They were released from captivity in October 0f 2017, so this crime occurred on Canadian soil. Lock him up.

What I wonder about is the Defense going with PTSD or some other mental health disorder due to the captivity to excuse his behaviour.

After JB was arrested CC stated

The many winding paths of Joshua Boyle Jan, 2018
His wife, Caitlan Coleman, 32, pointed to trauma from their captivity on his mental state as something of a trigger on the unproven charges and the court system has only just started to wade through the evidence.

Boyle wanted a more subservient spouse than Zaynab would accommodate, family friends said, and their relationship crumbled.
Their marriage ended 18 months later.

Boyle and Khadr applied for divorce on Dec. 9, 2010, according to court records. The uncontested divorce was granted March 18, 2011.

It is not known precisely how or when Boyle’s relationship with Coleman was rekindled, but the two married soon after Boyle’s divorce was finalized.

I am not defending him, He should be locked up,

But can he be found guilty on what she says only?
There are witnesses to his crimes, but they are children who are already severely traumatized by this SOB's actions of lying about his intention to enter Afghanistan. The severely impaired mental health of his children is evidence that he's an abuser. He should be imprisoned for child abuse too.

Imo, she demonstrated he abused her before he led them into Afghanistan. He's an abuser.

Caitlan Coleman presented court with a list of orders that Joshua Boyle had prepared for her. Among her jobs was to ensure the children ate breakfast, prayed and made their beds before 8 am. She also had to ensure Boyle ejaculated 14 times a week.

If she failed at any of her tasks, Coleman testified, she would be "chastised" with a spanking.

Also on the list, Coleman said, was Boyle's demand that she only take cold showers. He believed they made hair grow faster and that they promoted stamina and self control. He would get angry, she said, if there was steam in the bathroom.

Boyle also placed strict limits on what she could eat, Coleman said, since he wanted her to lose weight. The list had two columns, one with a date and one with a target weight she was expected to reach. Failure, she said, would result in "chastisement."

Also on the list, Coleman said, was Boyle's demand that she plan interesting sessions of sex twice a week.

Do you think they witnesses the sex acts?

What kind of upbringing would create a monster like this?

Coleman says she was hit with a broom handle, seven or eight times across the buttocks, for failing to live up to one of the Boyle's rules: bringing him to orgasm 14 times a week

Court is now reviewing a series of photos of injuries suffered by Coleman, including a bite mark on her left shoulder.

Thank goodness she has proof!

Joshua Boyle's estranged wife tells court about alleged sex assaults | CBC News

Joshua Boyle's estranged wife tells court about alleged sex assaults

She told court Boyle was very angry and told her she couldn't leave. He told her to go to the bedroom and get undressed.
"I was very scared of him, so I think I just sort of froze … was just doing what he was telling me to do," she said.

Once they were in the bedroom and she was undressed, "Josh told me to get on the bed, and he took ropes that he kept in a bag with other things and he started to tie my hands and legs."
The bag contained BDSM equipment that was "at times" used during sex between the couple, Coleman testified.

"My expectation after he finished based on past times that were similar was that he would untie me and we would be done for the night and go to bed. But he didn't untie me, so I asked him to untie me, but he said that he couldn't trust me, so he wasn't going to untie me," Coleman testified.

"I started crying, and I think I was pleading with him to untie me, and eventually he agreed, all right, if you lie there quietly for about 30 minutes, then I will."

Coleman testified she felt "very similar to how I felt in captivity, because the guards would often say similar things to me."

Coleman is describing how Boyle "was so focused on the fact that he felt like the world's eyes were on us." When they moved to Arlington, he was increasingly concerned that they needed to be quiet.

"Josh controlled everything that either of us said to the media. Whatever we would say in an interview, he was either actually scripting or sometimes he would give verbal or physical instructions as to what could be answered and what couldn’t," Coleman testifies.

Boyle always spoke in an angry tone, Coleman testified. "It became increasingly clear to me that he hated me to the point that he wanted me to die."

Coleman is now testifying about a list Boyle made her, a list of rules for him. List includes: - must start reversing breakfast and dinner - sleep nude - sir and madame (she testified he wanted her to know she was lowest in family, so to refer to children with honourifics)

- record calories - checklist for heavy exercise (burn 750 cals per day) - must take only cold showers - must plan interesting sex minimum twice a week - must comb out hair daily - (her addition, in her own handwriting:) backyard play with children daily

- she needed to please him to the point that he would ejaculate twice a day, every day, and that if she didn't, she would be chastized. "He explained that to me," she testified.

Here’s the list.

This man is a pig. But that's an insult to pigs. He is pure evil. How horrific to be held in captivity and have your husband be the worst abuser of them all. Then it continues after that. Then on top of it to be his sex slave 14 times a week or get a spanking and worse! This is one of the worst domestic violence cases I've ever heard of in terms of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse combined. And the children must have witnessed ALL of it. The dysfunctional sex, the beatings, the emotional abuse. The captors had all of their work done for them. I hope he rots in prison and gets a taste of his own medicine.

If the defense attorney goes too far in cross as he probably will, I hope women's groups start protesting or doing something...I don't know what, though! I hope the jury sees through it.

I think Boyle is an adherent of Christian Domestic Discipline.

His is an extreme version.

I went back to the media reports of the day we found out Family Law Court gave her temporary custody of the children and she had gone back to the US with them

I think this may give insight to what JB and his team may come up with during this trial.
I am looking at what is coming out, so far, in this trial and what was testified to in Family law court
Her affidavit and retelling of events vs JB's affidavit and retelling of events. Then her 2nd affidavit in response to his.

Ex-hostage American Caitlan Coleman accuses Canadian husband Joshua Boyle of abuse, in court documents

Here are some of JB's allegations
JB submitted a 23 page affidavit to Family court alleging
1) CC assaulted him,
2) that she was neglectful of the children due to untreated mental illness
3) That they both enjoyed BDSM
4) JB stated that CC knew he intended to go into Afghanistan to further his journalistic ambitions
5) JB said that he slapped CC during captivity because she attempted suicide by trying to overdose on medication they had stockpiled

CC defended herself against his allegations and the Family Law Judge received no evidence that CC suffered from mental health issue that could affect her suitability as a parent
“The court does have evidence, on the other hand, that C.C. is healthily and protectively parenting the children,” Engelking noted before concluding: “Based on all of the evidence before me, I can find little to suggest C.C. would not be a suitable temporary custodian of the children.”

I am pleased that Judge did not agree with JB's allegations and gave CC temporary custody of the children and the ability for her to leave with them back to the US and her family

Agree, with your post.

Also, I have read somewhere recently, that this is not a Jury trial but a Bench trial or trial by judge..I will go back and find where I read this.

UPDATE:Christie Blatchford: Neutrality of Crown witness questioned at start of Joshua Boyle trial

Trial by Judge. Ontario Court Judge Peter Doody
