Il y a cinq ans, le meurtre de Valérie Leblanc
Google Translate

"Valérie's father, Sylvain Leblanc, is certain that "some have not said everything" and adds that "people have been covered" in this story.
The bereaved father continues to hope. The media coverage of this tragedy, even five years after the fact, is a good thing, according to him. "As long as the world does not forget it."

The father plans to move on the grounds of cegep on Tuesday, on the occasion of the sad anniversary.
The father wonders how his daughter, black belt of taekwondo, could be killed in this way. "She was not beatable, she was not easy to put down, good at defending herself. In my opinion, there were at least five people. "
Mr. Leblanc says he has one regret today about a statement he made in 2012 on the first anniversary of his daughter's death. He had reported a secret that his daughter would have given him, one year before the death, that the young person would have predicted his death by saying that she would be "beaten and burned".
Five years later, Sylvain Leblanc is of the opinion that he "should not have said that", and that this statement had "caused problems". The father did not want to specify what types of problems it was."

Great news, but it doesn't say who they arrested. Hopefully they'll make that information public soon.

"Stéphane Rivard, 51, faces a charge of first-degree murder, Gatineau Police (SPVG) announced on Tuesday.
Gatineau Police Chief Simon Fournier said he hoped the announcement would "ease the pain" of Leblanc's relatives and "offer them some peace of mind."
Rivard, who was known to police, was arrested earlier on Tuesday and will appear before a judge on Wednesday, Chief Insp. Mathieu Guilbault said Tuesday at a news conference.
The suspect was identified with the use of "new investigative techniques," Guilbault said.''

Thanks, Dotr. It sounds rather like they used genetic genealogy or some other genetic testing investigation. Such a relief to the family and friends. From the description of her death, he was a brutal killer.

'Stéphane Rivard, who had no criminal history, will remain in custody for the time being. His case will return to the Gatineau courthouse on October 21.

Much better looking suspect sketch, imo.

Stéphane Rivard, 51, was impassive as he appeared via videolink in court in Gatineau, Que., on Wednesday to be charged with the first-degree murder of Valérie Leblanc in August 2011. (Lauren Foster-MacLeod/CBC)

''Rivard was already known to Gatineau Police for "non-criminal activities," Guilbault said, declining to say more or specify how long he had been a suspect.

But his arrest brings hopes of justice in a case that shook the community, Guilbault said.

"This homicide shocked the whole Gatineau region and honestly the whole province of Quebec."

Rivard is next due to appear in court Oct. 21.''
