Cell Phones and LISK

  • #101
The NYPD and the FBI may have worked together on MB case. A missing girl + calls made to her family might have been enough to get the Feds involved.
Melissas case is why I believe LE has heard the voice of the killer. So the more tips the better. Hawk, are the phone calls enough to charge someone with murder? Or would the answer vary from DA to DA? Im sure the contents of the call would have to play a factor.

LE made an effort to catch MB's killer when he called Amanda from different locations in Manhattan. I hope their efforts INCLUDED obtaining video footage from the bridges that take you from the Bx. to Queens. LE should know how MB traveled to LI. Her phone would have pinged off of the towers. Including the time each ping hit one. The same thing applies to MBB. I hope the NYPD did not drop the ball.

BBM... Did they drop the ball or were they unable to use their "Stingrays"?!

Someone on the Missy Bevers murder case thread just linked the following news report, and I thought I'd share it here.

Police sources have told CBS11 they are relying heavily on the New York Police Department, and its high-tech tracking devices, to help them solve the murder of a popular fitness instructor.

Experts with the NYPD were brought in to help analyze the “pings” from cell towers, in hopes of finding the “electronic footprint” of Missy Bevers’ killer in the early hours of April 18.

They said no one is better at doing that than the NYPD, which has reportedly located more than 1,000 criminals, including rapists and murderers, since 2008, using sophisticated tracking devices known as “Stingrays.”

The device, according to a New York Post article earlier this year, gathers telephone numbers from neighborhoods by mimicking a cell tower, allowing it to identify unique subscriber numbers.

Oops re: my post above! On second thought... they did trace some calls to pay phones (Time Square). I can't remember how they found the phones registered to "Mickey Mouse" though.

Payphones? I've never ever heard payphone where you used in the Lisk case. Are you sure about this? It was always burner phones pinged from MSG/Times square, never payphone that I heard of

Just reading back on some of the comments here. I don't know if you're from NY or familiar with it but even with video of the bridges, it would still be a needle in a haystack! Over 100,000 per DAY use those bridges! That's not all inclusive either. That's 100k per bridge, per day. Unless they could pinpoint the exact time, it would take them forever to find her. There are also several ways to get from the Bronx to Long Island. She could've taken a train or taxi into the city and used the LIRR which stops in Massapequa or she could've driven there. Wonder if they know which form of transportation she used. Does anyone know?

MB was last seen sitting on her curb. She turned down a ride from Blaze (if she accepted the ride, she would have had to hand over her earnings I'm sure). Did she get picked up by the killer? Did she take a taxi to the LIRR and ride it to Massapequa? If there was a way to check phone pings along a route, it seems like they would be able to determine whether she rode the train or in a car. But I don't know fi they have technology

Here's what I don't get. As far as surveillance video, why isn't there any footage from the Holidah Express that Megan Waterman went missing from?

There could be but she supposedly left the hotel on foot. Read through the Megan thread fully of a look at the backroad she might have walked down

No. I have no idea why I stated "pay phones". I'm not even sure they exist anymore. So, y'all just erase this "pay phone" statement right out of your memory... thanks :)

This article mentions it but I can't figure out what it means. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...island-serial-killer-victims-secret-life.html

The police traced the calls to cellular towers in Times Square and Madison Square Garden, but got nowhere. Lynn said they received five more calls, the last one on August 26, 2009. "The last call, he said he killed her," then hung up. Investigators also discovered that a call made to Barthelemy's voicemail the day she vanished came from Massapequa, a Long Island town about 20 miles from where her body was later discovered.

Detectives and family members combed through her phone records. Lynn discovered that a few calls were made to the escort service James Bond Entertainment. Lynn's fiancé Jeff called the number and spoke to a man who told him that Barthelemy had worked with him on a number of occasions. "He was prickly, like Jeff was bothering him," said Lynn.

A few of the numbers belonged to her regular clients, one of whom was a married man who told police that Barthelemy didn't show up for their scheduled date at a motel in Jersey City.

"He was more worried about his wife finding out than being a suspect in a serial killer case," said the Long Island law-enforcement source. "Her clients were regular Joes. She wasn't working for Heidi Fleiss."

Other numbers were traced to throwaway phones purchased in Manhattan. One of the phones was linked to the name Mickey Mouse.

Around the same time, Terry said he began to get his own taunting phone calls. His calls were from a "white guy," he said.

After re-reading the above DB link, it appears to me that Mickey Mouse was on Melissa's phone log and was one among other throwaway phones.

Speaking of J Terry, I found this document online... wondering if this Johnny Terry is "Blaze" or just someone with same name. This appears to have occurred in 2013 (so not related to MB's disappearance) but I'm just curious if Terry has a police record.

... The criminal complaint in Terry — which was sworn to by DEA Task Force Officer John Salvitti — alleges that a DEA confidential informant told a DEA agent that he knew an individual named Johnny Terry who had previously engaged in robberies and home invasions. United States v. Terry et al., No. 13 Cr. 87 (CM)... "

Interesting Fred. It does mention the Bronx. No doubt there are a number of John Terrys in NY. But it is possible n does open an interesting new angle to Melissa's case if that is the John Terry. It's too bad there is no mention of "Blaze" in the file. But what is US v. Terry?

"Johnny Terry was arrested at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and 69th Place for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle by Officer Bianchini.

This case was from 2013. Pretty interesting that the DEA sent a CI to set up Terry, and the FBI built a case against Vybe but no breaks in the LISK case.

Fred can you access the US v Terry case? Might have some interesting info pertaining to our elusive Blaze

They have the technology. LE knows how she got from the Bx to LI.

The camera showed Megan leaving the hotel at 1:30 am.
