Ex-hostage American Caitlan Coleman accuses Canadian husband Joshua Boyle of abuse, in court documents

Ex-hostage American Caitlan Coleman accuses Canadian husband Joshua Boyle of abuse, in court documents

In unsealed court documents, Coleman alleges she was physically and emotionally abused by Boyle while they were being held by the Taliban-linked Haqqani network.

“J.B. (Joshua Boyle) regularly threatened to kill me by setting me on fire,” Coleman says in an affidavit filed in June as part of a family court application to gain sole custody of the couple’s children
WHAT???? Omg! That's worse than I imagined. Poor Caitlan.

Ex-hostage American Caitlan Coleman accuses Canadian husband Joshua Boyle of abuse, in court documents Sept 4, 2018

He submitted in a 23 page affidavit alleging her of assaulting him, neglecting the children due to mental illness and that she had tried to push him in from of a subway car years before they were married(probably during the time she came to live with him in Toronto)

I am glad the Family court judge did not believe him, there was no evidence presented to support his allegations.

From early on, after reading her previous allegations against their captors, I began to think JB was the one abusing and raping her while in captivity and not the captures as she alleged.
Yeah, me too

I think the American press is more intrusive then the Canadian press, so probably.

With a 4th child on the way, she is going to need the help from her parents imo.
4th child?

I think that is the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. This are the things that came out in family court as she tried to gain temporary full custody.

I am so very happy for the children and for her that the Judge granted her temporary sole custody and allowed her to go back to the US with the children and that there is a restraining order against JB.

I will venture a guess and say we will hear worse things once the trial starts.

From the link...

They married during a trip through Central America in July 2011, but soon separated. Coleman began divorce proceedings in March 2012.

Snip

In her affidavit, Coleman insists that she reluctantly agreed to the trip only after Boyle promised not to go to Afghanistan. Boyle disclosed his true intentions after they landed in Central Asia, she says, “so that I would not back out.”

Snip

We crossed into Afghanistan for a short while in hopes that I could meet people who could give me a story I could write about,” he says in his affidavit. “I had hoped that personal experience in Afghanistan might help me to land more permanent journalism work.”

So true bears10, so much more to read in that article!
I have been searching to see if any other MSM has picked up the news but it seems the Ottawa Citizen is the one to report this after submitting an application with the court.

Not surprised. I hope she can remain free from him.

Wow those pictures of her when she was younger make me so sad, she looked like a well nourished, healthy, outdoorsy girl and now is extremely thin, pale and scared looking woman. I hope she can get healthier both physically and mentally now that she's free of him especially with a new baby coming soon.

Is she still in a burka? Not that it matters.

Not surprised at all. His "stories" of their captivity sounded like lies. (Aka -- His very own grandiose "delusions".)

Poor lady. He even threatened to burn her alive ; ffs.

What could she have possibly done to deserve that ? Oh, that's right. Nothing.

No but I would be interested to know the answer since she did not appear to wear one until her captivity.

I thought the whole time he was in on her torment.

Like how the Taliban was putting hormones in her food and that’s why she lost her baby? Or whatever the absurd narrative was.. I can’t remember off the top of my head.

SABBM

G_d knows what he might have done to her and/or the children.
I think a lot more will be forthcoming . Nothing he said made any sense ... and now we're getting a clearer picture.
I am sad she ever met him. :(

Me too. I feel sad for her. I think she was very insecure back then (and probably still is, idk). from what I recall reading, they met online on a Star Wars board or something similar... he strung her along for a bit... then married the woman with ties to bin Ladin.... and then once that marriage was over he went back to caitlan. I wish she didn’t entertain him at all the second time around. IMO to take back a man who ditched you to marry a woman with ties to terrorism screams insecurity to me. I can’t help but think she was a sheltered girl who saw JB as exciting and she became infatuated with him.

Those poor kids are the ones I feel the worst for by far. They didn’t ask to be brought into the world, and certainly not while in captivity in the Middle East. Sad. I just hope young kids are as resilient as they say.

As well he shouldn't.

I went to University with Josh, (University of Waterloo, BA, BSoc, '06), and there is no Liberal Studies degree. All that is is a more flexible BA program. You earn a BA (LibSt). He grew up in Breslau, in a Mennonite home, (not horse and buggy) in a normal suburban community where the kids all did normal kid things. He played hockey, baseball, rode bikes, all that stuff. At university, I had a social psych class with him. He had long hair and spoke with what I thought was a slightly "fake" pretentious kind of accent. He was pleasant, if not amusingly half-smug. He definitely did not like being debated by women, and had a hard time coming up with intelligent counter points to arguments. Liked to throw biblical "it's what I believe" to shut down a conversation. I wouldn't say he had a disdain for women per se, but I would say that he didn't like "losing" to a woman in argument, that is apparent.

Saw him on campus from time to time as well. Definitely unassuming and just another student, lugging books and drinking Tim Horton's coffee. I worked at the campus bar, and he went to music events, but I can't recall ever serving him drinks, but he did usually get something to eat from the Bomber kitchen.

Liberal Studies

Sorry that I am so late to see your post @MsRyber , I appreciate your personal insight.

It's difficult to imagine that there isn't something seriously wrong with this guy.
