Car Explosion - Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls

Yeah, the witness description of the crash via the NYT (hitting concrete barrier, flying high up in the air, THEN exploding) makes me think this was someone engaging in illegal activity such as drug running or "making a run for the border" who got freaked out at being flagged for an inspection, hit the gas and try to "gun it" through the checkpoints. Very curious to hear more, but coupled with no evidence of explosives in the vehicle, this does not seem to match with terrorism or a planned explosion.

You get inspected on the Canadian side when you enter Canada- the other side of the bridge…

What a nightmare if you were stuck on the wrong side of the border. With all the local bridges closed you would have to drive almost 8 hours to get to another crossing and get home.

That doesn't look like terrorism or even particularly related to the checkpoints at all. That video is just wild.

The secondary inspection area is way to the right in your linked video. That is where the car apparently crashed into a pillar and exploded. Either not intending to hit the guard booths, or hit a curb and went in that direction - or maybe if a domestic incident the passenger pulled the steering wheel in that direction. imo

ETA: Flying car, which co-incidentally exploded at CBP on the day before Thanksgiving, 60 years to the day after the assassination of Pres JFK, creating fear of a terrorist attack, is actually a flying car.

This shows how fast and far bad reporting can travel and be accepted as the truth. It seems to have stemmed from Fox News who claimed there was a terrorist threat made before the incident and the car came from Canada and a bomb exploded on the bridge. None of that is true.

At this point, my hunch is high-speed DUI. Fortunately casinos are filled with cameras so there should be video showing the driver's actions at the casino before getting behind the wheel.

I admit I worried it was an attack when the news first came out, but now I'm thinking DUI (or medical incident??). idk

I was guilty, but I wasn't reading Fox News. I saw exploding vehicle at CBP and thought terrorist attack.
I had no idea that it was flying vehicle..LOL

Just crossed my mind....tomorrow is Thanksgiving.
Could there have been a plot to target this important US date? Tomorrow also is the Macy's parade, which thousands will attend.
just a thought....IF this was a potential terrorism situation.

I know it's become apparent this was not terrorism, but if someone *was* wanting to smuggle a bomb or any contraband from Canada into the US, an extremely busy travel day like today might seem like a good time to cross, when there are simply too many vehicles to blend in with and possibly avoid scrutiny. Even if whatever plan is not to cause trouble on a holiday but at some later date. MOO

From New York Rainbow Bridge Press Conference: No indication this was a terrorist attack. No continued threats to the area, but an investigation is ongoing.

One person who was working inside a booth at the crossing was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Two others are dead.
