serious Crime Unit. They are taking the lead on this investigation.”

RCMP said they believe Shelley has been in the area between Walmart, in the north section of Nanaimo, and the old logging road, off Ware Road in Lantzville, sometime overnight from Nov. 13 to Nov. 14.''
''He said police also believe Shelley is associated with her vehicle, which is a white 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan.''

''Neighbours gathered for a candlelight vigil and potluck Saturday night to honour Sherry Shelley, the 65-year-old Nanaimo woman whose disappearance police are treating as highly suspicious.''

“All these logs that you see on the garden are all from what she has collected, all the rocks, all the sea glass, all the seashells,” one neighbour told CHEK News. “The whole front of the building is Sherry. So, yeah, so it’s really important that we just light up her presence even more.”

''Sherry Shelley, 65, was last seen at her downtown apartment on Thursday, Nov. 13 and was last in communication with others around 9:30 p.m. the same day, saying she was at Walmart at Woodgrove Centre.
Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said they believe Shelley is still in the city’s north end.
“Her disappearance is highly suspicious, and as a result, the investigation is being conducted by the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crimes Unit. She is believed to be between Walmart and the logging road off Ware Rd.”

''Family and friends of Shelley said items reportedly belonging to her were found on Friday, Nov. 14 in the Lantzville area, on a logging road.
Included was a jacket she was believed to be wearing at Walmart.''

Walmart is notorious for having a massive CCTV system. I hope that investigators will find evidence leading to locating Sherry and her vehicle.

I don't feel comfortable in Walmart anymore due to a prior situation of being stalked by a couple who were going to steal my purse. In this case though I wonder if Sherry had more errands or stops after Walmart that went badly.

Trying to find stats on Sherry's height etc. but without luck thus far.

I'm curious about her route, and how she was intercepted.

IMO, Sherry may have been abducted from the Walmart parking lot around 10 pm, when all the other businesses in the area close. Her home was south of Walmart, there'd be no reason for her to drive north at that late hour and especially not onto those very sketchy logging roads at night. There are no official reports that her vehicle has been found, however rumours abound.

Her case was quickly deemed 'highly suspicious' by the Nanaimo RCMP, and it's been assigned to the Serious Crime unit.

Parksville area police indicated Sara was seen driving on the logging road where her vehicle was later found, it was evening/getting dark. Search and rescue have been looking for her, police haven't given any indiction that they believe a crime is involved.

So I'm confused as to why LE mentions the Old Logging Road. They might have seen her vehicle on cameras in the area, but it must have been near that road? Or was it because they found her vehicle there? LE have been tight-lipped about whether or not they've found Sherry's vehicle.

Sherry sounds like the type of person who would give someone a lift in her car. Someone she met at Walmart? Would she pick up a hitchhiker at night?

it wouldn't be the first time someone was abducted or attacked in a store parking lot but there is usually CCTV showing the victim being followed or the suspect loitering in the parking lot

if police had any store surveillance showing anything connected, I think they would've released that info?

I used to go shopping alone overnight at grocery stores and Walmart - not anymore ...

Quoting parts of this comment ... it sounds like Sherry was shopping at Walmart after dark, then drove to the Old Logging Road in Lantzville instead of going home. Something on the Old Logging Road leads RCMP to believe she was there.

As mentioned upthread, Walmart tends to have good CCTV in parking lots. If there is CCTV of Sherry encountering someone in the parking lot, I assume that would be released. That is evidence that will help locate Sherry.

Assuming there is no CCTV footage of anything going wrong in the parking lot, why did Sherry go to the Old Logging Road? Was her tire slashed so she pulled over? Did someone wave her over once she was out of view of CCTV? Was someone in her vehicle and, if so, shouldn't there be CCTV footage?

Did she typically park near the Walmart entrance, or at the end of the parking lot?

Not the RCMP, they give nothing away unnecessarily. Just the bare minimum that may bring forward witnesses.

IMO, police have not stated they believe she drove herself there.

I believe they probably pinged her phone, and found possessions they could link to her, so yes, concluded she and her vehicle were likely there: but are very suspicious about why, and she wasn't there the next morning (maybe a dog walker found it).

IMO, police are only releasing info that might bring forward witnesses who might have been in that area at that time... IMO, they don't want any perps to know what they know.

Walmart is at the north end of town, where the highway heads north to other communities, or south in the direction of her home. I can't imagine any circumstances when a woman, after buying groceries, would head to a very dodgy, uninhabited, unlit area, on a November night.

Could be - I hope not. There's a bus runs downtown, until midnight, from that mall: just give someone bus money.

Like other west coast cities, Nanaimo has a lot of homelessness, drug use and petty crime, mostly in the downtown where there are also services.

Lots of people give support to the unhoused, but that doesn't mean bringing them into your home or vehicle...

I think this route was used. Whoever did this lives in the area and knows the backroads.

Athough her belongings were tossed out of her vehicle on the logging road, the vehicle could be in a completely different location today.
