Peel Regional Police Homicide Insp. George Koekkoek told The News Monday (Nov. 23) there has been “no change” in the case of Guo Wei Wu, 46, since he was charged back in January 2014.

“Wu remains in custody in China while the two governments work on the process of our providing disclosure in advance of the trial,” Koekkoek said. “No date has been set for trial.”

Six others were found guilty in Canada and handed sentences from 11 months to two years for their involvement in the deadly kidnapping,

Chinese national Ang Li was subsequently arrested in China and put on trial in Beijing. The RCMP only provided authorities there evidence after the Chinese government promised Li wouldn’t face a possible execution.

He was convicted in September 2012 of murdering Zhao and sentenced to life in prison.

The "mastermind" behind the kidnapping was arrested in China, but I can't find any information if he has been sentenced or not.
