Ohio Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins: Ashley Flynn's death was "targeted incident"

While no suspect has been identified, Adkins says that based on what they have learned so far, the community should not be fearful of someone being on the loose.

“It’s a targeted incident at that residence only,” says Ohio Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins, per WDTN.

“There’s no information available to us right now that is pointing us to believe that the public’s in any danger.

“I don’t think it was just, you know, a random act of violence that that occurred there.”

The chief calls the investigation complex with many moving parts and says there is no confirmed motive.

This poor woman was shot twice and according to the dispatch transcript it states in the head. We don’t know if both shots are in the head. This does sound like a targeted attack/ murder. To successfully aim and shoot your target, in their home, seems personal to me.

Good on the police department for understanding their manpower / limited capabilities with an event like this and calling their FBI partners.

I’m deeply bothered by the dispatch transcript.

Nice. Looks like they have a dedicated patrol K9 (not all PD have this asset). K9 Pasha was hopefully dispatched in the early hours and would be excellent on establishing a direction of travel of a fleeing suspect from the home. A hot track. We of course will never know the handlers notes on the behavior they observed from their dog, but it would be very interesting to know what any K9 used scented or not. IMO

Neighbors who live on Flynn’s Street said the lack of information makes them reluctant to go on camera and speak out.

“How can somebody get shot and you got a husband, two kids and two dogs and you don’t hear a ruckus or a commotion or anything. It just doesn’t make sense to me,” a neighbor said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim’s husband and two children, who were inside the residence. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers immediately secured the residence and surrounding area.

Family members were notified and responded to assist with the care of the children and the victim’s husband. The Miami County Victim Witness Program was also contacted and responded to the scene to provide support. A perimeter was established, and officers deployed police canines and an unmanned aerial system (drone) to search the surrounding area for potential suspects; no suspects were located during the search.

I'm wondering how long it took them to get there. Was there time for the alleged suspect to get away?

This is another one of those cases where we'll have to be creative with our wording IMO.

I'm curious as to which neighbor had cameras. Their lot backs up to a farm at the NE corner. There is also what appears to be a walking path thru the trees at the next culv-de-sac over that leads to the local high school, but not much else. The fog rolled in that night around 10pm or so. I live about 45 minutes south of there but I assume it was a similar time frame. Very dense fog. If the neighbor is south of the house, perp could have gone undetected in those conditions.

Sounds like they are leading up to an arrest of someone. Prayers to the family, just horrific.

I would wager that the perpetrator(s) know the family and/or are familiar with the house and didn’t just wander in off of the interstate looking for a good place for a home invasion. Hmmm…

Agreed! Perp may have been very, very well known to the victim.

About 15" of snow recently melted, leaving very saturated yards. I'm not sure if that helps or hurts detecting foot prints. Seems like the only way to leave would be on foot, thru the woods, to not be detected by any cameras.

I can’t tell from the 911 transcript posted if the kids were locked in their respective rooms and the husband was locked in a separate room? If the husband suspected there was an intruder in his house, why would he lock himself in a room alone and how would he inform his kids they needed to lock their doors in the middle of the night? Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to grab both of them and lock them all together if he suspected an intruder? Why would he leave them alone in their rooms, that just makes no sense to me.
