^^If my granddaughter was missing and there was a chance my daughter killed her, I absolutely could picture myself not wanting to believe it and my mind allowing me to live in denial as long as possible. The alternative would be waaaay too much to bear. It's like if you have a loved one in the military and 2 uniformed service men show up at your door. Many first reactions are to close the door so you don't have to accept what they'll say. I don't think she maliciously washed those clothes. I know soooo many women who try to control their messed up situations by being OCD about cleaning etc. It's a way of asserting control over the little things you can control. While I think she knew what she smelled, I think she was looking for every reason not to believe it. Do you remember this quote "It's the pizza, right George?" To me that sounds like "please tell me it's something else as I can't bear the alternative. You ask "at what point does enabling stop", but at that point she was enabling her own survival rather than complete nervous breakdown more than anything else. We just look at it differently. No biggie.
Secret Squirrel, I agree with the bulk of your posts, even though I do also agree with other posters that the Anthony's actions have not been admirable. Bottom line, though, what they have said as a whole to LE has incriminated casey more than it has hindered the investigation. Especially GA with his GJ testimony. He knew the score early on and was pretty darn candid with LE. He was just desparate not to believe his gut and the evidence and so went along with CA's fervent denial in public. Their actions are understandable to me, but not reasonable nor admirable. Nevertheless, I will continue feeling sorry for their loss.
I just don't see these people as evil. I don't see them as people who in response to their daughter killing their grandchild not only did everything they could to cover that fact up, but also gaily profitted from her death
with no sadness for the loss of Caylee. Again, they did alot to harm casey and point the finger at her in official calls and statements to LE. It was their media statements that sucked.
Further, I see nothing pointing to them simply going on with life while living off their Find Caylee Fund. I see people who are in the depths of despair since the final announcement who are now having to deal with the truth (although I do agree wholeheartedly with Whisperer that an enmeshed CA will go from Caylee is alive to casey is innocent).
I have not studied this fund, but from the little I have seen of accounting reports, it does not appear to have made much. Can someone enlighten me?
Also, I can guess that the reason the request for donations is still up is because they are not in any shape to do much on the internet yet.
I predict that there will never be any charges brought against anyone in the Anthony family other than casey for anything related to this case. Could be wrong, but that's my feeling at present. That could change if it comes out that they definitely knew where Caylee lay and tried to cover that up, while leaving her to rot. So far, I do not see that.
As far as not using money to search, how could they when they knew subconciously that Caylee was dead? They did finally go chase one "lead" but for the most part it seems that money was used for T-shirts, posters, billboards and other such stuff. I'm open to change my opinion on that if someone is willing to point me in the right direction with some hard facts. Perhaps a PM?
