Car Explosion - Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls

My question is if this crash explosion was caused by the speed at which the car was going, why would the driver speed up like that if there was no nefarious intent.

Many are stopped for a secondary search, including myself a long time ago. (on the way to ski in Vermont, with a married couple of friends one of whom was a Canadian citizen Cuban)

I'm pretty certain it is a terrorist attack. JMO.

Two dead in 'suspected terror blast' on bridge between US and Canada
An attempted terror attack on Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls today saw a car explode, causing a massive explosion at a toll checkpoint that killed the vehicle's two occupants.

Fox News cites law enforcement sources who say the intention was a larger attack to kill more an the FBI Terrorism Task Force is investigating but officials are yet to confirm the motive.

It remains unclear if anyone aside from those in the car were injured.

They refer to them as "terror suspects" and it as an "attempted terror attack". That makes it sound like there's not much guesswork. Nothing saying "alleged" or any type of language like that but it could just be how DM is reporting things. MOO.

".... sources said that it appears at this point to have been a deliberate act."
"A senior administration official describes the incident to CBS News as "more than a freak accident, but we don't yet have details.""

"Senior law enforcement officials said there was no indication that a bomb was inside, as an initial search did not find a secondary explosive or device."

That from Citizen Press on X
Other reports indicating vehicle was from US side and approached booth going opposed to one-way exit from inspection areas, at very high speed. Photos of damaged vehicle don't support that this was only a gasoline incident but it is possible the security barriers and the speed the car was travelling created the impact that broke the car into multiple pieces.

Canadian gov. now "highly confident" that the vehicle DID originate in the US.

IF so, and IF a terrorism incident, did they cross into CA from US earlier in order to secure materials before crossing back into the US??

The early reports by Fox news and Visegrad24 that it was a bomb in a car that originated on the Canadian side, and that it was preceded by terrorist threats has been refuted and verified journalists on Twitter/X have now retracted the reports.

Security on our side has been amped up. Additional police have been sent to Toronto’s international airport and some of the border crossings have been closed.

A witness on the CBC is saying he saw the vehicle speed, hit something and it became airborne. It then crashed and exploded.

Life trafficcams. The two closest to the incident are not available

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is not a terrorist attack and that it could be related to either cheating at the casino and/or a domestic situation where two people couldn't agree on how to deal with a criminal act.
I'd be 'ok' with that only b/c it might mean there isn't going to be more similar attacks planned !
