Open-source investigators study video for signs of the shooter​

As the police continue to search for the person who shot Charlie Kirk, online sleuths are studying video taken just before and after the shooting for clues as to the person location and identity.

Law enforcement officials told CNN that they have not yet identified a suspect.

Blake Spendley, a former researcher for the Center for Naval Analyses, who now conducts open-source intelligence (Osint) investigations for Hunterbrook Media, posted one video clip on his popular @OSINTTechnicalX account showing what appeared to be a figure on the roof of a building on campus before the shooting.

The second aerial picture....curious why he chose that roof, with others much closer to his target.
Better escape route? His choice being more students in the building so as not to stand out, able to blend in? Better access to the roof? IF a student, his locker in that building?

We're waiting for a news conference by investigators in Utah in the coming moments.

It's not yet clear which law enforcement agencies will be addressing journalists.

The FBI is assisting the investigation.

The University of Utah said the shooter fired from the Losee Center --

I wonder where exactly the shooter was when the shot was fired -- on the roof? It doesn't appear the Losee Center has roof access -- the shooter would probably need to use a ladder unless the windows are able to open. It does look like the building is set on a grade -- the part of the building closest to the area where the event was happening appears to be 3 stories, while the side of the building furthest from the area where the event was happening (closest to the parking lot) appears to be only one story.

Yet he's under a tent-type affair with a fluttering cloth edge hanging around it. So, how low would the shooter need to be to be able to aim at him? (Taking into consideration that the neck area may not have been the intended target of the bullet.)

Well this is awkward. The Utah Department of Public Safety is giving a press conference, but clearly isn't aware that the suspect is in custody.

And now the FBI agent giving the presser isn't aware he's ben captured either.

A news conference underway right now is inconsistent with this. Investigators in Utah said one person is in custody for obstruction, but the shooter is not in custody. They say they have a person of interest.

The briefing has started and Utah Department of Public Safety Beau Mason is the first to speak.

He says Charlie Kirk was shot and taken by a private vehicle to hospital, where he died.

One suspect detained earlier, then released
​

Mason says that shortly after the shooting, authorities had a suspect in custody, but that person was then was released.

That person was booked for obstruction of justice.

Authorities are still conducting an active investigation for a person of interest, Mason says.

As a reminder, FBI Director Kash Patel has just posted on social media that a "subject" in the shooting has been taken into custody. It's not clear whether this person is the person of interest referenced by Mason.
