I am so ticked!!!
Baez and Lion have done much of nothing but file appeals and make up stories and now that the real lawyer stuff needs to be done they say KC is out of money....Well Baez knew she had no money in the beginning so why did he take the case?

As a taxpayer here it just stinks! We all know how expenses goes. Look at Lion's $22,000 so far in just expenses...for what???

Don't anyone jump on me here....but I actually feel sorry for the poor baby killer...she has NO ONE....not even a preacher standing by her for her soul...no one...Her attorneys are dumb and certainly not getting rich at what they hoped would be a big newsworthy crime (NOT..anymore)...her parents are crazy...she hasn't a friend in the world....should someone help redeem her? Or does she just get lost in the Florida prison system? End this despicable travesty now....someone looking out for her soul should counsel her to confess...NOW...so she can start some sort of redemptive life, acknowledging what she has done..."confession is good for the soul." Maybe she can have some sort of purposeful behind bars...its been done before..

Just stick her in general pop. Problem solved.

Know what ticks me off as a Florida taxpayer? This should have been a cut-and-dried straightforward case. The whole thing could have been over and done with for way less than $22.5k - prosecution and defense. [just a guess]

Had Cindy and Nayancee [and the rest of the media] and Jose not made it such a case-celeb [pun intended] it would have been cheaper, easier, and quicker.

Just wondering if all those trips Baez to be on TV count as expenses and if the state will continue to allow them if they have to start paying the bill.

And they scoffed at paying the $900 for the psychic tips way back in the beginning...they never did pay or pick up the tips.

Nearly $112,000 in nearly two years and what exactly have they done to prepare for Casey's trial? They want the State of Florida (ME!!) to pay for depositions, transcripts, legal research, expert witness fees, medical and mental examinations, travel expenses and whatever else they need to represent Casey.

I knew this was going to happen, so I'm not that shocked. As a Floridian, I would like for JS to ask for a full account of how Jose spent all of that money that Casey paid to him.

Depositions... I understand that they cost money but surely, Jose doesn't fall in the $250.00-$400.00 dollar an hour attorney. Andrea is working pro bono, so she would not have had to be paid for any depositions. I guess the stenographer can cost up to $100.00 dollars an hour and I just read that someone needed to be there as a notary? Don't know how much that costs?

Transcripts... Okay, I've been able to get all the transcripts for free? What does he need, printing paper and ink?

Legal research... How much does it cost to sit in the library and research? I'm thinking about the movie "Philadelphia" with Washington and Hanks. They had no problem sitting in a nice quiet library and research their case. I know it's a movie, but it can't be that hard. I know he's been busy jet setting to all his media appearances but that isn't an excuse.

Expert Witness fees... Okay, I thought they had Henry Lee working pro bono? I'm just going to skip this one because I can't even begin to think of the witness experts they'll need... someone please help with this?

Medical and Mental evaluations... I thought JS ordered a mental evaluation when Casey was first arrested? Are they going to find someone who can claim ugly coping? Hmmm?

Travel expenses... Okay, this I don't like. I don't understand why I have to pay for them to fly back and forth when she could easily get Florida attorneys. I don't have a problem with Andrea because she said she is working pro bono and IMO if she is working pro bono, that means pro bono. FREE!!

As with everyone else, I am disgusted that Caylee is the only one that has paid the price (physically and financially) and she is the victim. We all knew Casey sold Caylee's photo's and videos but, it doesn't make it sting any less to have it officially confirmed.

Well, the only good thing that could come out of this is that the defense, spending the State's money, will be under close watch and hopefully get the ball rolling.

You are right Lola, I guess we will have to pay for all her out of state experts to fly first class to FL now and wine and dine them!! GRRRR!!!!!

That same exact thing crossed my mind tonight..I wonder....

I have a question, Can JS refuse and not grant Casey as indigent?

  • #111
Someone had stated earlier that they beleive this is a set up for a plea and that the state may agree to it because of costs.

I for one hope that does not happen, with all the emotions invested in this case and all the arguments about Casey being innocent by her parents and others, I want this to go to court. I want this to play out, I want all the evidence laid out, I want to hear the defense prove that she is not guilty, and I want a jury of 12 of her peers to decide whether she is guilty or not once and for all, that way we never have to hear that Casey just pleaded guilty because she had to, or because she couldn't pay to defend herself, or anything else. I want Caylee to have her day in court, and I want everything that Caylee went through put out there right in front of the Anthony's so that they will know what all of us already know.

She's not 1st chair, is she? [IDK, real question]

They aren't going to be getting more "dream team" professionals on board, I don't think. Whoever defends her will probably have no choice but to argue some kooky, ridiculous defense. Who wants to argue one of those in front of an international audience? The experts' reputations and credibility could be destroyed if they do some presto-magic-o manipulation (spin) of the evidence.

Sounds like it's a sinking ship and the rats are scrambling onto the flotsam.

btw - in case you can't tell, Poster LFlorida is not an attorney. The hiring of an attorney is a serious decision, yadayadayada.
Yup, she is. JB isn't DP qualified.

I'm speechless once again.

I guess LP can always donate funds.

From the link:..............Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

Anthony has already paid Baez and death penalty expert Andrea Lyon $111,954, but Baez said that is not enough to give Anthony the defense she needs, and taxpayers should make up the difference.

Baez said Anthony, 23, was willing to pay for her defense until the state put the death penalty back on the table, making her unable to cover the expense........

The Anthony's have paid over $100,000 to Baez already?
Guess that explains the defaulted mortgage hey? ;)

..baez HAS been paid well over 100,000.00 to date------WHO paid him ? we don't know.
..the anthony's mortgage would not factor in-------as kc is an ADULT...even living @ home, they have no obligation to pay her bills, or her lawyer(s).

..as adnoid said , re: the scott peterson case-------scott also ran out of money, became indigent------the state then picked up the tab for his lawyer(s). ( & let's hope what worked for scott works for kc:))

..but---------once indigent, the lawyers fees are "capped"----they are given a pittance compared to their normal fees-----and-------since they've been with the defendant since the beginning-----in this case, kc, they remain as her attorneys ( now working for the fame and glory-----and future recognition-) ( who DOESN'T know the name geragos ???)

..for that matter------who already doesn't know the name jose baez ??? andrea lyon ??? ( they've been "paid" already ).

..kc's a definite done deal no matter what--( the up side !)

..perhaps a lawyer here will weigh in on the absolute to what kc "going all indigent" means for certain..

If this is so, looks like GA LIED when he said he wouldn't lose "Caylee's" house. Let's see... that would mean KC FIRST, Caylee last! UGH!

JMO

JMO GA doesn't have much say in what goes on around him.

..replying to my own post but:

..additionally------( and i know adnoid will have the actual numbers) ..i believe it cost ( the taxpayers) 4 MILLION plus to prosecute scott peterson------making dam* sure he IS where he IS..

..the SA of florida will make sure kc is waving across the country to SP, DP block to DP block, and that's what counts.

..indigent or not, taxpayers will be paying.

..of course george has a say--------as long as it's what cindy TOLD him to say....

If my calculations are correct, Baez still has a healthy balance remaining from the 225,000.00 that he received on KC's behalf for the videos of Caylee. He should have to prove that none of that is left before the state begins to pick up the tab...

In addition, if the state is paying the bill, they should at least insist the the lawyers be from the area...or the state at the least. The Florida tax payers should not have to pay for another state's resident lawyer. In other words, all funds expended should benefit Floridians first.

JMHO

You are very kind to be concerned for her immortal soul, but I do not see those things happening in a person who has never developed a conscience.

Okay, Florida resisdent here, sounding in on this issue.

She has the right to her own defense. Does it stink that "we" will have to pay to defend her? Sure it does, but we pay for defendants all the time, some who have committed crimes at least as bad as the one that KC is charged with, and some even worse. She has no less rights than any of them.

However, she has the right to a public defender. I don't think the state ("we") should have to pay for JB & AL. If we do, though, then we should be able to keep them on task & on budget. For example, when JB demands documents, then fails for weeks to go pick them up, we have the right to strongly "encourage" him to do his job. I think we should also have the right to fire him.

DISCLAIMER: Obviously, nothing I've said has legal or factual basis! It's only my opinions.
