Correct me if I'm wrong, but IF you have one of these services listed above, you won't appear in the white pages, correct?

I have Vonage & my phone number is listed in the white pages -- at least in the printed book. Actually, it must be on-line too 'cause too many bill collectors call here looking for anyone with my first initial & same last name.

What phone was working? Everything we have been given says they did NOT have a working phone with exception of the work phone that JI had on him that night.
ALL of the different providers require SERVICE. Skype required service, Vonage requires service, Magic Jack requires service.......

My house is listed as having a landline too. I only have cell service now. It's cheaper to have it that way. We weren't even using the landline so we are now saving $50/mo without one. Most people I know now have done the same thing. Almost all under 30 have cell only anymore. He might have USED to have a landline, but probably got rid of it.

It's always good to have a landline with babies in the house. It doesn't cost much if you have local service. Cell phones die quickly. landlines are dependable. I guess JI is just a different kind of person. As an electrician and dependent on the phone for business, it just makes sense to have a land line.

I understood the grandpa's phone was working when he gave it to her. That would make sense. Why would he give her a cheap phone that didn't have service. I bet she complained about her bill and gramps took care of her. What gramps wouldn't with a baby in the house. I would give my cell too, if needed.. a working one.

Yep, and Jeremy's was listed too.

Just to throw something else into this mess that I have wondered about a few times. We do know that SB had a working cell phone. I've always wondered why JI didn't call her phone to let DB know when he would be home. Who knows, maybe he did? :waitasec:

I would assume LE has her cell records as well, right?

I've been thinking that all along, Ham. I pictured <modsnip> debbie calling him though...using sam's phone if she didn't have one. Somehow I think she had one. I can't even picture db w/o a phone in her hand.

Maybe Skype has changed but I never paid for it. The only time you need service is when you are calling a landline. It used to be nominal for that, like two bucks a month. I haven't used it for awhile, so things may have changed.

I thought he gave her a working phone with no service but the speaker worked and hers was broken. I also thought she hadn't transferred service over to the phone yet but was in the process of putting numbers from one phone to the other.

I have never seen a photo of Debbie with a phone in her hand, even. Why do you think she is a person who can't be without her phone?

We don't have one and I can't think of anyone we know who does. I think that's just older peeps who grew up with them in the house that still hang on to that type. With cell phones and wi-fi what would be the reason to have one? I text 80-90% of the time instead of calling. In an emergency you can text/e-mail, besides there was a working computer in the house right?

You are not alone - that was my understanding as well.

I have a land line since it's in my cable bundle, but it's useless. If the cable or the power goes out my phone is gone too. I don't even know the number LOL.

And, isn't calling her "Chatty Debbie" considered name-calling?

No more so than any number of things I have read her called on this victim friendly forum. Its why I lurk and don't post on Lisa's threads much anymore.

You can't always rely on your cell in rural areas. I know many people, not all over 30 fuddy-duddies, who have landlines because there is no service in the area for cellphones. Wi-fi? That's a real joke.

That may be, but JI and DB did not live in a rural area. My cellphone and Wifi are very reliable.

My family has a cabin in a rural area and the opposite is true. Great cell phone reception, too remote for a landline.

Pardon me, I thought someone was just making a broad generalization.

We live in a very rural area with deer, elk and mountain lions all around. We use cell phones, wi-fi and satellite.

That would be true if their Verizon phones used sim cards, but they don't. Verizon uses CDMA technology, which does not use a sim card. The service would have had to have been transferred by Verizon (that can be done over the phone or taking it into a store). With CDMA it's not as simple as just moving the sim card back and forth.

I don't think Verizon would have switched the service over or done anything for them on Sunday or Monday. I don't think their account all of a sudden went delinquent on Monday afternoon and was disconnected immediately. They were way over due - very doubtful their provider would have said 'oh sure Ms. Bradley, we'll do that for you'.... more like 'Yeah sure, as soon as your account is brought up to date'.

I think her dad was mistaken or confused when he posted that info. MOO

Neither my older son, or my sister are fuddies. They both live in very prestigious neighbors; however they don't have the towers they need there yet. AND, why is not just having a cell phone a fuddie duddie thing? OH P.L.E.A.S.E. !!

You do realize the op didn't say fuddie duddie nor did she make an offensive post. She said the people she knows...........
