I dunno ab01, i've viewed it numerous times and can only see where there appears to be a small black base but not the upright part (upright antenna in photos of his mock-up appear to be about 8" high).

I've watched it a couple more times and paused at various points. You can zoom in. It does appear to be on the car. Pause when the vehicle rolls into the frame, you can see it. And again when he's changing, you can see it against the rear windshield.

In this article:
"Leather said it was between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday that police received information the shooter was dressed as an RCMP officer and driving a vehicle made to look like a police cruiser. He said this was after a key witness was located and interviewed.

Leather said as soon as police had those details, they were immediately tweeted out by communications staff. The tweet was sent at 9:21 a.m."

I would like to know more about this "key witness".

the silverish part blends in with the background IMO

i'll upload an actual RCMP car photo here if I can find one to compare

Must just be my eyesight. If the article saw fit to post the video, I'm sure they had good reason and it's not just some random LEO.

Also it has the same incorrect color and location mounted horse logo and the incorrect color and location call 9111 logo. That matches the previously released photos of the suspect fake cruiser

I believe its the suspects fake cruiser FWIW

Edited to clarify

Or drive to nearest Police Station if possible. If it's a nutbar he isn't going to follow you into a Police Parking Lot.

I would do both if a police station was nearby. Because they're usually out on the road, there's often no actual officer sitting at a station, and it would be a good idea to get in touch with dispatch. They can generally determine whether or not it's a legitimate officer pulling you over and either send officers if they don't have anyone on a traffic stop with you, or confirm to you that you are in fact being pulled over by a legitimate LEO.

I fielded a few of these calls working 911 and fortunately they all turned out to be false alarms, but it didn't bother me in the slightest that people called out of concern. We desperately needed new cop cars at the time and many of the patrol cars looked like crap with peeling paint and such.

I agree. The decals seem off to me.

The thing I hate about this statement is that many don't receive instant alerts from social media or even have social media accounts such as twitter.
"Police identified Wortman about nine hours after an initial tweet around midnight asking people to avoid the Portapique area and stay indoors as officers responded to a firearms complaint."

It sounds like they initially thought that they had him contained inside their perimeter.

Unfortunately he was already gone before they had it fully setup.

I still believe that Nova Scotians had a right to be alerted better than what they were if there was any indication that they may be in danger if they left their homes early sunday.

But I also understand the balance of only using a Provincial wide Alert for extremely rare occasions so that they don't end up being a thing where citizens see it and dismiss it.

But if this didn't call for a quicker alert to the general public I don't know what would.

That's why the questions about a timeline of events from reporters were exactly what they should be asking.

What did they know and when did they know it.

Was the timing of events such that they didn't have time to make an informed decision on the alert.

We do know that per MSM employees of the emergency response system were in the office early Sunday expecting to issue an alert but the info from RCMP never came.

Their will definitely be things that will need to be answered and hopefully they can learn something from this whole situation moving forward.

They owe it to the victims to do all in their power to try to use the information to possibly limit further loss of life if an incident such as this were to happen in the future.

And I'm not blaming anybody in law enforcement, as we still don't know all the facts. Maybe they did the best that they could with the limited information that they had.

With that said just like in any situation that happens like this, there are generally things learned that could have been done better.

From the first RCMP tweet at 11:30 pm until the next at around 8:00 am, MANY people were on social media posting and exchanging information in real time. (Mainly FB and Twitter).

I’m hoping a journalist will piece together all of the live citizen updates and compare it to the RCMP timeline.

Some were being criticized at the time for ‘broadcasting’ information about crime scene locations, police presence, and details about the killer.

If you look at current MSM stories, some journalists are referencing FB posts made by victim family members and locals as sources of information.

This is the undercurrent of the saga: eyewitnesses warning their neighbours and loved ones by all means possible.

Just call 911 if you're pulled over and concerned whatsoever about the legitimacy of the officer.
I will call 911, but I will NOT be pulled over until I know it is legitimate, ESPECIALLY when I haven’t been speeding and I know my lights are operational, by an unmarked car with a flashing light. Heck, even if I wasn’t 100% sure that one of my lights went out, I will NOT pull over for an unmarked car on a lonely stretch of road after this horrific event. Not even sure I’d pull over on a lonely road by a marked police vehicle after this until I know it is legit. Continue driving until you are somewhere safer and there are witnesses. That way, at least if it’s a bad scene, someone is there to notify authorities. I’m with Lexiintoronto.

During the presser, they indicated that they did not know that GW had the fake RCMP cruiser and uniform until Sunday morning - sometime between 7am and 8am. They did not elaborate about who gave them this info.

Could it be possible that the perimeter was fully set up but that they inadvertently let GW through because they thought he was one of their own? If they truly thought they had him within the perimeter, this might also explain why they did not issue a broader alert until Sunday morning.

That is my thinking as well

It's definitely not a bad idea to wait until you're in a safe location to pull over. If you call 911/police and report your concerns, it should be obvious that you're not trying to evade LE.

Speaking to the video if it truly is the killer he was so very calm and took his time. Like he had not a care in the world!!!

from: Suspect in Nova Scotia shooting was killed as RCMP wrote emergency alert: police

“At 10:15 a.m., Nova Scotia provincial emergency management officials contacted the RCMP to offer the use of the public emergency alerting system,” RCMP Chief Supt. Chris Leather said Wednesday.

“We were in the process of preparing an alert when the gunman was shot and killed by the RCMP.”

Um, should have been the other way around guys ... RCMP contacting the provincial emergency officials to ask for the use of the system, not waiting to be offered.

Huh?

"Cops are also probing whether the madman had an accomplice as they comb through a total of 16 crime scenes, according to the Wall Street Journal."

They spoke to this at the Presser. Stated killer acted alone speaking to the actual crime but are investigating to see if anyone else was involved leading up to the crime. I would think it entails folks knowing or unwittingly aided in obtaining what he needed for his intended crime.

Years ago I was driving home from my then girlfriend's place at about 1 AM when a cop car flashed to pull me over. The lights looked legitimate but I couldn't see any markings on the vehicle. I didn't have a cellphone at the time as this was before they were really common.

It was a quiet stretch of road in the industrial end of the city, no one was around, and I happened to be right at two sets of train tracks. So I drove on for a moment looking for somewhere safe to pull over.

A ways up the road I saw an empty parking lot of a building with a street light so I pulled in there. I turned my car off but left the lights on.

After a longer than usual delay a police officer got out and came to my window and asked why I pulled in there so I explained. He then asked for my license and registration.

When I leaned over to get my registration out of my glovebox I noticed in the corner of my eye a second officer who had gotten out of the car and was standing perfectly in my car's blindspot, his hand was resting on the gun on his hip. I had no idea he was there.

Apparently I had scared them as much as they had scared me.

My right tail light was burned out, by the way.

Sorry to stray from the topic.

poorly worded article imo

RCMP has stated that the perp acted alone in carrying out the murders. They also stated that they are still investigating whether he had help acquiring the weapons, uniform etc.
I despise the post. and many non Canadian publications have had very poorly written and inaccurate articles in this case. I’m choosing to only believe what comes from RCMP or Canadian news agencies as fact. Jmo

Thanks. The s l o w way of talking at the presser was hard for this NYer to follow, lol.

Yah the scary thing about the perps in crimes like this are that they are completely void of emotion. That’s where the term cold and calculating comes from. They truly are not human. They are like robots
