"The RCMP believe Derek Saretzky planned the murders of Hailey and her father. Police said Saretzky was an*acquaintance of Blanchette."

Unless this is wrong info, it doesn't sound like a robbery gone wrong

This is awful. I've been following this case because i live like 1.5 hours away and have a 2 year old daughter. I'm so thankful to the RSMC for quickly apprehended this monster.

"

In one of the clips, DS has a handful of cold, hard cash. Perhaps the motive was a debt that went unpaid?

We were wondering if the media hounded her into giving an interview, or if she wanted to give an interview. IMO, she wanted to give the interview and sought out the media.

There is an interesting comment on the Global Edmonton page, posted to the page (under "Visitor Posts") by JB on sept 17th. The Global Edmonton reply to him.

Sorry to be so vague, i'm just trying to follow the TOS.
Ahhh...thx....that made it much easier to find. Interesting how they say SHE came to them...yet at the start of interview she says she did not even want to come down there...So is she pretending? Is Global Edmonton fibbing? Did family members talk CD into doing interview? I can see if a child is still missing, holding an interview to plea for her return but not sure if I would want to talk to the press shortly after the news and the suspect is caught.

I took "I didnt want to come down here" more as, 'I didnt want to come down here and face the fact that my child and her father have been brutally murdered' - not that she didnt want to physically travel there or come to talk to the media.

A simple paternity test may answer all remaining questions in this case. The alleged animosity between father and perp versus the friendship between the mother and perp doesn't match well with the friendly terms between mother and father - traditionally, mutual friends only divide after hostile separations, so why the animosity? [Note: however, the money-fan photos open the possibility of drug-dealing rivalry, with one trumping the other]. Given that the friendship vanishes in the proximity of childbirth, and the father publicly distances himself from a bad crowd - and cleans up his own life - the father's statement on Facebook seems telling:

"I'm not the bad guy for not wanting my child around drugaddicted pedo files".

The perp was troubled and allegedly hung a bad crowd. Rumors circulate of a past romance between mother and perp. If there's any truth to these rumors, it might explain everything. That is, the perp may be the daughter's true father; drug addicted and unwittingly thought a pedo by the victim for loving his own daughter. Looking at the Facebook photos, an unrequited, [drug] demented fatherhood might be cause for unbridled jealousy. Even if he is not the real father, he may have reason to think so.

:greetings: Great first post! I agree, a paternity test would provide answers. It's hard to say, but if CD last saw him 3 years ago, it fits the timeline of HD age. There is a reason she moved to Edmonton and my gut feeling was she trying to get away from DS, but started a relationship with TB around the same time she was hanging out with DS. There has to be more, and this was planned, IMO.

Well... that blows most of the theories out of the water, doesn't it! In that case it wasn't a robbery gone wrong or a kidnapping gone wrong. Why would someone plan to kill a little girl and her father? If it was a simple grudge between the two, why kill the child? A paedophile might plot to snatch and kill a child, but usually wouldn't murder the parent as well. If D planned to kill the two of them, why remove Hailey from the house but leave her father?

Maybe the woman who was killed was linked, and this was a serial killer in the making?

Could it still be a kidnapping gone wrong, in the sense that DS's intent was to kidnap HDB and not kill TB but DS was still prepared to kill TB if he deemed necessary?? TB protecting HDB was the necessity in DS's mind....???....I think motive was crime of passion like users leeman and jmcgladr have described.

On paper it makes sense. But when I look at pictures of Sweet Hailey and her father, Terry, she looks so much like him it is hard to think he is not her bio dad. JMO

I think little Hailey has the same nose as DS.

I joined one of the "discussion" pages on FB about this case but today had to unfollow so I wouldn't see all the junk. There's some seriously mean people over there discussing this case. Blech, got no use for that garbage.

Frankly, I don't care if Peter Pan was Hailey's bio-dad. TERRY was her father. Would it be a *possible* motive for DS to do what he did, if he suspected he was actually Hailey's dad? I guess it's possible. I get frustrated speculating with so few facts to go on but I suppose it's *possible* the reason TB and DS didn't get along is because DS did think he was Hailey's dad and TB didn't want him around her. Its *possible* that ticked him off just enough to make that morbid "if I can't have her no one will" decision. All pure speculation of course, but it's curious that earlier article posted stated DS actually planned this. I'm going to guess that means the murder weapon was not found at the scene, so it's something he entered the house with and left the house with.

All MOO.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a daughter look more like her father. There's no paternity question in my mind. But, yes, DS may have suspected he was her dad, because he wanted that tie to CD. And yes, regardless, TB was her Daddy.

I hope this wraps up with DS making a full confession and CD being completely uninvolved. I don't think she is. I just hope whatever happens in the trial proves she wasn't.

I don't think she was involved. If DS planned to kill both Terry and Hailey beforehand, I think he was just a lone psychopath who wanted to kill people.

To be honest, unless more people are arrested, we likely won't know more until the trial. Police here in Canada keep information private. Note how little is still known about the Nathan O'Brien case

There are plenty of rumors in southern Alberta but they certainly can't be trusted

I know bikers can get a bad rap, but this is one of many stories I've seen lately of bikers doing kindhearted things. I just love the juxtaposition of the big, bad bikers doing sweet, loving things lol.

I'm a bit of a biker, over here in the UK bikers don't have such a bad reputation and are often supportive of many charitable causes, especially involving children. For example we have an Easter Egg hunt throughout Northumberland where each year bikers collect chocolate Easter eggs from pubs and bars on a "tour" and then take them to the local children's hospital wards.

Here is my theory, based on what we know so far and my own life experiences. CD and DS were "just good friends" around 3 years ago - CD truly believed that was all they were, and DS thought it was something more or wanted it to be more.

That is what I was thinking as well.. "You don't love/worship me like you're supposed to in my fantasy, therefore"... *insert homicidal planning*.
