FYI, this is from the DailyMail:

"Canada's worst mass murderer was a millionaire alcoholic whose denture business was shuttered by coronavirus, it was revealed today as the death toll from his rampage rose to 19."

Canada killer 'obsessed with mounties' had an alcohol problem | Daily Mail Online

According to this article, after killing the ex-GF and her BF, he pulled people over at random on the highway and executed them. Horrific. What about the people whose homes he burned? He must have targeted them for some reason.

Wortman delved into this trove of memorabilia to disguise as an officer, pulling victims over in his fake police vehicle before executing them point blank.

In a cruel twist, real mountie Heidi Stevenson, a mother-of-two, was among the dead which lay scattered across the eastern province.

They also include an elementary school teacher, a nurse, a care assistant, a family of three, and a husband and wife who leave behind four children.

Police sources told Canadian media that the first two victims were Wortman's ex-wife and her new boyfriend, but he then easily slaughtered at random by pretending to be a police officer.

Here is a new article via the Associated press:

Things of note

16 crime scenes

5 structure fires

at least 18 dead

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chief Superintendent Chris Leather
“We’re relatively confident we’ve identified all the crime scenes,” Leather said. “We have had five structure fires, most of those being residences, and we believe there may be victims still within the remains of those homes which burnt to the ground.”

Nova Scotia RCMP confirm that the attacker was shot by police and later died. In a news release, the police also say he was wearing an authentic police uniform and that he was driving a 'very real look-alike RCMP vehicle.'

It's like he did both, as a perfectionist first he revered and then he co-opted.

From the article:

“Often there was no nefarious intent,” said University of Western Ontario criminologist Mike Arntfield, who encountered a few people fitting the description during his 15 years with the London Police Service. “It was compulsion, part of a broader fantasy world they had developed. They were forever dancing on the line of personating an officer.”
...

The shooter’s background bears the hallmarks of two distinct but opposing personality types familiar to police: the wannabe, who generally reveres law enforcement, and the criminal impersonator, who co-opts the badge for illicit purposes.
...

But it wasn’t just any replica cruiser. A picture of the car shows an exact copy of a modern Ford Taurus RCMP cruiser, right down to the rims, decals and lights – what’s collectively known as the car’s “strike package.”
...

As well, he had two handguns and a shotgun similar to police-issue firearms. “He was an enthusiast,” Mr. Rushton said. “He was a perfectionist, wanted to have everything just right.”

Nova Scotia shooter’s profile an ‘outlier’ to the police impersonator archetype

except it wasn't perfect
there are glaring differences in the position of stickers and placement of wording on the vehicle
not enough to alert the general public mind you, but not an 'exact copy' as written in the article

It just keeps getting more horrifying, as @Vern warned us it would. We haven't heard from @Vern since very late the night before last; they are in my heart and I am hoping their absence doesn't mean they got the terrible news they thought they might. Either way, sending you love and support, @Vern!

'Mummy is in heaven': Husband of N.S. shooting victim gives emotional interview

In the weeks before she lost her life on the side of a road during the deadly rampage in Nova Scotia, Kristen Beaton was fighting for more personal protective equipment for front-line workers in the COVID-19 pandemic.

One day before the attack that left at least 18 dead, Beaton posted a selfie on Facebook wearing a surgical mask and safety glasses, calling for other health-care professionals to do the same.

Now, her husband has vowed to carry on her fight

[...]

“We woke up (Sunday) morning and we just assumed it was over.”

That morning, Kristen was on her way to the home of “one of her favourite clients,” Beaton said. “If I had known he was on the loose, I would have not let my wife leave the house that day.”

[...]

She is survived by her husband and their three-year-old son, Dax. During his interview, Nick Beaton said his wife was pregnant with another child. They had planned to tell their families about the pregnancy this week while she had some time off work.

“Our son Daxton was going to wear a shirt and let everybody know,” he said.

Instead, the boy learned that his mother won’t be coming home.

Maybe that was his way of perfection....to get away from "impersonating an officer." ???

He could say, "Hey, I'm not trying to make it look like a real cop car. Any idiot could see the stickers are different." (while knowing the public likely wouldn't notice the difference.)

IDK, just guessing.

Reading these stories makes one wonder just how much the heart can take ...

and then I think of these loved ones whose hearts are breaking even more.

Daily Mail, Mirror, TheDailyWorld, TheWhig, TheDailyBeast and of course Facebook are the "news" reports I've seen that ex-wife & her new partner were the 1st victims. Nothing official from Canadian MSM or RCMP.

Yes, that Canadian media isn’t reporting this story is a good indication the information might not be totally reliable.

I think it’s far to soon for LE to have determined the route the killer and the sequence of his devastation as they indicate the investigation will be ongoing for months. Neither would the order in which 911 were received be an accurate indicator as not all the murders could’ve been reported in chronological order, dependant on if and when anyone knew to make the call. But I’d be at all surprised if his ex and her boyfriend were indeed amongst the deceased. Some MSM are reporting an ex-girlfriend, others an ex-wife but I don’t think we know if he had a recent relationship with anyone at all.
