I think this is a really interesting idea. It can be very difficult to locate someone outdoors. Now that so much time has passed, it's probably even more difficult.

Especially given how little traffic that area seems to get by nature-enjoyers, I feel it's somewhat likely that there may be some clues just outside of town which were understandably missed, at the very least.
