It's interesting that the charges were upgraded to murder, and I have to wonder if the accused talked himself into the charges upgrade by admitting that he had intentionally shot at vehicles travelling in front of him on the highway.

I'm also curious what intel lead to this arrest. Cellphone data? Dashcam footage?
Weyburn is a small town, with nothing but farmland for miles in each direction. I can't imagine that there would be too much traffic on that highway at 8pm.

There are 4 descriptive stories at this site. Also good videos of area.
I think dashcam info helped. Also not many vehicles on the road in that area. I do think it was hunting or target practice, possibly with beer involved......moo

Hopefully there are cameras at the grain terminals near range road 2151.

IMO this does not appear to be hunting, target practice or beer related. The statements from the RCMP have been rather cryptic but it appears that the man arrested in connection with the shooting was inside a vehicle, and I suspect that he was driving behind the two other vehicles involved, and took several shots at them.

The primary charge being upgraded from manslaughter to second degree murder is interesting, because it implies intent.
It doesn't necessarily imply that he intended to kill. But it certainly implies that he fired at the vehicles intentionally, and firing at a moving vehicle implies that he would know that people were inside and understand that those people might be shot as a result.
