Casey's Pants & the Knife and The Cleaning of the Pontiac

  • #421
IIRC, there were paper towels in the trash bags and forensic testing showed they contained adipocere (grave wax). That would make Casey the one who tried to clean the stain.

Yes, I know. In Cindy's state depo, she says that when George opened the trunk, he said flies and bugs flew out and I think the tow guy concurred. Cindy said she didn't see any insects in the trunk. That leads me to believe that George may have found a roll of paper towels in the trunk and did a quick clean-up of some sort, then the bag got tossed over at the tow yard dumpster. Thankfully he may have inadvertently preserved some of the strongest evidence to convict ICA beyond a reasonable doubt.

Ok at 7:20 nancy says at the back of the 7 page sworn search warrant is a statement that "Cindy got to the car first before police and found the pin striped grey slacks that belong to mom Casey, last seen wearing them the last day Caylee was last seen alive. They smelled like a dead body. Mom, Casey's pants, smelled like a dead body. Unwittingly, Cindy Anthony washes the pants.".

If you freeze frame at 9:12 you can see the written report.

That is not exactly what the search warrant statement says. I mean that is not a true quote.

But page 7 does say that Cindy washed the pants prior to calling LE because they smelled like the car and then put them away in KC's room. I don't think Cindy washing the pants has ever been in question.

I have always thought that if CA was truly in full cover up mode at this time, she would not have bothered to mention the pants. but she did tell LE about them on 8/4/08.

I don't think we have to worry about C&G's clothes stinking. We have their words both written and orally recorded about how that car stunk. There's no denying it and I can't wait to see how JB will try to persuade the jury into believing there was no body in that car. After they see and hear about the entomology report, I think they will know where Caylee was before she was dumped in the swamp.

GA, with his head hanging out the window like my dog's (I am picturing GA's tongue hanging out and him fervently sniffing the outside air!), while he was driving the car home, in the rain!

Nuff said, that sucker stank!

Oh Ok, thanks for the link, because what I put in quotes there was what Nancy Grace was saying, not what the warrant read. Thanks, I should have been more clear about what i was quoting.

I know there is some interview, statement, depo or something wherein Cindy talks about wiping off mama doll and placing fabric softener sheets in the car. I don't remember that she specifically said she scrubbed or cleaned anything. But we know she had done some tidying up when she unloaded several items from the car and put them on the washer/dryer and in those collapsable baskets. If she had a rag handy to clean mama doll up it seems logical to me that she was probably cleaning up a few other things, too. Also, I can't imagine that as tidy as Cindy is, that she would just drop a fabric softener sheet in the trunk right over a big messy stain without trying to clean it first. And IIRC there was a fabric softener sheet found in the trunk and other places inside the car, too (I think ?). I will be trying to find the source ~ but does anyone else remember this?

You were clear! I totally understood that from your post, it was I that wasn't clear- not you.
What I meant was what NG said was a quote from the search warrant wasn't truly a quote.
Sorry about that.

Yes, I definitely remember this. I believe she said it was one of those wet wipes that she cleaned the doll with. It may have been in her deposition, not sure... but I remember this for sure.

I am in the very tiny minority that does not believe the trunk carpet was cleaned or steam cleaned (aside from the washing of the pants, wiping of the doll's face, spraying of Febreeze, removing collapsible bin/knife admitted to by Cindy).

The paper towels had grave wax but there was no grave wax found on the trunk carpet or liner. Conversely, there was butyric acid on the trunk liner and none found on the paper towels. There were also no trunk fibers found on the paper towels.

Chloroform was the only chemical found on the trunk liner. No cleaning chemicals were found on the trunk liner and no decomp fluid or hair with decomposition were found on any of the vacuums or wet vacs in the Anthony home. Moreover, dirt was found on the trunk carpet. I believe the dirt was left there when Casey borrowed the shovel and tried to bury Caylee in the back yard but failed. An indentation was found in the dirt by the pool where someone had tried to dig. When she changed her mind about burial in the backyard the dirt was transferred to the trunk and remained there till processed by LE.

Yuri mentions the dirt in the bond hearing.

The dirt is also listed in the discovery:

IMO There is no evidence that the trunk was cleaned aside from what Cindy admitted to.

Is there something wrong with this video or my computer? Or is the video purposefully distorted?

I don't know one way or the other. 224 days 18 hrs 29 mins til trial :eye:

Whether CA scrubbed the car, or only removed a few things and washed the pants and knive, the car should NEVER have been touched. It should have NEVER been driven home. As soon as GA smelled the smell that he recognized from his LE days, he should have called 911. This wasn't a vehicle that was towed because they left it on the side of the road after a breakdown. This was a vehicle that their daughter and granddaughter, whom they had not seen or heard from in a month, were supposed to be using. This vehicle smelled like "there's been a dead body in the damn car!" and should not have been touched. Even if the only proof of a cleaning is that CA admits removing the pants and washing them and washing the knife, I believe the jurors are going to recognize that that in itself would seem odd for the Ex-LEO dad/gpa and the Nurse mom/gma to have done, especially when they hear CA's MS posting entitled "My Caylee Is Missing". Also, since this is the Casey's Pants & the Knife thread- here is said knife. I do not have a copy with the close up of the fiber on the serrated blade off hand. (the fiber did not match duct tape)

The fiber probably matched Cindy's dishcloth. :D

Respectfully bolded by me. Of course, I agree :twocents:

I concur that the car should not have been touched and should have been preserved at the first moment anyone became aware of the decomp odor. that applies to GA,CA and LE.
It will always be odd to me that LE did not recognize the significance of a car smelling like decomp when they are looking for a missing child and the mother's story does not add up. All of which came to light simultaneously.
the car has been an enigma all the way around.

:toast: Yes, I believe we are on the same page with this one! Lol! IMO, whether the trunk was scrubbed or lightly dusted or simply straightened up a bit is a sort of red herring. The real meat and potatoes is in their admission of what the car smelled like and their subsequent actions. IMO, no REASONABLE person would do what they did.
