I hope LE aren't putting all of their efforts into the boots. My husband has two pairs of Mark's Work Warehouse shoes/boots and I have a Wind River jacket. The car doors and trunk being open is truly bizarre.

That’s a good point. If the car was left there between 3:30 am - 4 am and reported to LE around 10 am someone else may have gone into the car.
IMHO, I think anyone finding this car so blood-stained would call LE. Even a minor criminal - dope smoker, etc. would want to do the right thing. Or, if a young person I also think they would tell someone.

To link Sonia with Shelley, here are the two towns:

The Town of Mono, a rural community in geography and character, is situated in the southeast corner of Dufferin County, just north of Caledon and northeast of Orangeville.

maybe didn't see the blood if he rummaged through in the dark of the night. I dunno if that lot had lighting, do you?

Someone I know in a nearby town said if they don't lock their cars at night in their driveways, perps will search them for cash.

Was the location where SV's vehicle was found lit at night?
According to calendar-365.com/calendar/2010/August.html - the sunrise would have been approximately:
≈ 6:25 AM EDT on Monday, August 30, 2010

"While there have been rumours throughout the community that the individual responsible for Ms. Varaschin’s death may have been responsible for other troubling incidents, notably the vicious attack on Shelley Loder in a local photo studio back in December of 2010, Det. Insp. Glassford stated there was no reason for police to believe Sonia’s murder was anything but an isolated incident.

“I’m not aware of any crime happening that is similar to this, or could be related to this,” he said. He went on to confirm his belief that Sonia’s killer knew the Orangeville-area well, and, likely, knew Sonia, too."

One detail i missed in reading through articles to highlight any other important events in SV’s life around the time of her murder was the Aug 30, 2010 WSIB hearing with her previous employer.

Quotes from article BBM

Murder probe takes a new direction

By Mississauga News
Sunday, May 22, 2011

“…there was a conflict between the hospital and the Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board over disability pay … after taking time off to heal a shoulder injury suffered on the job.”
“… a key meeting was called for Monday, Aug. 30 … to decide who was responsible for making that payment.”
“Southlake Regional Hospital has since paid up.”

Although this other article is more recent, it sounds like that hospital has considerable legal cases that reflect poor treatment of nurses.

Southlake has 'abysmal record of complying with the law:' ONA

Feb 8, 2020

The Newmarket hospital is in court to answer nine charges and possible fines of up to $13.5 million under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Hopefully LE looked into SV’s experience at that hospital beyond the issues with supervisor.

I was just thinking of this case. Was the boyfriend ever cleared? And do we know where he is now? What has he been doing since Sonia's murder?

  • #89
Does the boyfriend have family? I'm stuck on "look young and look close" from Audrey's case. Did the boyfriend - or any boyfriends - have young family members? And were they investigated? One of these crimes has to be solved. How can all three of these in Ontario not be solved?
