Man's body found in wooded area near UBC - Vancouver Is Awesome
"Authorities are reporting the discovery of a man's body near the UBC campus.

University RCMP says they were notified that the body had been found on July 15 in a wooded area off SW Marine Drive, and Wesbrook Mall in the University Endowment Lands.

Police located the body of the deceased male, and the BC Coroners Service is working alongside the University RCMP to determine the cause and circumstances of death."

psst - this is my first time creating a thread so please flag if something needs to be changed!

Brooks Shane was last seen around a 2 hour walk away from that general area. He is 'not well' and needs daily medication (sounds like a mental health issue?).
Kevin Philips was last seen a little over a 2 hr walk away. He is known to keep to himself.
Luc Racicot is an older gentleman who was last seen elsewhere but reportedly made his way up to Vancouver in early August.
Some more unlikely possibilites include David Sullivan (last seen a 3hr walk away, but David has dementia, diabetes, and is overweight so while it is possible I'm not sure about such a long walk), and Vincent Che (highly doubt since he lived in North Vancouver and would have had to pass over a bridge/take the ferry along with a long walk).

Good job and thanks for starting this thread @bombardier! It's been a while he was there as investigators say the remains were decomposed. Here are a few more links to follow for updates.

“Police believe the general public is not at any risk given the decomposed nature of the remains,” said the University RCMP detachment. “The investigation is ongoing.”

He has been identified as Joshua Kirkeby; so sad but some beautiful words in the article by his mother.
'He's not just a body, he's a person': mother on man found dead near UBC last month
Tammy Klippel wants you to know that the body found in a wooded area near UBC last month belonged to her son.
She also wants you to know that because she wants you to think of Joshua Martin Kirkeby as a person, not a police incident.
"I hadn't personally talked to him for about a year and a half," she said. "I honestly thought he was sailing the seven seas, kind of thing."
Klippel told CTV News police informed her that they were familiar with her son. They had had interactions with him as recently as March, she said, but they hadn't heard from him since.
Klippel said she wonders if her son contracted COVID-19 or some other illness while camping, noting that police told her his body was found in a tent.
"The best I can guess, it was (a) 'the elements' type of thing," she said. "For him to die in a tent, you know, it had to be something extreme."
The cause of death will not be released until the investigation is concluded, the service said.

(MOO; i doubt the elements had a factor as a Vancouver summer is very mild. The 'found in a tent' aspect sort of reminds me of Mostly Harmless.)

:( Aww, how sad. I hope he spent his final moments happy and comfy in that tent. Rest peacefully, Joshua. My thoughts and prayers to his loved ones. @bombardier, ty for the update!

'No, he's not just a body, he's a person,'"

She said her son was kind, loved animals, and had a wandering spirit. He never had kids, and never seemed to stay in one place for long.

"He was always talking about travelling and he was always talking about getting a boat,

Klippel said her son achieved his goal. He purchased a boat shortly after arriving on the West Coast. Though she hadn't spoken to him in a while - they mostly communicated via Facebook messages - she thought he was living his dream.

"I hadn't personally talked to him for about a year and a half," she said. "I honestly thought he was sailing the seven seas, kind of thing."

Snip

She said her son was "very self-sufficient."

"He had his tent, he'd have his sleeping bag and stuff like that, so he could just kind of go when he wanted to," she said. "He worked on renovating houses. He could build decks, he could do plumbing, he could do electrical, and what he would do is he would put an ad in Kijiji, get work and then work for a week and then just go on with his travels."

Yes, this sounds like what I expect to hear about MH once he's identified. I believe like Joshua, MH was simply doing his own thing, enjoying life the way he made it for himself from 2017 onward. It's not often we hear of cases where the deceased is simply enjoying life in the moment of their death without some form of violence/danger involved with their demise. I hope that's the case for Joshua and MH.
